Title
Pikes Peak Avenue an Circle Dr.
Location
On September 25, 2015 at 11:18PM, Sand Creek Officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress in the parking lot of a convenience store at Pikes Peak Ave. and Circle Dr. On arrival, the officers found a male victim, who had been pumping gas in front of the store when he was attacked by two male suspects. Statements were obtained from the victim and a citizen/good Samaritan, who witnessed the assault as he drove through the area. Their accounts are supported by video surveillance footage obtained from businesses in the area:

The victim was putting gas in his car with his back toward the store, when the two men exited the store and approached him from behind. One of the suspects, who outweighs the victim by about 100 pounds, punched the victim in the head. As the stunned man tried to back away from the suspect, the suspect continued to assault the victim while demanding his wallet and car keys. The second suspect joined in the attack and punched the victim several times, then kicked him in the head. The men were able to steal the victim's wallet and keys; before they had a chance to go to the man's car, a passerby saw what was happening and he drove his car to where the assault was occurring. As he did this, the two men ran away to the south, toward a nearby apartment complex. The responding patrol officers were able to determine a possible apartment number in the 2800 block of E. Pikes Peak Ave. The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was treated for cuts, contusions and a possible concussion. The full extent of his injuries are yet to be determined.

Detective Dabb, of the Robbery Unit, picked up the case and continued the investigation. On September 30th, he obtained a search warrant for the apartment on Pikes Peak Ave. Based on good quality video evidence and additional witness statements, detectives established probable cause for the arrest of two men: 21 year-old Shane Michael Villa, and Alex Liborio-Hernandez, also 21, were arrested as the left the apartment in a vehicle. The search of the apartment resulted in the recovery of critical evidence in the case. Both men are charged with Robbery, a class 4 felony.
