Cold Case HEader

Victim: Thompson
Victim: Thompson

Case Description

File Number:  73-8366

The Victim:  Linda Thompson, age 24, shot and killed June 18, 1973.

The Crime: On Monday, June 18, 1973 at about 9:00 p.m., Linda Thompson had just dropped her young son off at her babysitter's house at 2435 Airport Rd. when she was shot by an unknown assailant in the front yard of that residence.  Ms. Thompson managed to walk back inside the house and ask for help, then collapsed on the floor and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where she was declared deceased.

The Investigation: Witnesses who were inside the house at the time of the shooting reported hearing two gunshots and seeing a large dark colored car, possibly a Cadillac, parked in a lot across the street.  A man was seen running from the area, but an accurate description could not be provided, and he was not identified.

Ms. Thompson had been employed at the Satin Doll Nightclub in Colorado Springs, and had plans to be married around the day of the shooting.  A number of persons who were acquaintances of the victim, as well as some who had had recent conflicts with her were interviewed, however no suspects were identified who could conclusively be linked to the crime.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
