Environmental Sustainability E-Newsletter from the City of Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs wins Sustain Lane Local Action Challenge
Colorado Springs won the Sustain Lane Local Action Challenge! In fact, our community didn?t just win, but more than doubled the points of the next closest community. For those who participated in the challenge and uploaded photos (such as this fun photo of City Employee Tim Hodur), thank you so much for your individual commitment to preserving our amazing environment. This is a great statement about our dedicated community members who make a difference every day.
Have a happy eco-holiday

The holiday season is upon us in all its consumerism glory. While no one wants to be the scrooge that pulls the incandescent plug on this most brilliant celebration, some traditions could do with a twist. Click here to visit Fresh Ink for a few ideas to make this a season of giving to future generations as well.

Moving ahead on environmental sustainability plan

The City is undertaking an effort to create an environmental sustainability plan that would outline a series of action items designed to help the organization and community make more sustainable choices for our future. Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funding is allowing the City to make a more robust effort than initially anticipated. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for technical assistance (contact the City Contracting office for more information) and a student intern position (applications due by Dec. 23) are currently posted to the City?s web site as a result of this American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funding. Initial work will involve determining what steps other community organizations are taking and where City has a role to help. Watch for more information in future Green Greetings newsletters and on www.SpringsGov.com/csgreen soon.
