On 4-1-2016 at 0655hrs Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Conway made a traffic stop on a Black 1998 Ford Explorer on South bound I25 near mile marker 149. Trooper Conway approached the vehicle from the passenger side and saw a pink and black 9mm handgun on the front passenger seat of the vehicle. He secured the weapon for Officer Safety and the driver (sole occupant) presented a CO DL identifying himself as Damien R. Moore. Trooper Conway began his traffic investigation and the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. Trooper Conway did not pursue. The driver crashed the explorer on North Nevada Ave under I25. The driver dropped another handgun near the crash scene then fled north bound near I25. Falcon day shift officers responded and assisted state patrol. Efforts to locate the Mr. Moore were unsuccessful. Investigation revealed that Mr. Moore is a convicted felon. A warrant has been issued for possession of a weapon by previous offender and numerous traffic charges.

On Friday, April 1, 2016, a lone male subject wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun entered a rented room of a business located in the 3200 block of Broadmoor Valley Road. The unknown subject entered through an open sliding glass door and confronted a victim. According to the victim, the subject became physical with the victim and demanded the victimís vehicle keys, purse, credit cards and cash. The victimís vehicle was not stolen and the victim did not sustain any injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was not apprehended. The investigation is ongoing.

On 3/31/2016, at 0940 hours, the BATTLE (Beat Auto Theft through Law Enforcement) South Task Force, which has members from the CSPD Auto Theft Unit and CSP Investigators, located a stolen motor vehicle in the area of 2100 Pruess Road. For the second time this month, the victim had his vehicle stolen and recovered by the Auto Theft Unit. This vehicle was placed under surveillance. At 1539 hours, the stolen vehicle began to move and the BATTLE South Task Force conducted a rolling surveillance operation in the City of Colorado Springs for an extended period of time.

On 4/1/2016 at 0531 hours, the BATTLE South Task Force and Patrol Officers from Gold Hill shift 3, arrested 2 males and 1 female in the parking lot of the Hillside Apartment Complex, located in the 900 block of South Institute St. The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Ricky Baker (29 YOA) and he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. A juvenile male was also seen by Detectives driving the stolen vehicle during the surveillance operation. The juvenile male also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Mr. Baker was arrested for Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance and First Degree Criminal Trespass. He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center. The Juvenile male was arrested for Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft and First Degree Criminal Trespass. He was transported to the Spring Creek Juvenile Detention Facility.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of April 16, 2015 at 6:11PM due to road conditions. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
