500 N. Murray Blvd

On 10-22-13, at 0840 hours, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a found 4 year old child in the area of N. Murray Blvd and Platte Avenue. CSPD Officers met the reporting party who had found a four year girl wandering about the area. The four year old, identified only as Olivia told the reporting party that she was walking to McDonalds. Officers found the four year old girl to be in good health and unharmed. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area for the young girl’s parents but to no avail. Local media outlets were informed, and assisted the police department by airing a photograph of Olivia on local news stations.

Sometime after noon, the girl’s father called the police to report that his daughter was missing. The four year old girl was eventually reunited with her mother at the Sand Creek substation. The Department of Human Services was notified and responded. The father was eventually charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

The assistance of our local media was greatly appreciated.

Northbound I-25 @ Cimarron St.
Location
A tractor trailer carrying large pipe overturned in the northbound lanes of I-25 near Cimarron St. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled point of rest blocking all northbound lanes of the interstate.

The trailers load/contents came to rest in the southbound lanes of I-25, blocking all southbound lanes, and caused additional accidents.

There are no serious injuries to report at this time.

Traffic on northbound I-25 is being diverted at the Nevada exit. Traffic on southbound I-25 is being diverted at the Cimmaron exit.

The investigation and clean up is anticipated to take several hours. Citizens are encouraged to avoid this area if possible.

As traffic lanes are re-opened, this ETACS will be updated accordingly.

***UPDATE @ 1350 hours***** -- All lanes of traffic on I-25, northbound and southbound, have been re-opened at this time.

UPADATE: The signals are now fully operational. 3:50 AM

On Monday, October 21st, 2013 at 2:51 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a single vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of Union Bl and Austin Bluffs Parkway.

Investigation revealed a Chevy Cavalier was traveling westbound on Austin Bluffs Parkway and exited onto southbound Union Bl. The vehicle failed to negotiate the turn and struck a utility pole.

The driver, 21 year old Shelby Bess, suffered minor injuries. Ms. Bess was arrested for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and various traffic charges.

The traffic signals are currently flashing red and Colorado Springs Utilities are on scene to fix the lights. Until then, drivers are reminded to treat this as a four way stop intersection. At this time it is unknown how long it will take to fix the traffic signals.

On 10/20/13 at approximately 7:14PM Officer Waters and Officer Lonergan were dispatched to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon their arrival they contacted the victim, a 28 year old male.

The victim said he just left Mission Pointe Liquors, 3051 Jet Wing Dr, and was driving through the parking lot. He stopped his vehicle when the suspects began pounding on his windows.

The victim said Suspect 1 opened the driver's door, ordered him out of his car, and punched him in the ribs. The Suspect 2 opened the passenger door and poined a handgun at him. Suspect 1 then grabbed his phone from his lap. Both suspects left the area in an unknown direction.

Officers checked the area for the suspects, but were not able to locate them. There were no injuries.

Suspect 1 was described as a black male approximately 23 years of age, 5'09 and 120 pounds, short black hair, last seen wearing a long blue Tshirt and jeans.

Suspect 2 was described as a black male approximately 25 years old, 5'09 and 230 pounds, last seen wearing a dark shirt and jeans. This supect was armed with a handgun.

Officers were dispatched to Gee Cue's bar located at 3906 E. San Miguel reference an assault that happened in the parking lot at that location. Upon arrival officers made contact with the 31 year old male victim who reported he was walking to the bar from his residence when he was assaulted by two males that were unknown to him. The victim alleged that nothing prompted the fight, no words were exchanged but the two men just started beating him up. The suspects are described as two white males in their late 20’s. One of the males had a thin build and was wearing a black Carhart jacket with a red hat. He is said to have had a tattoo on the right side of his neck. The second male was heavy set, with long hair that was tied in a pony-tail. The victim’s cell phone was taken during the fight. Nothing further at this time.

UPDATE: The El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy and identified the victim as 25 year old, Carlos Eduardo Zuasnabar.

The manner of death has officially been ruled a homicide and the cause listed as stab wound.

There are no suspects or persons of interest identified at this time so investigators are asking if anyone has information to please call 444.7000.

Note: This remains an active investigation and therefore, no further information will be released.
Sadly, this marks the 27th homicide for CSPD in 2013.
Last year at this time, 19 homicides were investigated. There were a total of 22 deaths in 2012.




The Colorado Springs (CO) Police Department received the report of a possible dead body in the 3900 block of North Academy Blvd.
Upon arrival, officers located a victim who was a deceased male in the parking lot area southwest of Austin Bluffs Pkwy. and Academy Blvd.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are on scene conducting an investigation and the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Astrozon Blvd/Astrozon Cr regarding a water main break causing a very large sink hole. Officers were requested to shut down the road to through traffic. As officers were closing down the road, a driver was able to access the road through a side street and drove her vehicle into the sink hole. The driver did not have any injuries, and the vehicle was able to be towed out of the sink hole with minimal damage. Colorado Springs Utilities responded to the scene and was working on repairing the burst pipe and roadway. Barricades responded to block off the street as well.
