***UPDATE*** All lanes of Union Blvd are open again.
On 11-2-15 the CSPD dispatch center received a call from the owner of a stolen vehicle. This person had seen his stolen car driving northbound on Academy Blvd near the intersection of York. The owner elected to follow the vehicle, and was relaying information to CSPD dispatch, the owner followed the vehicle to the area of Union Blvd and Austin Bluffs when he advised that he saw marked CSPD vehicles coming up behind him. Officers Peterson and Rymer then initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of N. Union Blvd and Arcadia. The suspect driver started to pull over, but then took off from officers at a high rate of speed. A brief pursuit occurred, and shortly after the pursuit was terminated, officers arrived in the 1800 block of N. Union Blvd and observed a four-car accident. One of the vehicles involved in this accident was the suspect vehicle. Officers observed multiple people fleeing the suspect vehicle in various directions. Two of the passengers in the suspect vehicle were detained. One was arrested on unrelated charges. The driver has not been apprehended at this time. The Major Accidents Unit responded to the accident scene and took over that aspect of the investigation. This section of Union Blvd will be closed for several more hours, due to the on-going investigation. No one was seriously injured in this accident.

Cold Accident Reporting
The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of April 16, 2015 at 6:11PM due to road conditions. Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
