Colorado Springs, Colo. – Saturday, August 3 the City of Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management will use the 190 tons of sand from the Olympic-sized volleyball pit for the Olympic Downtown Celebration (held Friday, July 26) to fill sandbags for homeowners that could be impacted by potential flooding after the Waldo Canyon Fire.
Sandbags will be given away free at the Verizon Wireless building (2424 Garden of the Gods Road) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will be on site to fill sandbags and help residents load them in their cars. Residents wanting to pick up sandbags should enter the Verizon Wireless parking lot off of Flying W Ranch Road (note: location change for entrance).
