Sand Creek officers were dispatched to an apartment within the Bentley Commons Apartments to investigate a report of a deceased male. When officers arrived they found a deceased, 56 year old male inside one of the apartments.
Detectives from the violent crimes unit responded to assist with the investigation. At this time, the death appears to be accidental.
The El Paso County Coroner's office responded and took control of the body.

On Monday August 25th, 2014 approx. 9:31PM, officers of the Colorado Springs Police Dept responded to the area of 900 W. Woodmen Rd regarding a traffic accident. Officers determined the driver, later identified as Chad Coleman,possibly had a medical condition that contributed to the one car involved traffic accident involving a city utility pole. Coleman was the only occupant of the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the primary vehicle ran off the right side of the road striking a utility pole. The subsequent extensive damage caused to the pole affected up to 4 utility customers. As of this ETACS, it is unknown how long the affected customers will be without power. CS Utilities was notified and responded. They are currently attempting to address the affected customers. Coleman was served and released for associated traffic related charges. There were no other injuries as a result of this accident.

On 8/25/2014 a theft occurred at Burlington Coat Factory located at 750 Citadel Drive. The suspects fled with merchandise and fled the scene in a white van. Per witnesses, an occupant from inside the van, fired one round from a hand gun into the air. The suspect vehicle was located at 351 Gahart Drive. The entire four unit duplex was evacuated and it was determined the suspect in the felony menacing was in apartment #A. TEU responded, a search warrant and arrest warrant were obtained for the residence and gas was deployed into the residence. The suspect came out of the residence a short time later and was taken into custody.

On 08/25/14 members of the Colorado Springs Police Department Auto Theft Task Force and Colorado State Patrol were conducting a proactive deployment to locate stolen vehicles.

Auto Theft Task Force members located a stolen 2012 Nissan Maxima in the area of 3200 Austin Bluffs Pkwy and established surveillance on the vehicle.

Auto Theft Task Force members followed the vehicle to the area of 3500 North Academy Bl. and were able to take the suspect, identified as David N. Smith (57 YOA) into custody without incident.

During a search of the stolen vehicle detectives recovered 3.3 Grams of suspected crack cocaine and a small amount of powder cocaine.

OFF ACCIDENT ALERT STATUS-The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Accident Alert status as of August 25, 2014, at 6:00 PM due to road conditions and moderately severe weather. Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. Drivers can either pick up a traffic accident report form at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting. Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should check road and travel conditions before heading out and leave more time to get to their destination. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them. Drivers should use streets and roadways less hazardous in adverse weather driving conditions.

****ADDITIONAL UPDATE****

The investigation revealed that two vehicles were northbound on I-25 in the center lane, approaching the Cimarron St. exit; one following the other. While both vehicles were in motion, the second vehicle struck the rear of the first vehicle with its front. This caused the struck vehicle to lose control and to strike a second third vehicle that was northbound in the inside lane. None of the vehicle's occupants were seriously injured but the vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The driver of the vehicle who initiated the first contact was cited for Careless Driving.

08/25/14 at 0930 hours

I-25 has been fully re-opened but motorists are likely to continue experiencing delays while the flow of traffic returns to normal. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The suspect was described as a possible black male, 6'1 and approximately 190-200 lbs. He was wearing a black ski mask, dark zip up hoodie with a red t-shirt. There is no further description available.

The suspect in this investigation has been located and taken into custody. He has been identified as Michael Jonathan Ray, a 32 year old male from Georgia. Probable cause has been established for the charge of Murder in the First Degree.

The victim has been identified as Patrick Hampton, a 31 year old male from Tennessee. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will complete an autopsy on Mr. Hampton on Monday, August 25, 2014. The official cause and manner of death will be determined at that time.

Colorado Springs Police Department is not seeking any other suspects.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male in a parking lot who was suffering from several stab wounds. The male was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The major crimes unit is currently investigating the incident.

The suspect is a white male in his early thirties, 5’5” – 5’7” tall, 110 -130 pounds with sandy brown hair. He has multiple tattoos on his body which include dark colored circles on his shins, words on his knuckles and a band on one of his biceps. The suspect was last seen wearing multi-colored shorts and a red t-shirt. He should be considered dangerous.

On 8/23/14 at approximately 9:26PM officers were dispatched to the US Bank located at 1415 N Academy Blvd regarding a robbery that just occurred.

The victim pulled up to the night deposit box to deposit the days receipts from a nearby business. The suspect confronted the victim, pointing a gun at her demanding the money. The victim gave the suspect the deposit bag.

Another employee had followed the victim to the night deposit and witnessed the robbery. When he confronted the suspect, the suspect threatened him with the gun before running north from the area.

There were no injuries. Officers checked the area for the suspect and were not able to locate him.

The suspect was described as a dark skinned black male approximately 23 years old, 5'07 to 5'09 tall with a thin build last seen wearing a black hoodie, a red bandana over his face, black gloves, and black jeans.
