On 02/28/14 at approximately 1950 hours, the Creek Enforcement Team (CET) located a stolen vehicle parked along the side the Cedar Crest apartments. After conducting Surveillance for a short period of time the CET Officers detained two individuals getting into the vehicle. After further investigation one of the detained individuals was taken into custody for MVT. This was the third vehicle recovered this evening by the CET Officers (for a total value of appx $8000) that has led to two separate arrests for MVT as well as other charges. A third person was taken in to custody on a Felony Warrant. The investigation is continuing.

On 02/27/14, just after 9:00PM, CSPD patrol officers responded to a report of shots being fired near Pikes Peak and Academy. Witnesses described a man having shot at the occupants of another car, which was traveling southbound on Academy. The victim was later located by Sand Creek officers. Robbery Unit investigators were already looking for Stanton, and were notified of the latest information.

On February 28, 2014, members of the CSPD Robbery Unit, Tactical Enforcement Unit, Commit Team and K9 Unit joined forces to locate and arrest a suspect wanted in two armed robberies and an attempted murder. Shortly before 8:00PM, Angelo Vincent Stanton, 22, was spotted driving a car near Fountain Blvd. and Chelton Road. He attempted to elude police after a traffic stop was initiated, but the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety. His car was found abandoned nearby and Stanton was spotted on foot in the area. He was taken into custody near Verde Dr. and Chelton Rd. after attemping to flee.

Stanton will be booked into CJC on three separate warrants of $25,000, $150,000 and $200,000 bond. He is suspected in other recent violent felonies which are still under investigation.

750 Citadel Drive East, Citadel Mall

On 02-28-14 at approximately 1745 hours an officer working at the Citadel Mall was advised of a disturbance going on outside the maintenance doors located on the north side of the mall. The officer along with Sand Creek Patrol Units responded to the area at which time two suspects fled on foot northbound. It was determined one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. Sand Creek Units swarmed the area and located one of the suspects, identified as Kevin Seitz (28) and later a handgun near a dumpster. The second suspect was not located at this time and is believed to have been the one in possession of the handgun. The victim was located and sustained minor injuries after being hit with the gun. Officers determined the assault stemmed from a personal issue between the victim and one of the suspects. Mr. Seitz was arrested on felony assault and menacing charges. The investigation is continuing to identify the second suspect. Additional charges are pending for the second suspect.

On 02-28-14 at approximately 1604 hours, Officers from the Sand Creek Division and Stetson Hills Division responded to the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 665 North Murray Blvd. regarding a Bomb Threat the employees received by phone. Officers arrived on scene and immediately evacuated the Walmart Store and the surrounding businesses as a precautionary measure. A thorough search of the Walmart store was completed and a short time later cleared to re-open. The investigation continues in an attempt to identify a suspect.

Northbound I-25 is currently open.

The investigation revealed that four vehicles were involved in a traffic accident as all began to slow for a separate accident that was also being investigated on I-25. Several of these vehicles were unable to stop for the change in traffic conditions and collided, causing two of the vehicles to lose control and strike the center median. One of the occupants was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

On 02/28/24 at approximately 0740 hours, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Gold Hill Division were dispatched to the area of northbound I-25 at S. Nevada Ave. to investigate a four car, injury traffic accident. At this time the investigation is on-going. Our community is advised that two lanes of northbound traffic are closed and as such there are significant delays in the area. Please avoid the area if possible. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Astrozon Bl and Academy Bl on a three car traffic accident. At this time, the crash is currently being investigated and there are road closures.

Northbound Academy Blvd at Hancock Blvd is completely shut-down.

Southbound Academy Blvd at Astrozon Blvd there are no left turns onto eastbound Astrozon Blvd.

Eastbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, there is no "through lanes" open, drivers can only go south bound or north bound on Academy.

Westbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, drivers can not make a left turn to go southbound on Academy.

(Most of the accident scene is located in the northbound lanes of Academy Blvd on the southeast side of the roadway)

Due to more vehicles being out on the roadway because of the Christmas Holiday season, this area has become extremely congested with traffic. CSPD is requesting drivers find an alternate route at this time. It is unknown how long the intersection will be shut down.

Investigation Update: The Major Accident team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The investigation shows that vehicle #1, A PT Cruiser was southbound on Academy Blvd. approaching Astrozon. The traffic signal for southbound changed to red and a the east bound Astrozon light turned green. A green Dodge Dakota truck began to travel east on Astrozon and was struck by the PT Cruiser which failed to stop for the red light. The Green truck was subsequently pushed into a white Ford truck which was stopped for the light on north bound Academy. A 6 year old passenger in the PT Cruiser sustained injury and was transported from the scene to a local hospital. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Identified as Brenda Hurt, a 22 year old female and aunt to the injured child. Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor in the accident. Charges are pending further investigation
