As of 0345 hours, all lanes of E. Fillmore Street are now open.

The investigation revealed a Jeep was traveling eastbound on E. Fillmore Street when it crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck an oncoming semi truck. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep, 23 year old Matt Kershaw, was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and other traffic charges.

The semi truck suffered damage that caused fuel to leak from the gas tank. Approximately 30-40 gallons was leaked, but was otherwise contained by the Colorado Springs Fire Department.


On Tuesday, August 5th at 10:18 PM, CSPD Officers were dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of E. Fillmore Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. A semi truck and a Jeep were involved. One person was transported to a local hospital.

Currently all traffic lanes of east and westbound E. Fillmore Street are closed until further notice. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

This ETACS will be updated once lanes of traffic are open and the on scene investigation is completed.

Location
On Monday August 4th Officer Matt Kerr was dispatched to 555 North Chelton Rd reference a shoplift that had occurred the day before. Officer Kerr`s investigation showed that on Sunday August 3rd Grandmother, Trina Chavez-Hutchins brought her ten year old grandson and seven year old granddaughter to this location to shoplift. The grandmother and granddaughter are seen on store video selecting items and placing them into a basket. A witness sees grandmother run out the door of the store yelling at the grandkids to “run, hurry get in the car”. The witness obtained the license plate which led officers to the 4800 block of Live Oak Dr where they recovered approximately half of the $360.00 in items that were stolen. Ms. Chavez-Hutchins was arrested and charged with theft as well as the Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor which is a felony. DHS was also contacted about the incident.

4500 block of Hollyridge Drive
Location
On Monday, 08-04-2014, at 8:08PM, Sand Creek Division officers responded to a report of an intoxicated and suicidal male firing rounds from a handgun in a neighborhood in the 4500 block of Hollyridge Drive.

Upon arrival, officers set up containment on the residence and, upon receiving information the male was passed out inside, made entry into the residence and arrested the male without incident.

Ensuing investigation revealed the male had become upset earlier in the evening, retrieved a handgun from his residence, stepped into the front yard and fired the handgun. At the time, there were several residents in the area and a birthday party being attended by several children was in progress.

The male was arrested and booked at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on firearms-related charges.

Falcon officers were dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the 700 Blk. of Rockrimmon Blvd. On arrival officers discovered a Jeep Wrangler that had crashed into a backyard of a home. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. Major Accident Unit detectives responded to the scene to investigate the crash.

On Sunday, 08/03/2014 the Colorado Springs Police Department received information about a possible kidnapping. The female victim was eventually located by Police in the 3000 block of Monica Dr. West. The investigation revealed the victim had been strangled and sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, earlier in the day. Detectives with the Police Departments Special Victims Unit responded to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department are currently attempting to locate the suspect, Richard Leslie Joseph. Mr. Joseph is described as a 48 year old black male, 6’00” tall, and 190 pounds. Mr. Joseph was last seen driving his vehicle after the occurrence, a red 2001 Ford Escape bearing Colorado license plate 018-XCY. Mr. Joseph should be considered armed and dangerous. If a citizen observes Mr. Joseph or his vehicle, the Colorado Springs Police Department asks that you immediately call 911.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Astrozon Bl and Academy Bl on a three car traffic accident. At this time, the crash is currently being investigated and there are road closures.

Northbound Academy Blvd at Hancock Blvd is completely shut-down.

Southbound Academy Blvd at Astrozon Blvd there are no left turns onto eastbound Astrozon Blvd.

Eastbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, there is no "through lanes" open, drivers can only go south bound or north bound on Academy.

Westbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, drivers can not make a left turn to go southbound on Academy.

(Most of the accident scene is located in the northbound lanes of Academy Blvd on the southeast side of the roadway)

Due to more vehicles being out on the roadway because of the Christmas Holiday season, this area has become extremely congested with traffic. CSPD is requesting drivers find an alternate route at this time. It is unknown how long the intersection will be shut down.

Investigation Update: The Major Accident team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The investigation shows that vehicle #1, A PT Cruiser was southbound on Academy Blvd. approaching Astrozon. The traffic signal for southbound changed to red and a the east bound Astrozon light turned green. A green Dodge Dakota truck began to travel east on Astrozon and was struck by the PT Cruiser which failed to stop for the red light. The Green truck was subsequently pushed into a white Ford truck which was stopped for the light on north bound Academy. A 6 year old passenger in the PT Cruiser sustained injury and was transported from the scene to a local hospital. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Identified as Brenda Hurt, a 22 year old female and aunt to the injured child. Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor in the accident. Charges are pending further investigation
