On the above date and time, officers were notified of a personal robbery with a weapon in Cheyenne Canyon Park. Victims stated that they were confronted by three males with ski masks on. One of the suspects was armed with a stun gun and another with a handgun. Electronics and cell phones were taken and the suspects fled the area in an unknown vehicle.
A similar robbery was reported in Garden of the Gods Park and occurred approximately 40 minutes prior to the robbery in Cheyenne Canyon.

On 07/28/15 at approximately 2310 hours officers and medical personnel responded to the 1200 block of Mount Estes Drive in reference to a report of a shot being fired in a home. The reporting party related that she believed her brother had shot himself.

Medical personnel began medical intervention and transported a 19 year old male to Penrose Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the head. Initial investigation suggested the subject had shot himself in his closed bedroom with his adult sister and mother in the home.

The male was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Powers Blvd, north of Fountain Blvd

On 07/28/15, at 2:56 PM, The Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a request for assistance by the EPSO, in the area of Powers Blvd, north of Fountain Blvd. Officers were responding to an armed barricaded subject, who was in the back of an El Paso County Police cruiser, southbound on Powers Blvd., north of Fountain Blvd. Hostage negotiators with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Springs Police Tactical Enforcement Unit attempted to talk the barricaded male into relinquishing his weapon. After a long standoff the male eventually shot himself, and was transported to Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Traffic on north and south Powers Blvd from Airport Road to Fountain Blvd was shut down during this incident. Northbound Powers Blvd was opened to traffic at 7:49 PM, and all traffic lanes were open 9:56 PM.

This incident is being investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit. All further inquiries concerning this incident will be handled by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

On 07/28/2015 CSPD was notified of a burglary at a residence in the 1500 block of Babcock Rd. which occurred the day before. The elderly victim stated she had arrived home from shopping when she was contacted in her garage by a female. She described this female as white, mid 30’s, 5’4 and thin build. Victim said the female arrived in a bright blue, quad cab pickup truck with South Carolina temporary license tags. The truck had a large water container in the bed of the truck. The driver of the truck was a white male, 5’8-5’9, 150lbs with short facial hair and wearing a ball cap with the word, “Navy.” The victim stated the female suspect advised her of problems with her driveway and back patio and asked if she wanted to have them steam clean both. The suspect was able to lure the victim to the rear yard. At this time, the male backed the truck into the driveway and entered the home. The victim reported a large amount of jewelry was stolen.

07/27/2015 at about 11:15PM CSPD Officers were dispatched to a robbery/shooting in the 1000 block of Branding Iron Dr. with 1 person possibly shot. Upon arrival it was discovered that the suspect, Ms. Garvin, had communicated with her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend and had her come to Garvin's house. When she arrived a disturbance occurred and Ms. Garvin pointed a handgun towards the boyfriend, ex-girlfriend and another female and fired 2 bullets. There were no injuries as a result of the rounds being fired. Ms. Gavin was taken into custody and transported to CJC for Menacing and other lesser charges.

On Monday, 07/27/2015, at approximately 10:14 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department Communications Center received a call for service in the 3700 block of E. San Miguel St., the Avalon Valley Apartments complex, reporting that a suspect that had just committed a personal robbery was walking around with a handgun. Based on the suspect description given and direction of travel, officers located the suspect in the area of a nearby Taco Bell where he was detained. The Robbery Unit responded and assisted with the ensuing investigation and arrest. The suspect was identified as 32 year old, Al Johnson. He was later transported to CJC on the charge of Aggravated Robbery.

6900 Block of Delmonico Dr

On the above date and time officers were sent to investigate a possible attempted kidnapping. Upon arrival officers learned an older black van pulled alongside a 15yoa male who was riding his bike in the 6900 blk of Delmonico Dr. A passenger of the van leaned out and told the victim “to slow down.” The van then pulled over, and the Hispanic male passenger grabbed the victim by the shoulder causing his bike to fall over. The victim punched the suspect in the stomach, and was able to right his bike and peddle away. The van, described as having no side doors and dual rear hatch doors, was last seen southbound on Delmonico.

The passenger in the van is described as a clean shaven heavy set Hispanic male, 25-35 years of age, bald head, last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. There is no available description of the driver at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

On 07-26-15 at approximately 2:46PM, officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to a small shopping center in the 3800 block of Astrozon Blvd to a reported disturbance involving over 15 people with weapons.

Officers arrived and located four assault victims who were transported to local area hospitals. None of the injuries were determined to be life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and suspect information is developing. There have been no arrests made at the time of this writing.
