Austin Bluffs Bridge Project enters final phase with opening of new roadway and bridge structure
Wednesday, October 29, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Beginning, Saturday, November 1, 2014, the Austin Bluffs Parkway Bridge over Cottonwood Creek project will enter into the third and final phase of road improvements, with the opening of the newly finished roadway and bridge structure. Traffic on Austin Bluffs Parkway north of Woodmen Road will be shifted to the west, onto the new bridge, enabling crews to begin rehabilitation work on the original bridge and roadway. During this work, traffic will be maintained at one lane in each direction on Austin Bluffs Parkway between Woodmen Road and Meadow Ridge Drive.  Paving operations will take place on Thursday in preparation for this traffic switch.  During these operations, there will be times that two westbound lanes along Woodmen Road will be closed through the intersection.

Motorists are advised to use Powers Boulevard or Rangewood Drive in lieu of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Research Parkway in lieu of Woodmen Road to avoid possible traffic delays.

The goal of this project, which is currently ahead of schedule for completion, is to design and widen the existing Austin Bluffs Bridge over Cottonwood Creek (approximately 250 feet north of Woodmen Road) in order to enhance the north/south connectivity between residential and commercial activity centers.  Wildcat Construction of Colorado Springs was awarded the construction contract. Design services were awarded to Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers and Architects in July 2012.
