Structure Fire at Park Ridge Apartments

Colorado Springs, CO– On December 10, 2011 the Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Park Ridge Apartments on 2602 W. Serendipity Circle at 9:18am. As the first fire units arrived at 9:21am, they saw smoke coming from an apartment on the third floor. Firefighters found the fire to be in a bedroom of the apartment and were able to quickly put it out. The fire was under control within ten minutes of crews arriving.

This was a single alarm fire and CSFD responded with two fire engines, one fire truck, heavy rescue unit, hazmat unit and four support apparatus. CSFD had 24 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire. The third floor of the apartment complex was evacuated due to the fire. Firefighters checked to ensure the air quality was safe in all the apartments before letting people return. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

CSFD fire investigators were called out to the scene and have ruled the fire accidental. The cause of the fire was determined to be a fan that overheated and was located close to clothing and other items that were combustible.

The occupant that lives in the unit where the fire was will be displaced. The CSFD “After the Fire” representatives, the American Red Cross and the apartment manager are assisting them with any needs they may have.
