Title
705 S. Nevada Ave. (Police Operations Center)
Location
On 09/29/14 at approximately 1140 hours, a member of our community came into the Police Operations Center to turn over a then unidentified, unexploded device. Police department personnel took possession of the device and in doing so they removed it from the lobby in an attempt to minimize the risk posed to those who were in the building. A number of officers were used to contain the situation and to evacuate the lobby portion of the building while representatives from the Metro EOD responded to take possession of the device. The initial investigation indicates the device is an unexploded, military grade smoke bomb. While no charges are currently pending, the investigation into where the device came from is on-going.

Members of the community are asked to contact the police department at 719-444-7000 should they locate anything they believe to be some sort of explosive or incendiary device. This will minimize the risk posed to the individual and to the community as a whole, as well as allow police personnel to render the device safe.
