On Sunday, March 19, 2017 at approximately 0443 hours, Patrol Officers from the Falcon Division were dispatched to a business located in the 4600 block of Rusina Rd., to a reported disturbance. When Officers arrived they learned two male suspects, both carrying large portable fire extinguishers, had entered the business and harassed employees while discharging the fire extinguishers. While Officers were investigating the initial disturbance, the suspects targeted several more nearby businesses by entering and discharging the fire extinguishers. A total of six businesses were targeted during this criminal occurrence. Two employees working at a drive through window were sprayed directly with the fire extinguishers. The two suspects, 19 year old Trevor Rather and a 17 year old juvenile accomplice were located during the follow up investigation. Both parties were arrested for multiple counts of Harassment and Theft. CSFD personnel confirmed to the investigating Officers and victims alike that the chemicals discharged from the two fire extinguishers that were used were not toxic or acutely harmful.

On Saturday, March 18th 2017, Patrol Officers from the Falcon Division were dispatched to the 2900 block of Virginia Ave. and surrounding area to multiple reports of Burglary and BMV’s. The initial investigation revealed several homes, outbuildings, and vehicles had been broken into and disturbed throughout the night, and numerous items belonging to multiple victims had been stolen. Suspect information was developed, and shared with Officers citywide. A short time later Patrol Officers from Stetson Hills made contact with the suspect on an unrelated theft and disturbance call for service. A coordinated effort involving multiple Officers ensued. In total, five criminal cases were cleared, and the vast majority of stolen property was recovered then returned to grateful owners. Tyler Houlditch, a 22 year old white male was arrested for multiple counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Criminal Trespass, Possession of Schedule I Narcotics, Identity Theft, and Shoplifting.

On 03/19/17 at approximately 0136 hours, CSPD Officers were dispatched to a bar located in the 1800 block of N. Circle Drive reference a disturbance between several subjects in the parking lot with several shots being fired. Upon the officers’ arrival, the suspect(s) had left the area in a vehicle. Officers recovered several spent shell casing and spoke with witnesses on scene. No injuries were reported, but a vehicle’s tire was struck with a round from one of the shots that were fired. On 03-18-17 at approximately 0643 hours, officers in the Gold Hill Division were dispatched to the 800 block of Mt. Werner Cr. regarding a traffic accident. Upon arrival officers determined the driver hit two buildings, two parked vehicles, and an electrical box. Both buildings lost electrical power and received structural damage. Officer's contacted the driver and through their investigation placed the driver, identified as Cody Burns (29), into custody for DUI along with additional traffic charges. No injuries were reported.

Platte Avenue and Pitkin Street
Location
Johnny Henson, a 55 year old resident of Colorado Springs, was westbound on Platte Av. attempting to turn left (S/B) onto Pitkin. He turned left in front of a Ford Mustang, traveling E/B on Platte Av. at a high rate of speed, and was struck on the passenger side of his vehicle. Mr. Henson was ejected from his vehicle and died on scene. Both alcohol and speed are considered contributing factors in this accident. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing.

This is the 6th traffic related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2017. At this time in 2016 there were also 6 traffic related fatalities.

Update: As of 11:20PM, the intersection is open in all directions. Preliminary investigation determined one vehicle was travelling westbound on Platte Avenue making a left turn to southbound Pitkin. The second vehicle was traveling eastbound on Platte. An adult male died as a result of the accident. The investigation is continuing.

On the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pitkin Street and Platte Avenue reference a serious traffic accident. The Major Accident Unit responded to assist in the investigation, which is on going. Platte Avenue is currently closed in both directions at Pitkin.

1850 Dominion Way, Dublin House

On the above date and time officers were dispatched to a reported bar disturbance with shots fired at the Dublin House, 1850 Dominion Way. On scene investigation revealed staff members of the Dublin House were attempting to remove two unruly patrons/suspects from the establishment when a scuffle ensued. After the struggle was over the suspects began to leave when one of them returned with a handgun and threatened an employee. This same suspect then fired multiple rounds into the air before fleeing with the second suspect in what was described as possibly a white Dodge Charger. Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches – 6 feet tall, 150-170 pounds who was wearing a red shirt. Suspect #2 is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a white shirt. There were no injuries to any staff members or patrons as a result of the shots fired. Investigation is continuing.

***Update*** during extensive follow-up investigation the suspect was identified as Carlisle Porter, 29 years old. Mr. Porter has been contacted and taken into custody for multiple felony, misdemeanor and traffic charges.

On March 16, 2017, at approximately 3:07AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Lexington Village Lane regarding a shooting. When officers arrived they located a male inside the residence who sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. This is an active investigation. Detectives are conducting interviews and processing the crime scene. There is no risk to the community.

CSPD patrol officers responded to a report of an explosion at the listed address. Investigation revealed that an IED was detonated at the location. Personnel from the Regional Explosives Unit responded to assume the investigation. Further investigation revealed that a nearby residence contained additional improvised explosive devices along with homemade explosives and precursors. All explosives and precursors were seized and rendered safe by Explosives Unit personnel, with the assistance of CSFD HAZMAT and ATF agents. One juvenile suspect was arrested, investigation is continuing. There is no immediate danger to the surrounding community.
CORRECTION: The initial ETACS listed the incorrect date of occurrence as 3-14-17. The correct date of occurrence is 3-15-17.
