PRESS RELEASE:4th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

An El Paso County Grand Jury has indicted twelve individuals on charges of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and various other charges including burglary, theft, criminal mischief, money laundering and computer crimes for their involvement in a multi-state cell phone theft ring and fencing operation.

The indictment covers a series of burglaries that occurred throughout Colorado and New Mexico between June 29 and August 10, 2015 involving a total of twenty-five cell phone stores and over $325,000.00 in merchandise.

On January 12, 2017, the Grand Jury handed down a 79 count indictment against twelve individuals, two of whom were juveniles at the time of their alleged offenses. The indictment alleges that the defendants worked together to break into twenty-five cell phone stores in Colorado and New Mexico and steal primarily cell phones during those burglaries. It is further alleged that the cell phones were then resold to unsuspecting customers through E-bay and other means by CT Electronics and GT Electronics.

The indicted individuals include Carlos Trejo, 31, Halat Gozeh, 21, Erric Carolina, 35, Antivius Crowder, 23, Isaiah Pickett, 21, Dominic Daniels, 22, Demetrius Jefferson, 24, Elyce Schmidt, 21, Cameron Sprenger, 22, Devante Hunter, 25, and two juveniles. All of the indicted individuals are from Colorado Springs except Cameron Sprenger who is from Ft. Collins. They have all been arrested and most are currently in custody in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on bonds ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.

The Colorado Springs Police Department led this greater than year-long investigation and were assisted by investigators from the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office, police departments in Greeley, Loveland, Aurora, Arvada, Castle Rock, Littleton, Lakewood, Pueblo, Lone Tree, Golden, Thornton, and Albuquerque, New Mexico and sheriff’s offices from Jefferson County and Arapahoe County.

Please remember that these charges are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
