Cold Case HEader

Victim: Miles
Victim: Miles

Case Description

File number: 81-3443

The Victim: Robert Michael Miles, age 26, fatally stabbed near his residence.

The Crime: In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 7, 1981, Robert Miles was found laying on the third floor landing of a stairwell of the apartment building at 1930 E. Bijou Street, suffering from an apparent stab wound.  He was transported to a local hosptial, where he lived five days before sucumbing to his wounds.  Mr. Miles had been temporarily staying with relatives in the building at the time of the attack.

Investigation revealed that the victim had been at a bar near Airport Rd and Circle Drive on the preceeding Friday evening, and may have had over $400 cash on his person.  When found, he had only a few dollars with him, suggesting robbery as a possible motive.  Although victim was able to give a statement to police, he was unsure where he had been when he was stabbed, and was unable to describe the circumstances leading up to his attack, or identify a suspect.   His car, a 1972 Buick LeSabre, was found parked at the apartment building where victim was discovered, but did not yield forensic evidence.   At the time of his murder, Mr. Miles was suffering from a pre-existing medical condition which severely impaired his mobility. The investigation into Mr. Miles's death remains open.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
