Location
Sand Creek Officers were dispatched to Academy Boulevard Liquors for an armed robbery in-progress. The store clerk was not at the counter and she was able to see the masked suspects enter the store with shotguns. The clerk locked the office door. Traffic Crash - Fatality
Title
Gold Camp Raod, .5 mile north of intersection with High Drive/North Cheyenne Canyon
Location
The CSPD Dispatch Center was contacted by a party who stated he was in an accident but was unsure of where he was. He noted he was driving up in the mountains, possibly Cheyenne Mountain. The party stated that he had rolled his vehicle and there was a female with him who was bleeding. The Emergency Response Tech continued to talk with this party in an attempt to identify his location. The party remembered turning on a road near Bear Creek. Officers were dispatched to the Bear Creek Park area to begin looking for this party. A second vehicle arrived at the accident location and reported to the dispatcher that they were on Gold Camp Road near tunnel number 2. Officers and medical responded to the area and located a white Toyota 4-Runner overturned on the road. One occupant of the vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle and had serious injuries. This party was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Major Accident Unit was called to respond to the scene and investigate the accident.

The investigation revealed that the male party and two female passengers were traveling west bound on Gold Camp Road, just past tunnel #2, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and up an embankment. This caused the vehicle to roll over coming to rest on the roadway. The deceased female was reportedly standing in the vehicle with her head out the sunroof at the time the vehicle rolled.

The second female passenger received only minor injuries and was released after being examined at a local hospital. The driver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time and was arrested. He was examined at the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver was identified as Tyler Jay Strandberg, a 24 year male who resides in Colorado Springs and is assigned out of Fort Carson. The charges against Mr. Strandberg include Vehicular Homicide and Driving under the influence. He will be booked into CJC.

The deceased female was identified as 22 year old Brittany Riffe of Colorado Springs. Family was present at the hospital.
