Officers responded to a report of a man down who had been assaulted. When officers arrived the man was unconscious. The victim is a homeless resident of Colorado Springs and was uncooperative in the investigation. It was determined the victim may have had his cell phone stolen.

The suspects in this case pepper sprayed the man and physically assaulted him by punching and kicking him causing minor injuries. The victim was transported to Penrose Hospital for treatment.

The suspects were possibly three white males driving a white Nissan Xterra.

An unidentified male was traveling on his bicycle north on N. Meade Ave, approaching Palmer Park. The bicyclist, going at a higher speed, disregarded the stop sign and attempted to cross Palmer Park. An East bound vehicle narrowly missed striking the bicyclist. The bicycle swerved to the east toward Columbia Street and was struck by a Westbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The bicyclist sustained life-threatening head and internal injuries, and was admitted to the ICU at a local hospital. The driver of the bicycle has not been identified. The investigation is continuing.

On June 8, 2014, at approximately 2135 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of N. Wood Avenue and W. Fillmore Street for a disturbance between a male and female involving a knife. Further information was received while officers were responding that the male attempted to stab the female with a knife inside an unknown apartment near N. Wood Avenue and W. Fillmore Street.

Officers located blood outside of an apartment located in the 2900 block of Concord Street. When officers entered the apartment, they located the female half of the disturbance in the living room area of the apartment. The male half was located inside of the bathroom of the apartment.

The investigation revealed the male suffered a laceration to his neck, after threatening to kill the female with the knife. The male was cut when the female pushed the knife backwards, into the male's neck, as he held the knife near her throat.

The 54 year old male was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for the laceration to his neck. The male was then transported to the Criminal Justice Center, where he was booked in for the charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Child Abuse, Third Degree Assault and Harassment. The male was identified as Ronald Gaskins.

On Saturday, 06/07/2014 Officer Brent Jacobsen 4162 was conducting traffic enforcement as a directed activity in support of the Sand Creek Patrol Division ‘Data Driven Approaches To Crime And Traffic Safety’ (DDACTS), directly impacting specific criminal activity and traffic accidents in that area. Officer Jacobsen initiated a traffic stop on Academy Blvd., near Academy Park Loop, when he observed a vehicle run a red light. The driver failed to provide proper identification, and as a result was detained. The driver was found to be in possession of a stolen .45 caliber firearm, 6.1 grams of Schedule II narcotics that were packaged for distribution and $3370.00 in U.S. currency, representing proceeds from the sale of illegal narcotics. The driver was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on several felony charges, and multiple traffic misdemeanor charges.

On Sunday, June 8th, 2014 at 12:42 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified by an alert citizen who observed two individuals climbing on the suspension crane at the construction site located at 1170 Interquest Parkway.

Upon officers arrival, two individuals were observed approximately 75 feet up, climbing down the crane. They were able to safely climb down and were detained.

Colorado Springs Fire Department Heavy Rescue responded to verify no other individuals were on the crane. No other persons were located.

The construction site supervisor responded and verified there was no damage or missing property.

The two individuals, Zach Yager and Jack Sohns were served and released on trespassing charges.

Officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the parking lot of Penrose Hospital. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male inside a vehicle with a suspected gunshot wound to the chest.

The investigation determined that the party had been in the parking lot for some time before being located. Evidence at the scene suggests that the injury was self inflicted while the party was in the parking lot. At this time, no evidence exists to indicate that this is a criminal act.

On 06/07/2014, at approximately 1:41 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call of a large fight in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant located at 1245 N. Academy Blvd. When officer arrived several groups of people scattered and fled the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant and the Hallasan Korean BBQ parking lot located just south at 1231 N. Academy Blvd. A witness indicated that there were several shots fired during the fight. Shell casing and blood were located in the rear parking lot of the Korean BBQ. . No victims or suspects were located. One subject fleeing the scene was contacted by police and arrested on unrelated drug charges. This incident is still being investigated. On the above date and time, Falcon officers were dispatched to O'Furry's restaurant in regard to a hit and run traffic accident. The investigation revealed the 23 year old suspect, identified as Matthew Schneider, was driving under the influence of alcohol and ran into an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot, then fled the scene. Officers were able to contact the male and he was arrested for the DUI and the hit and run charges. While processing him at the substation, the male intentionally flooded two holding cells, earning him additional charges of criminal mischief. He was later booked into CJC.

Detectives from the Special Victims Section responded and began their investigation. During their investigation detectives developed probable cause to arrest 55 year old Aniefiok Atakpo. On 06/06/2014 Mr. Atakpo was taken into custody as he was traveling in his vehicle near I-25 and N. Academy Blvd. He was charged with Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust.

On 6/6/2014 at approximately 9:45AM, Sand Creek CET Officers attempted to contact a suspect in a Motor Vehicle Theft who previously fled from Police. The investigation took Officers to 4610 Rusina Rd., the Days Inn Motel. As Officers arrived on scene, the suspect fled on foot. K9 Officer Browne was on scene to assist CET and deployed canine Blitz, who apprehended the fleeing suspect, identified as Christopher Marroquin. Mr. Marroquin was treated for injuries he sustained as a result from the canine contact and falling down while running from Officers. He was taken to CJC.
