The Victim: John Michael Jones, 42 years of age.


The Crime: On September 9, 2000 at approx. 8:39 am, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to 400 South Conejos St., Colorado Springs, Colorado, to an area under the Cimarron street overpass, regarding a possible dead body. Officers located the body of a deceased male. The victim was later identified as John Michael Jones. The victim was a transient and had only been in Colorado Springs for approximately one week.


The Investigation: The El Paso County Coroner reported that the victim died as result "of massive blunt force trauma" to the head, neck, and face. The victim had also sustained several stab wounds. Dr. Bowerman noted that the stab wounds were also contributory to the victim's death. The investigation into Mr. Jones's death remains open. 


The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
