City completes Cimarron Street Bridge emergency repairs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The City of Colorado Springs has completed emergency repairs of the Cimarron Street Bridge over Fountain Creek. In March, the more than 50 year old bridge was found to have an area of deterioration causing structural issues with the bridge.
City engineers had been monitoring a crack in the bridge for several years and found that it had finally given way, likely as a result of the freeze thaw cycles this winter. City Engineering quickly shifted traffic from the area of concern and utilized an on-call contractor to complete the repairs.
Repairs were successfully completed in the time frame estimated and within the 2014 budget for emergency bridge repairs.
The bridge is scheduled for complete replacement by end-of-year 2015 as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Cimarron/I-25 Interchange Project.
