Title
Powers Corridor North of Barnes and West
Location
**Update** As of approximately 0845hrs on 3/19/15, the traffic lights along the Powers corridor were operating correctly and traffic congestion has lessen throughout the area.

On 03/19/15 at approximately 0720hrs, CSPD Communications Center received reports of a power system junction box explosion near Dublin/Powers. The small box was located at the top of a power pole and was observed to be on fire (no danger to the public). About the same time, calls about power outages started flooding in including notifications that traffic lights were completely out at Barnes/Powers, Dublin/Powers, Woodmen/Powers and Briargate/Powers.

Other intersections to the west were also affected. Co. Springs Utilities was notified immediately of the situation and has reported that as of 7:40am, the damaged power lines/system would take 1-3hrs to repair.

At the time of this entry, traffic is backed up along all of Powers Boulevard due to the outages. For the duration of the repair, it is strongly recommended that drivers avoid major thoroughfares such as Powers and Woodmen.

Drivers should treat all intersections as 4-way stops per state law and drive defensively. If you are traveling through those affected areas, please allow for a lengthy commute.

Updates will follow when available and will also be posted on CSPD Twitter accounts @CSPDDutyLt and @CSPDPIO.
