On Thursday, 04-06-17 at approximately 0209 hours, a call for service was received regarding a robbery that had just occurred. The victim was a cab driver and the incident occurred in the area of 1700 S. Wahsatch Ave. The suspects were described as two young Hispanic males and one young black male, all of whom appeared to be approximately 13 to 15 years of age, wearing dark clothing. They started to pay for the fare, but one male produced a hand gun and demanded money from the victim. The victim did not have any money to provide and all of the suspects fled the area on foot.

A perimeter was established and a K-9 unit was called to respond. K-9 officers conducted a search of the area that did not produce any results.

April 5, 2017 {Release at Will}

On March 17, 2017, at approximately 7:09 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the intersection of Pitkin Street and East Platte Avenue in reference to an automobile accident. Upon arrival it was determined that a pick-up truck driven by 55 year old Colorado Springs resident Johnny Henson turned left, or southbound, from westbound East Platte Avenue and was struck by an eastbound Ford Mustang being driven by 41 year old William Hudson of Colorado Springs. Mr. Henson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into this incident. The investigation revealed Mr. Hudson was driving in a reckless manner just prior to the accident. On April 4, 2017, Mr. Hudson was arrested for Vehicular Homicide, a Class 4 Felony. Mr. Hudson was transported and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. Photograph will be posted on Twitter when available.

2400 Broadway Ave.

On Wednesday, 04-05-17 at approximately 0308 hours, a call for service was received regarding a shooting. The call came from staff at Penrose Main Hospital, indicating the victim had been shot in the 2400 block of Broadway Ave. Officers responded to the hospital and contacted the victim, a 30-year-old male. He reported he had interrupted what he perceived as someone breaking into his vehicle in the parking lot of his apartment complex. When he confronted the suspect, he was shot once in the hand.

The victim described the suspect as an approximately 40-year-old Hispanic male, approximately 5’10”, with a muscular build and an almost shaved head. The victim and suspect both ran away from each other after the shot was fired.

There is no known on-going threat to the community. The victim is in stable condition and undergoing medical treatment.

On Wednesday, 04/05/17, at 12:30am, two black males entered the 7 Eleven in the 4600 block of Austin Bluffs Pkwy and robbed the store. They fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Patrol officers quickly arrived in the area and set up containment. Officer Clay attempted contact and the suspects fled on foot. Officer V. Taylor observed a male walking in the area and made contact. Detectives from the Robbery Unit responded and assumed the investigation. One adult black male was charged with aggravated robbery. The investigation is ongoing.

April 4, 2017 {Release at Will}

On April 4, 2017, at approximately 8:48AM, Stetson Hills Division patrol officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of Eagle Canyon Drive to investigate a double stabbing. Initial investigation determined a twenty-one year old male stabbed his seventeen year old brother and fifty-one year old mother. The fifty-two year old father was confronted by his son, the suspect, and received a minor head injury. Both the mother and brother are in critical, but stable condition.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. All individuals are accounted for. The suspect’s name and photograph will be released on Twitter when appropriate. This is an active investigation.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of April 4, 2017 at 3:00 am due to road conditions. If involved in a minor traffic accident, drivers should exchange their information and complete a counter (cold) accident report when the following conditions are met:

• No one died or was hurt
• There were no drugs or alcohol involved
• The wreck did not damage public property (e.g., a road sign, utility pole, etc.)
• All drivers in the accident are still there, and everyone agrees to and has vehicle and insurance information to exchange.

Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or go on line at ColoradoSprings.gov > Public Safety > Police > Report a Minor Traffic Accident.

Drivers are reminded to check road conditions before heading out, leave more time to get to their destination, travel at a safe speed for the conditions and increase the following distance to the vehicle in front of them.

On Monday, April 3rd, @ 3:30PM, a red Ford Mustang had just fled the scene of a nearby accident. The car sped southbound on Iowa St., ran a stop sign at Bijou St., and crashed into a Ford pickup travelling westbound on Bijou. The driver of the truck was ejected. After colliding with the pickup, the Mustang continued and was stopped by a brick wall/planter. The driver of the Mustang was later arrested for DUI and Felony Traffic charges. MAU was called out. Both drivers suffered serious injuries.

2300 Block of South Academy Blvd.

On Sunday, April 2nd, at about 4:20PM, CSPD received a report of an armed robbery at a clothing store, near Astrozon and Academy. A Hispanic female entered the store and diligently attempted to distract one of the workers. Next, a Hispanic male entered the store and showed a black handgun. Then, two more Hispanic males entered and stole several pairs of expensive boots. The male with the pistol appeared to be the lookout for the others. The four suspects exited the store in two cars, one red and the other metallic colored. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the robbery. Officers are currently following various leads.
