On Friday, June 7th, detectives from the CSPD Robbery Unit were notified of the arrest of two individuals in Pueblo earlier that morning in connection with the attempted break-in of an ATM.

Casey T. Fernau, 28 and Emma K. Lasek, 22, had been the focus of an ongoing investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Robbery Unit for two bank robberies, one attempted bank robbery and a car-jacking over the past month. Detectives responded to Pueblo to conduct further investigation, and based on numerous facts, were able to obtain arrest warrants for both suspects.

Fernau and Lasek are in custody on $500,000 bond, charged with:

  1. Aggravated Robbery of Key Bank, 3605 Hartsel Drive on Friday, May10 at 4:58PM
  2. Attempted Aggravated Robbery of TCF Bank at 5470 E. Woodmen Road on Sunday, June 2 at 12:50PM
  3. Aggravated Robbery of TCF Bank, 7239 N. Academy Blvd. on Sunday, June 2 at 1:40PM

Fernau was armed during each of the robberies and Lasek has been identified as the getaway driver in each of the cases. They will also be charged with the armed car-jacking robbery of a woman on May 10th, just before the robbery of Key bank, and a motor vehicle theft where they stole a motorcycle on June 2nd, just prior to the TCF Bank robberies.

On the day of the Key Bank robbery, a military-grade smoke grenade was activated near the intersection of Woodmen Rd. and Lexington Dr. just before the robbery was committed. Lasek has been identified as the person who intentionally deployed the device as a diversion while Fernau entered the bank.

This investigation remains open and active.
