On 2/29/2016, at 0702 hours, the BATTLE (Beat Auto Theft through Law Enforcement) South Task Force, which has members from the CSPD Auto Theft Unit and CSP Investigators, located a stolen motor vehicle in the parking lot of a Hotel in the 1800 block of Aeroplaza Dr. This vehicle was placed under surveillance.

On 3/1/2016 at 1523 hours, the stolen vehicle began to move and the BATTLE South Task Force conducted a rolling surveillance operation in the City of Colorado Springs. During the surveillance operation, the suspect parked the stolen vehicle that he had been driving and started to drive another vehicle which came back as stolen. The suspect switched vehicles several times and finally parked the first stolen vehicle in the 4700 block of Wineskin Circle. With the assistance of K-9 Officer Browne and his dog Blitz, the BATTLE South Task Force made contacted with two parties in the 2000 block of Farrington Street. The male who was observed driving both stolen vehicles was identified as Diego Perez (18YOA) and the other party was identified as Celeste Gradeless (22 YOA). Both were in possession of suspected illegal narcotics and Ms. Gradeless was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant.

Mr. Perez and Ms. Gradeless were arrested for Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both were transported to the Criminal Justice Center.

On 2/29/2016, at 0807 hours, the BATTLE (Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement) South task force, which has members from the CSPD Auto Theft Unit and CSP Investigators, located a stolen motor vehicle in the parking lot of the South Pointe Apartment Complex, 3845 Lakehurst Dr. This vehicle was placed under surveillance.

The Task Force conducted a rolling surveillance operation until the stolen vehicle returned to the South Pointe Apartment complex. With the assistance of K-9 Officer Kelly, his dog Broc and Officer Joe Richardson, the driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody.

The driver was identified as Vincente Fernandez (29 YOA) and he was wanted on a Parole Violation and a felony Domestic Violence Arrest Warrant. He was also featured as one of the Pikes Peak most wanted fugitives on February 15th, 2016.

Along with his warrants, he was arrested for Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft and transported to the Criminal Justice Center.

On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at approximately 2141 hours, Falcon officers responded to a call for service regarding a robbery at a business in the 800 block of Fillmore St. The suspects left on foot prior to officer arrival. Officers were dispatched to the scene and checked the area, but did not locate the suspects. The suspects were described as a Hispanic male, medium build, wearing a grey hoodie, blue pants and white shoes. Suspect two was described as a White male; thin build wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and a red bandana. Suspect three was described as a White male; thin build wearing a dark colored jacket, blue jeans and a black stocking cap. No weapons were mentioned or seen.

On February 28, 2016 at approximately 5:45 AM, Officer Eckert and Officer Barden contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 3800 block of Van Teylingen Drive, a defined DDACTS area. Officers contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle, Damon McDuffie. McDuffie had an outstanding felony warrant for burglary, assault, menacing, child abuse, harassment, and reckless endangerment. In addition to the warrant, McDuffie had a firearm in his waistband and a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, and prescription pills on his person. McDuffie was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers learned during an investigation that the resident, Thomas Chmielewski, was in the process of extracting marijuana concentrate utilizing butane when a significant explosion and subsequent fire occurred in the kitchen of the residence. Mr. Chmielewski was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
