On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at approximately 2141 hours, Falcon officers responded to a call for service regarding a robbery at a business in the 800 block of Fillmore St. The suspects left on foot prior to officer arrival. Officers were dispatched to the scene and checked the area, but did not locate the suspects. The suspects were described as a Hispanic male, medium build, wearing a grey hoodie, blue pants and white shoes. Suspect two was described as a White male; thin build wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and a red bandana. Suspect three was described as a White male; thin build wearing a dark colored jacket, blue jeans and a black stocking cap. No weapons were mentioned or seen.

On February 28, 2016 at approximately 5:45 AM, Officer Eckert and Officer Barden contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 3800 block of Van Teylingen Drive, a defined DDACTS area. Officers contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle, Damon McDuffie. McDuffie had an outstanding felony warrant for burglary, assault, menacing, child abuse, harassment, and reckless endangerment. In addition to the warrant, McDuffie had a firearm in his waistband and a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, and prescription pills on his person. McDuffie was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Officers learned during an investigation that the resident, Thomas Chmielewski, was in the process of extracting marijuana concentrate utilizing butane when a significant explosion and subsequent fire occurred in the kitchen of the residence. Mr. Chmielewski was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

On the above date and time there was a single vehicle traffic accident at Hancock Expressway and Circle Dr. The driver was heading south on Hancock Expressway and failed to negotiate the curve just south of Circle Dr. The vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the creek just west of Hancock Expressway. The driver was transported to Memorial Central Hospital with serious but non-life threating injuries. This investigation determined that alcohol was a factor.

21st Street and Sheldon Ave
Location
On 02-25-16 at approximately 2125 hours, the Gold Hill Impact Team received information that an individual wanted for robbery, was in the area of 26th Street and Hwy 24. The Impact Team began checking the area and located the suspect near 21st Street and Sheldon Avenue. A warrant check was completed and the suspect was taken into custody on two felony robbery warrants and two misdemeanor warrants. The suspect, identified as Jason Paul Mauney(38), was transported to the Criminal Justice Center on the warrants and received an additional charge for possession of drug paraphernalia. The robbery warrants stemmed from two robbery cases that occurred late last year at the Wal-Mart Store at 707 South 8th Street. A female acquaintance, Jessica Kalal (41), was also taken into custody on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant and transported to the Criminal Justice Center.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of April 16, 2015 at 6:11PM due to road conditions. Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
