On 7/28/2016 at approximately 9:07 am, Officers were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the 4800 block of Portrait Pl. The reporting party indicated the suspect, Deane Williams (29 years old), was wanted on previous felony charges and was currently inside a residence. As officers arrived on scene further information was learned that Mr. Williams had possibly barricaded himself within the residence. Officers were able to established sporadic communication with Mr. Williams and he refused multiple times to exit the premises. Through continued negotiations with Mr. Williams, he eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. During the investigation portions of Oro Blanco Dr. and Portrait Pl. were closed down due to the potential hazard Mr. Williams posed.

On the above date and time, Gold Hill Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of E. Vermijo Avenue reference an unresponsive male discovered in the alleyway. At this time, CSPD is in the preliminary stages of a death investigation involving a male in his twenties. The CSPD Major Crimes Unit was notified, along with the CSPD PIO. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing at this time.

On 07/26/16 at approximately 0427 hours, Officers were advised of a motor vehicle theft. The victim was tracking his vehicle, a white Impala and advised dispatch the vehicle had stopped in the area of Mitchell High School. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle. A male suspect was observed getting out of the stolen vehicle and into a black vehicle which sped out of the parking lot southbound on Potter Drive. The black vehicle was located abandoned in the area of Potter Drive and Bridger Drive. A K-9 search of the area was conducted with negative results. The investigation revealed the black vehicle the suspects fled in was stolen. This vehicle was recovered. The original vehicle, as well as a White Toyota Tundra, was recovered in the Mitchell High School parking lot. They had been stolen in two separate burglaries. One of the suspects was described as black male, 5’7”, wearing dark clothing with a back pack.

On Monday, July 25, 2016 at approx. 2016 hours, CSPD Officers were sent to investigate a disturbance and possible assault involving some juvenile males near Henry Elementary School in the 1300 block of Lehmberg Blvd. in Colorado Sprigs. Investigation led to contacting several parties involved who were located in the 4900 block of Waddell Ave. nearby. CSPD Officer J. Thurman was interviewing some parties involved when a male, identified as Gregory L. Herring, assaulted Officer Thurman by grabbing him by his shirt and trying to throw him to the ground. A physical struggle ensued between Officer Thurman and Mr. Herring where several punches were exchanged and Officer Thurman deployed Oleoresin Capsicum spray into the face of Mr. Herring, who then ran to the south into a trailer park. Containment was set up in the area and K-9 deployed. K-9 Officer S. Mann and his dog, Maverick did a good job of tracking and locating the suspect in the Galley Mobile Home park and K-9 Maverick nearly made contact with the suspect as he jumped over a fence. Suspect Herring then ran to the east and was contacted by Officer. JM Ray, who tased the suspect and took him into custody. Mr. Herring was charged with Second Degree Assault on a Peace Officer. Officer Thurman received minor injuries.

An individual phoned EPSO and stated that he and another person were in the park with assault rifles and they were going to start shooting people. The individual gave physical descriptions of the alleged shooters. Officers made contact with the alleged shooters, who were cooperative, unarmed, and apparently not involved in any crime. It appears that the individual who called was "swating", as there was no real threat in the park.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1100 block of Verde Drive to investigate a home invasion that had just occurred. When officers arrived they contacted a male and female, and the couple's two young children. Officers learned that four male suspects had entered the residence and one of the males was armed with a handgun. The suspect with the gun threatened to shoot the family and was demanding property from the victims. After the victims refused to provide the property the suspects left, and threatened to return.

The four suspects, all soldiers at Fort Carson, were known by the victim. The suspects all turned themselves in at the Sand Creek Substation later in the night. They were charged with First Degree Burglary, Felony Menacing, and Child Abuse.

No one was injured.
