On the above date and time, Sand Creek officers located a stolen motor vehicle parked near the 3400 block of Afternoon Cir, facing south. When officers checked the vehicle they found a juvenile male suspect sleeping in the driver’s seat. Officers ordered the suspect out of the vehicle at which time he put the car in drive and fled the area heading south on Afternoon Cir. The suspect then turned west on Fountain Blvd and then north on Landmark Ln before striking a parked car. Officers attempted to pin the vehicle in at which time the suspect backed into a police vehicle. The suspect made a second attempt at fleeing and struck the same police vehicle a second time. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and arrested.

On 09/05/2017 at approximately 1:43 a.m., Officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to a home invasion in the 4400 block of Fenton Road. Information was obtained that multiple unknown suspects entered the victim's residence and held the victims at gunpoint while items of value were removed from the residence. One of the victims was able to exit the residence and go to a neighbor's residence to call the police. The suspect vehicle passed by officers as officers were arriving on scene. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled and responding officers pursued the vehicle. The pursuit was terminated. The suspect vehicle was eventually located but was unoccupied. A K9 track for the suspects yielded negative results. The victims did not sustain any injuries during the incident. The investigation is ongoing at the time of this ETACS entry.

On 09/04/17 at approximately 0311 hours, CSPD Officers were dispatched to an apartment community the 3000 block of Woodland Hills Drive reference a burglary in progress. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a suspect who had forced his way into an apartment and took the male into custody. Further investigation showed that this same male had forced his way into a second apartment as well. The residents inside each apartment were unharmed, and the male was later transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on burglary charges.

On the above date and time, officers from the Sand Creek Division were investigating a possible stolen motorcycle. During their investigation they came into contact with 35 year old John Bough. It was discovered that Bough was a convicted felon and was in possession of several firearms. While continuing their investigation, officers located what they believed to possibly be explosives. The Regional Explosives Unit was contacted and responded. Further investigation revealed that Bough was in possession of homemade explosive devices. ATF responded and will assume responsibility for the investigation.

On 09/02/2017 at approximately 10:34 PM the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call reference a pedestrian versus train accident at South Royer Street and East Las Vegas Street. Officers from the Gold Hill Division along with medical personnel responded to the area and located a male who had been struck by a west bound train. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train, with approximately 50 loaded coal cars had observed the male lying on the tracks and attempted to stop. The train was unable to stop prior to striking the male, causing him to suffer serious bodily injuries. The male was transported to a local area hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

On the above date and time, Officers from the Sand Creek Division were investigating a harassment between juveniles when they came into contact with an adult male who had a felony warrant for his arrest. The suspect, identified as Justin Hurst, was in an apartment and refused to comply with officers’ commands to exit. Containment was setup on the apartment and negotiations began with Hurst via telephone, as it was learned that there were also two children in the apartment. After negotiating for over an hour, the suspect agreed to exit the apartment. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. The children were returned safely to their mother.

At 11:10 AM on September 2, 2017, Stetson Hills Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Security Service Federal Credit Union at 5820 Barnes Road. Investigation determined an adult male presented a note to a teller and was subsequently provided an undisclosed amount of US currency. The male subject immediately left the business upon receiving the cash, and no employees or customers were physically harmed during the incident. At the above date and time CSPD officers responded to a fight in the 1400 block of Meadow Peak View. Approximately 40 people were reportedly involved. Multiple Gold Hill officers responded and most of the combatants had fled the area prior to officers arriving on scene.
The ensuing investigation identified several victims. Three people were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time and at least one arrest is anticipated.

Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Willow Tree Grove to investigate a report of shots fired. While officers were on the way they were advised that there was a victim who had been shot. Officers contacted this victim and he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Officers contacted several witnesses and learned that the victim had been at a party where a disturbance broke out. As the victim was trying to leave the party an unknown suspect began to shoot at him.
At this time there is no suspect information.

S Powers Blvd and Aeroplaza Dr

On the above date and time, officers of the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the intersection of Aeroplaza Dr. and Powers Bl. in regard to a single vehicle crash. Upon their arrival, they found a southbound vehicle had driven off the right side of the road and struck a traffic signal pole, knocking it down. The vehicle was occupied by two adult males. Fire rescue personnel were able to extricate the passenger of the vehicle and both he and the driver were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The passenger died as a result of his injuries a short time after arriving at the hospital.

The Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. It was determined that speed and drug usage are factors in this crash. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 25 year old David Huff, who was arrested for Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, and additional charges.

Due to the damage to the traffic signal, the intersection will be closed for the majority of the day. It is expected to be open to all lanes of traffic in the late afternoon.

This fatality is the 25th traffic related death in Colorado Springs this year. At this time in 2016, there were 20 traffic related fatalities.

At the above date and time, Sand Creek officers responded to a one vehicle traffic accident at Powers Blvd and Aeroplaza Dr. The driver was heading south on Powers and struck a traffic signal pole. Both driver and passenger were transported to a local Hospital for their injuries.

Powers Blvd is closed southbound from Airport Rd and northbound from Fountain Blvd.
