On the above date and time, officers were dispatched to the Quality Inn in response to a possible assault. Initial investigation revealed that a male suspect had stolen a vehicle and parked it behind the Quality Inn on Harrison Rd. During the initial investigation, officers were notified that the suspect may be in a green Dodge station wagon at a nearby business. Officers stopped this vehicle and the suspect exited the right rear passenger seat of the vehicle, fleeing the scene on foot. Two occupants who remained in the vehicle were detained and a handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Officers set up containment in the area and a canine search was conducted, but the suspect was not found. The investigation is ongoing.

On 01-06-16 at approximately 1:00 A.M., Officers from the Stetson Hill Division responded to the 7-11 store located at 2825 Briargate Blvd. to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect entered the store with a gun and demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk. The clerk complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot to the south. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, 600, wearing a black hoodie, black sweat pants, black and white bandana over his face and a white beanie cap.
On 01-01-16 at approximately 4:45 A.M. the same 7-Eleven was robbed by an individual who brandished a gun and demanded cash and cigarettes. The suspect on the 1st was described as a white male wearing a black hoodie, jeans and black bandana covering his face. He also fled on foot.

2600 Avalanche Hgts.

On Tuesday January 5th, 2016 at approx. 10:08PM, officers of the Colorado Springs Police Dept. responded to 2600 Avalanche Hts, regarding a shots fired call for service. The reporting party, Frank Dawkins, indicated he mis-fired his handgun while cleaning it. Upon arrival, officers learned that the Dawkins had accidently fired his handgun into a wall. The round went through a common wall shared with a neighbor. The neighbor was sitting on a couch when the round went through the wall striking the neighbor. The neighbor sustained non-life threatening injuries from the gunshot wound. The neighbor was taken to the hospital for the minor injury. Mr. Dawkins was subsequently arrested for Illegal Discharge of a Firearm and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

A 20 year old female Colorado College student was crossing the road in a crosswalk on Cascade Ave. A vehicle traveling southbound was driven by 69 year old female. The driver did not see the pedestrian and struck her with the vehicle. The pedestrian was dragged approximately 38 feet and pinned under the vehicle. She sustained a fractured clavicle and a lacerated liver. She is expected to recover from her injuries. The driver was cited for careless driving resulting in injury.

On 01/04/16 at approximately 0149 hours, Officers were dispatched to the Walgreens store located at 2785 Dublin Blvd to investigate a burglary alarm. As Officers were arriving in the area, they observed a male who was acting suspiciously a half block away from the Walgreens. Officers attempted to contact this male who immediately ran away, discarding several items as he fled. Officers were able to detain the male after a two block foot chase and they recovered additional items that appeared to have been taken from inside the Walgreens. Surveillance footage from the Walgreens showed that this same male had broken the glass door, entered and then removed several items from within. Arrested for the burglary was a 17 year old male.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of April 16, 2015 at 6:11PM due to road conditions. Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
