Fountain/Chelton Intersection Improvements

Project Description: The Fountain Boulevard and Chelton Road intersection configuration doesn't meet current design standards and has been a high accident location. In 2004, the City applied for and received a competative, federally-funded Hazard Elimination and Safety grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation. The project is currently under design with right-of-way purchases still pending. Click here to watch a short video about this project.

Benefits of the finished project will include improved safety for vehicles and pedestrians, better traffic flow, and reduced congestion.

Improvements:

  • Dual left turn lanes from southbound Chelton Road to eastbound Fountain Boulevard
  • Right turn lane from eastbound Fountain Boulevard to southbound Chelton Road
  • Right turn lane from northbound Chelton Road to eastbound Fountain Boulevard
  • Sidewalk and pedestrian ramp improvements to meet ADA requirements
  • Extensive drainage improvements - click here to learn more

Total estimated project cost: $700,000 paid by Hazard Elimination and Safety grant funds and $750,000 paid by the City's Stormwater Enterprise.
