Traffic Crash
Title
S. Powers Blvd. and Zeppelin Drive
Location
**********UPDATE ** UPDATE***********

As of approximately 9:00 PM all lanes of traffic have been reopened.

Investigation revealed an eastbound dark colored sedan failed to go through the intersection of Zeppelin Dr. and S. Powers Blvd. safely. The vehicle collided with a white SUV travelling northbound on S. Powers Blvd. through the intersection on a green light. A motorcycle, also travelling northbound, lost control as it was attempting to avoid the collision. The motorcycle driver sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries. The motorcycle driver is being treated at a local hospital.

The driver of the dark colored sedan, identified as 32 year old Hillary Abeyta, attempted to drive away from the scene but was stopped by a witness/citizen approximately one half mile from the scene. Ms. Abeyta was eventually arrested for DUI, vehicular assault, and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injuries among other lesser charges. Ms. Abeyta will be booked into CJC on these charges.

Although the Colorado Springs Police Department appreciates the quick action of the witness/citizen, it does not encourage this type of action due to safety concerns for the witness/citizen.
