On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 members from the Metro VNI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Sand Creek Impact Team contacted five individuals in a vehicle that was displaying stolen license plates. The vehicle had been reported stolen as well. Upon contact four individuals were detained, and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. The suspect who fled, a juvenile male, was captured a short time later. That juvenile male was booked into the Spring Creek Juvenile Detention Center for motor vehicle theft and four unrelated warrants. Two of the four additional individuals detained were also found to have multiple unrelated warrants. During the follow-up investigation, the stolen vehicle was returned to the registered owner.

Highway 24 Bypass between Chelton Road and Union Boulevard

On 11/11/2015, at approximately 0605 hours, the CSPD Communications Center was advised of a large water main break on the Martin Luther King Bypass, in the westbound lanes between S. Union Boulevard and S. Chelton Road. The westbound lanes of traffic will be closed until at least early evening hours while the water line break is repaired. Westbound traffic on Fountain Boulevard is being diverted at S. Chelton Road. Motorists should avoid the area and use an alternative route. This entry will be updated when the road has been reopened.

On November 10, 2015 at approximately 7:45PM Gang Unit detectives were in the 100 block of N Murray Bl when they heard 4-5 shots fired in the area. Gang Unit detective Mitchell saw a vehicle in the area as a passenger shot from it. The vehicle was then stopped and the occupants removed by police.

The investigation revealed the person shooting was Adolfo Salomon Valenciano Galvan (21). A gun was recovered from the vehicle.

Valenciano was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon by previous offender and illegal discharge of a firearm.

No damage or injury was identified

Briargate Parkway and Voyager Parkway
Location
At approximately 7:40AM CSPD responded to a 7 vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of Voyager Parkway and Briargate Parkway. A dump truck was traveling east on Voyager Parkway when it failed to stop for the red light at Voyager Parkway and Briargate Parkway. The dump truck struck a southbound vehicle which caused the dump truck to change direction, continue southeast over the median, and strike the remaining vehicles that were stopped in the number 1 and 2 turn lanes waiting to turn from northbound Voyager onto westbound Briargate. The driver of the dump truck and one other motorist were transported to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered factors. All traffic on Northbound Voyager Parkway had to be diverted for approximately 2.5 hours until the vehicles could be moved. The driver of the dump truck was issued a summons for the red light violation.

Circle Dr & Hancock Expressway

The Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a one car accident on Circle Drive, southbound near the Hancock Expressway. The investigation revealed that a white sedan was traveling south on Circle Drive, left the roadway and struck a light pole before coming to rest. The driver and two passengers were transported to Memorial Hospital. The two passengers suffered serious bodily injury, while the driver suffered minor injuries and was eventually released from the hospital and then taken into custody and charged with vehicular assault, driving under the influence of drugs and careless driving.

The Major Accident Unit Detectives responded and are continuing the investigation.

All lanes of southbound Circle Drive are shut down.

On the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Tutt Boulevard to investigate a single car rollover accident. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was northbound on Tutt when it struck the center median The vehicle then rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its roof. The driver of the vehicle was ejected, however, did not sustain serious injury. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors. Both directions of Tutt Boulevard were closed for several hours during the investigation.

Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
