Update: Stabbing Investigation - 1000 Kelly Johnson Blvd.

Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 4:16 AM [RELEASE AT WILL]

CSPD officers responded to the 1000 block of Kelly Johnson Boulevard to a reported stabbing.  Upon arrival, officers located a male in a parking lot who was suffering from several stab wounds.  The male was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.  The major crimes unit is currently investigating the incident.

The suspect is a white male in his early thirties, 5’5” – 5’7” tall, 110 -130 pounds with sandy brown hair.  He has multiple tattoos on his body which include dark colored circles on his shins, words on his knuckles and a band on one of his biceps.  The suspect was last seen wearing multi-colored shorts and a red t-shirt.  He should be considered dangerous.

Sunday, August 24, 2014, at 5:45 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]

The suspect in this investigation has been located and taken into custody.  He has been identified as Michael Jonathan Ray, a 32 year old male from Georgia. Probable cause has been established for the charge of Murder in the First Degree. 

The victim has been identified as Patrick Hampton, a 31 year old male from Tennessee.  The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will complete an autopsy on Mr. Hampton on Monday, August 25, 2014.  The official cause and manner of death will be determined at that time.

Colorado Springs Police Department is not seeking any other suspects.
