The Colorado Springs Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) received CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). During the course of the follow up investigation, detectives learned that a 44 year old Colorado Springs male was in possession of child pornography. Detectives further learned that the male was a Colorado Springs School District #11 teacher.

On January 26, 2018, detectives arrested Mike Hedges without incident. He was charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Child, CRS 18-6-403, a Class 3 felony. Hedges was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center with no bond.

We have no information at this time that any students are victims. Follow Twitter for photograph.

The funeral for Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Heath Gumm will take place on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at the Flatirons Community Church, 355 West South Boulder Road in Lafayette CO. Those attending the service are asked to be at the church no later than 10:00 AM. Updates will follow this announcement.

Attendance by off-duty sworn and civilian personnel is voluntary but encouraged. Off-duty sworn personnel are approved to wear the Class A uniform, which includes a Long Sleeved Shirt, Tie, and Hat. Neither sworn nor civilian off-duty personnel are authorized to operate or ride in a city vehicle to or from the event and no overtime or comp-time compensation is approved for off-duty members who attend. On-duty sworn and civilian personnel may attend with supervisor approval.

It is appropriate for all officers to wear a mourning band on their badges in the 2 o’clock to 8 o’clock position from now through midnight on the day of the service.

On 01/28/18 at approximately 2200 hours, Officers responded to the 5200 block of Half Moon Drive reference the report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a citizen’s driveway. Officers located the vehicle occupied 2x. Officer attempted contact with the occupants and identified themselves as police officers. The driver attempted to back up his vehicle and then pulled forward towards and officer causing the officer to jump out of the way to prevent being hit. The vehicle then fled in an unknown direction of travel.

On 01/28/2018 at approximately 0005 hours, Officers of the Falcon Division were dispatched to the 4600 block of Rusina Road regarding a personal robbery. The investigation revealed that the victim had invited an unidentified male to her room. The victim stated she had met the male the night before at a nightclub. Approximately 5-10 minutes after arriving, the suspect pulled a handgun on the victim, telling her to give him her money. When the victim told the suspect she did not have any money, he demanded her phone. She gave him her phone and the suspect left the area in an unknown vehicle. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. There is no danger to the public in general at this time.

On 1/27/18 at approximately 0118 hours, units were dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the 140 block of North Academy Blvd. Upon arrival of responding units it determined that the operator of the involved vehicle was heading northbound in the left through lane when it veered off the right side of the road striking an electric tower. The vehicle was occupied by two adult males. The passenger of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was determined to have serious bodily injury. The driver of the vehicle was detained for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol. Northbound North Academy Blvd. was shut down, with all northbound traffic diverted onto Shelly Dr. The CSPD Major Accident Unit was notified, responded to the accident scene and assumed the investigation.

Officers responded to 2900 N. Prospect St. to investigate a burglary alarm. Officers saw two juveniles inside the fence line trying to break into the business and they fled on foot. Officers caught one suspect immediately nearby. The second suspect forced his way into two other homes in the neighborhood telling home owners he was just robbed and needed them to call his parents, not the police. Investigation revealed both parties were together and broke into a building at the business. Both were arrested on 2nd Degree Burglary and 1st Degree Criminal Trespass.

Location
On the above date and time, a male victim was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot in the 3200 block of E. Platte Avenue. While he was sitting in his vehicle, he was approached by an unknown male suspect who asked the victim for money. The victim gave the male some spare change, and the male then produced a black revolver, and pointed it at the victim, while telling the victim to exit his vehicle. The victim refused. The suspect then demanded that the victim give him the victim's cell phone. The victim again refused, and quickly left the area in his vehicle.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 5'6" tall, 160 to 170 pounds, wearing a black or dark grey jacket. He was last seen running away westbound.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during this incident.

This is the Colorado Springs Police Department with an important message. CSPD is searching for a missing 12 year old child last seen in the area of the 3300 block of Kirkwood Drive. CSPD is searching for a Alexander Mauldin a 12 year old White Male 5’5”, thin build, last seen wearing a royal blue jacket, dark blue polo shirt black slacks, black shoes with a yellow and green backpack. He is not dressed for the weather. He was supposed to be walking home to the area of 3600 Dogwood Dr. If you see a child matching this description please call CSPD at 719-444-7000.

On 1/26/18 at approximately 2319 hours, CSFD responded to a wildland fire in the area of Janitel Rd. and E. Las Vegas. Upon arrival the fire was estimated to by approximately forty foot by sixty foot. Several small propane bottles exploded in the fire. At approximately 2356 hours the fire was contained. Investigation revealed that the fire started in what appeared to be a homeless camp. No one was injured and no significant loss of property. CSPD assisted with traffic control.

On 1/26/18 at 1902 hours the Colorado Sprigs Police Department was notified of a shooting victim at Memorial Hospital. Officer responded and contacted the victim, a 22 year old male.

The victim said he had been at Memorial Park, near the War Memorial, when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect had a gun and demanded the victim's phone and wallet. The victim said the suspect then grabbed him with one hand while his other hand held the gun. The victim was struggling with the suspect when the gun went off striking the victim in the right thigh.

The suspect ran from the area. The victim got in his car and drove himself to Memorial Hospital. The victim sustained a gun shot wound to his inner right thigh. He was treated and released.

The suspect was described as an unknown race male wearing a black half mask with a white skull on it, a red sweatshirt, black pants, and gray Nike Air Jordans. The gun was described as black in color.

Officers checked Memorial Park, but were not able to locate a scene.
