On Monday, February 1, 2010 at around 2:24AM, Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department Sand Creek Division responded to 1002 Querida Drive in the southeast portion of the city regarding a possible dead body there. A family member had contacted police indicating a female may be dead at that address. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult female inside of the residence. She was identified as Marie "Angie" Sandoval, Age 48, of Colorado Springs, who resided at that address.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes/Homicide Unit are continuing their investigation into the death. The El Paso County Coroner has ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma. The manner of death is still undetermined pending the results from toxicology testing. No further information about this inquiry is available at this time.
On January 22, 2010, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a missing person. Family members reported that Levi Ortivez, Age 42, of Colorado Springs was missing, and they were concerned for his welfare. Investigative follow-up led to the arrest of Steven Henson, Age 34, of Colorado Springs.
On the afternoon of February 11, CSPD detectives with assistance from the Teller County Coroner's Office recovered the body of an adult male in a wooded area off of Gold Camp Road roughly 15 miles east of Victor believed to be Mr. Ortivez. The body was later transferred from the Teller County Coroners Office to the El Paso County Coroners Office. An autopsy confirmed the identity of Mr. Ortivez, and the manner of his death was ruled a Homicide. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma. This is the first Homicide in Colorado Springs during 2010. There were two (2) homicides at this time in 2009.
Additionally, a second arrest was made on February 17th related to this crime. Coyte Holbert, Age 39 of Colorado Springs was placed in custody and taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for the charges of Accessory to 2nd Degree Murder, and Tampering with Evidence.
