Stetson Hills -- Shift II
N. Carefree Cir. and Powers Blvd.
***UPDATE***** As of 6:25AM, the lights are still non-functioning at this intersection. Officers are opening all lanes of traffic but will be conducting traffic control to facilitate traffic flow. Citizens are encouraged to still avoid the area if they can. If they must go through the intersection, please slow down as officers are on foot directing traffic in the middle of the intersection.
On the above date and time there was a single vehicle traffic accident at N. Carefree Cir. and Powers Blvd. The adult male driver, and only occupant, was southbound on Powers Blvd. and left the roadway striking a light/utility pole in the southwest corner of the intersection. This caused damage to the traffic control signals. The driver was transported to Penrose Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time, but it is possible the driver suffered from a medical condition resulting in the accident. Colorado Springs Utilities is actively working to repair the damaged signals. It is anticipated the intersection will remain closed until approximately 7:00-8:00am. The entire intersection is closed at this time. All traffic is forced to take a right turn once they reach the intersection.
