4700 Endicott Drive

On Tuesday, 05/06/2014 CSPD Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Endicott Dr. to a disturbance involving a shotgun. A suspect had returned to a party after having been asked to leave, he was armed with a shotgun and threatening to kill the homeowner. The suspect pointed the shotgun at the victim, then pointed it in the air and fired one round. The suspect then returned home, which was next door to the location of occurrence. Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspectís residence, and an arrest warrant for his arrest. When negotiations for the suspect to surrender failed, TEU responded to the scene. When those negotiations failed, OC was introduced inside the suspectís residence. The suspect surrendered to TEU without further incident about 45 seconds later. The suspect was arrested for felony menacing, and multiple weapons violations. The shotgun used during the occurrence was recovered during the execution of search warrant.

The Colorado Springs Police Department received the report of a shooting at Savannahís Bar located at 2510 E. Bijou St.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one male was deceased at the scene. A second victim, who is a 37 year old male, was transported to a local hospital for trauma and is listed in critical condition.

It was reported that there had been a possible white vehicle leave the area in an unknown direction of travel, which may have been involved in this incident. The Violent Crimes Section responded and is conducting the investigation.

If this case is ruled a homicide by the El Paso County Coronerís Office it will be the 10th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2014 compared to 13 homicides at the same date in 2013.

1400 S. Circle Drive

The Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a two car traffic accident in the 1400 block of S. Circle Drive. The investigation revealed that the driver of a tan Saturn had struck another motor vehicle while travelling northbound on S. Circle Drive. The tan Saturn then drove off of the roadway to the east, crashing into the chain link fence of a residence in the 1400 block of Royale Drive.


The female driver of the tan Saturn was transported to Memorial Hospital by AMR paramedics. The preliminary medical information indicates that the female driver suffered from a medical condition prior to the collision, causing her to drive off of the road. No charges are pending at this time.

Update: 10:45AM: A 3 block voluntary evacuation notice has been sent out to surrounding locations: This is the Colorado Springs Police Department with an emergency message. The fire department is battling a structure fire at the Martin Drake Power Plant near 700 Conejos St. Fire Command has issued a voluntary evacuation request for a 3 block radius of the plant due to chemicals present. Please leave the area avoiding the use of Cimarron Street.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is currently on Accident Alert and Priority One Dispatch Status due to a structure fire at the Martin Drake Power Plant. The public is advised to contact CSPD via 911 for emergencies only at this time. For non-life threatening matters, please wait to contact CSPD until after a media release update is provided. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Astrozon Bl and Academy Bl on a three car traffic accident. At this time, the crash is currently being investigated and there are road closures.

Northbound Academy Blvd at Hancock Blvd is completely shut-down.

Southbound Academy Blvd at Astrozon Blvd there are no left turns onto eastbound Astrozon Blvd.

Eastbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, there is no "through lanes" open, drivers can only go south bound or north bound on Academy.

Westbound traffic on Astrozon approaching Academy, drivers can not make a left turn to go southbound on Academy.

(Most of the accident scene is located in the northbound lanes of Academy Blvd on the southeast side of the roadway)

Due to more vehicles being out on the roadway because of the Christmas Holiday season, this area has become extremely congested with traffic. CSPD is requesting drivers find an alternate route at this time. It is unknown how long the intersection will be shut down.

Investigation Update: The Major Accident team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The investigation shows that vehicle #1, A PT Cruiser was southbound on Academy Blvd. approaching Astrozon. The traffic signal for southbound changed to red and a the east bound Astrozon light turned green. A green Dodge Dakota truck began to travel east on Astrozon and was struck by the PT Cruiser which failed to stop for the red light. The Green truck was subsequently pushed into a white Ford truck which was stopped for the light on north bound Academy. A 6 year old passenger in the PT Cruiser sustained injury and was transported from the scene to a local hospital. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Identified as Brenda Hurt, a 22 year old female and aunt to the injured child. Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor in the accident. Charges are pending further investigation
