NUCO2 is the supplier NFPA = 3-0-0 special = SA TLV-TWAs, 5000 ppm (ACGIH, 2004) TLV-TWA 15 MIN STEL 30,000 ppm High Pressure liquid and gas. Can cause rapid suffocation....CO2 IS AN ASPHYXIANT May cause frostbite. ****** ATTENTION ******* Indoor storage of compressed gases falling into categories such as asphyxiants, irritants can be hazardous regardless of the type of gas involved simply due to the hazards related to asphyxiation. VENTILATION SHALL BE MAINTAINED AND OPERATIONAL. See ventilation comments. The carbon dioxide shall be transferred---loaded and off loaded through a fill connection located directly adjacent to the tank at the exterior of building. *** fill connection shall be located on exterior of building. ATTENTION: Duplicate gauges shall be installed at the filling connection to enable the driver to fill the container and maintain the required pressure in the container. Pressure relief devices and vents shall be piped to discharge outside in a safe direction. ***Not identified on or with plan set. ****************************** NOTE: Storage areas where an accumulation of inert gas could occur should be continuously monitored with an appropriate alarm system to indicate an oxygen deficient atmosphere. (Recommended) ****A CO2 detector or audible/visual alarm is noted on plan sheet 9 dated 5/28/13.
ILABELING AND MARKING ** Stationary compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks shall be marked with the name of the gas Markings shall be visible from any direction of approach. ** Portable compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks shall be marked in accordance with CGA C-7. Piping systems shall be marked in accordance with ANSI A13.1. ** Markings used for piping systems shall consist of the content#s name and include a direction-of-flow arrow. ** Markings shall be provided at each valve; at wall, floor or ceiling penetrations; at each change of direction; and at a minimum of every 20 feet or fraction thereof throughout the piping run. Portable containers, cylinders and tanks. Portable compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks shall be marked in accordance with CGA C-7. Signs clearly establishing the location and identity of shut-off valves are to be provided. All inert piping systems shall be identified by appropriate labeling with the name of the gas. Warning signs shall be posed at each entrance to the room or enclosure where the bulk inert gas system is installed. Wording shall include: WARNING ---(name of gas) HIGH CONCENTRATION OF GAS MAY OCCUR IN THIS AREA AND MAY CAUSE ASPHYXIATION. VERIFY THAT OXYGEN CONCENTRATION IS ABOVE 19.5% BEFORE ENTERING AND DURING ACTIVITY IN THIS AREA.
FYICARBON DIOXIDE Facilities shall declare the storage and use of small Insulated Carbon Dioxide Systems used in Beverage Dispensing. Gaseous Carbon Dioxide is an asphyxiant gas and exposure to high concentrations may cause toxic effects including asphyxiation. To provide for the safety of building occupants and emergency personnel, ventilation in accordance with the IFC Sections 3007.2, 2704.3 or 2705.1.9 is required where concentrations of this gas are stored or present. All new or proposed building ventilation system designs shall submit for review and permit approval to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. *** ATTENTION**** 2704.3 VENTILATION Indoor storage areas and storage buildings shall be provided with mechanical exhaust ventilation or natural ventilation where natural ventilation can be shown to be acceptable for the materials as stored OR a Listed, approved CO2 detection system, in accordance with the IFC Administrative Ruling. System requirements. Exhaust ventilation systems shall comply with all of the following: 1. Installation shall be in accordance with the International Mechanical Code. 2. Mechanical ventilation shall be at a rate of not less than 1 cubic foot per minute per square foot of floor area over the storage area. 3. Systems shall operate continuously unless alternative designs are approved. 4. A manual shutoff control shall be provided outside of the room in a position adjacent to the access door to the room or in an approved location. The switch shall be of the break-glass type and shall be labeled: VENTILATION SYSTEM EMERGENCY SHUTOFF. 5. Exhaust ventilation shall be designed to consider the density of the potential fumes or vapors released. For fumes or vapors that are heavier than air, exhaust shall be taken from a point within 12 inches of the floor.
FYIVENTILATION 2704.3 CONTINUED 6. The location of both the exhaust and inlet air openings shall be designed to provide air movement across all portions of the floor or room to prevent the accumulation of vapors. 7. Exhaust ventilation shall not be recirculated within the room or building if the materials stored are capable of emitting hazardous vapors. ******************** ATTENTION*************************** PPRBD Mechanical has released for permit these plans.
