On August 2, 2014 at 1:42 AM the Colorado Springs Police Department discovered a crash occurred at the intersection of Galley Rd and N Chelton Rd. The crash involved a motorcycle and a vehicle in the intersection. The motorcycle rider died as a result of the crash. The Major Accident Unit responded for the investigation.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notifications. The intersection of Galley Rd and N Chelton Rd was closed for several hours during the investigation but is now open.

On 08/02/14 at approximately 0057 hours, officers from the Falcon Division were dispatched to 312 Mount View Ln to investigate an assault with a weapon. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim who was suffering from a single knife wound. The injury was not life threatening however the victim was transported to a local hospital. The suspect had also left the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The victim described the suspect as a white male, around 20 years old, wearing a black jacket and black pants and was driving a dark colored SUV. The investigation is continuing.

Adult suspect contacted what he thought was a 14 year old female via a mobile phone app. He sent a naked photo of himself, asking for naked photos of her. Suspect agreed to meet her at a westside coffee shop for sex. Suspect contacted her (who was actually and undercover detective)at the coffee shop, and was arrested. A search warrant was executed at the arrestee's residence and digital evidence was recovered.

I-25 and Garden of the Gods Rd
Location
Officers responded to a multiple vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer truck on I-25 just north of Garden of the Gods Rd.

The investigation determined that a vehicle possibly lost control on the wet roadway and spun out in traffic, ending up facing the wrong direction. Other traffic began to slow for the hazard when a tractor trailer struck a stopped pickup truck from behind. The pickup was pushed into a passenger car which was then pushed into a minivan. The car which had originally lost control then left the scene.

All of the vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. Two people were transported to the hospital. One person had a serious but non-life threatening injury.

The interstate was narrowed to one lane southbound for two hours while the crash was investigated and vehicles were removed.

No citations have been issued as of this time, as the investigation is continuing.

A Hit & Run accident occurred at Boulder St/Cascade Ave. The run vehicle was described as a green Chrysler. This same green Chrysler fled north on Cascade Ave where it came to a stop at Cache La Poudre St./N. Cascade Ave. The driver of the Chrysler was described as an Hispanic male, early 20's wearing all black. The driver got out of his vehicle and attempted to take two separate vehicles from their owners by force. The male suspect was unsuccessful. The suspect then fled westbound on foot on Cache La Poudre St. where he again attempted to take another vehicle. The suspect was successful this time and left the scene in a silver Chevrolet Impala with Utah license plate Y161-ZK. The suspect used physical force but no weapon. The victim of the carjacking was a 47 year old female. The victim did not suffer any injuries. Investigation is continuing.

A woman was placing the trash out at the curb of her residence for the weekly trash pick up when three Hispanic Males (NFI) suddenly exited an old red pick up truck and forced her at gunpoint to re-enter the residence. All three males forcibly removed household items and loaded them into the truck. The truck was then driven W/B onto Ansel Way. No arrests or injuries.

2500 Block of Payne Circle East

On 07/29/2014 officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to the 4400 block of Melville Dr. regarding a burglary in progress. Once on scene officers were able to determine the residence had in fact been burglarized. The owners of the residence were out of town on vacation.
Officers were contacted by neighbors who informed them they had video surveillance that captured the suspects leaving the residence with some of the stolen goods. Officers viewed the videos and were able to obtain descriptions of three suspects. Using the video surveillance and a social media page, officers were able to obtain the identity of all three suspects. Two of the suspects were arrested and a warrant was placed for the third suspect. All of the suspects were juveniles. Some of the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.

On 7/30/2014, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting an in-progress burglary in the 2500 block of Payne Cir. E. When the first officer arrived on scene, he observed the suspect on the property. The suspect fled and after a short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as the third suspect from the call for service identified above. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of 2nd Degree burglary and burglary of a motor vehicle.
A search warrant was obtained for a residence utilized by some of the suspects. Upon executing the search warrant, additional property stolen from the residence in the 4400 block of Melville Dr. was recovered. The investigation is on-going but the three suspects have been linked to multiple residential burglaries and burglaries of motor vehicles.

The third suspect is a 12 year old male.

The investigation is on-going.

On the above date and time, CSPD Gold Hill Division Officers were dispatched to an address in the 2100 block of W. Kiowa Street to a reported robbery with a weapon call for service. Upon arrival officers located both victims, one of whom was injured. The injured victim was medically treated at the scene.

The victims stated that they were in their detached garage that is accessed by the alley with the garage door open moving some property. An unknown male holding a black in color semi-automatic handgun entered the garage and ordered both victims to the ground. One of the victims complied. The other victim confronted the armed suspect and they fought in the garage. During the fight, the handgun was discharged twice. The armed suspect struck the victim with the handgun causing injury to the victim's head. The victim then made his way out of the garage where he observed a second unknown male. The injured victim ran from the scene and contacted someone in the neighborhood to call 911. The suspects left the scene in an unknown direction.

The suspects did not make any demands or take anything from the scene. Two shell casings were recovered in the garage.

The first suspect was described as a black male, 26-30 years old, 6-02 to 6-04 tall, medium build wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with a red bandana covering his face and black pants.

The other suspect was described as a white male, unknown age, 5-04 tall, stocky build wearing a Carolina blue hooded sweatshirt and an unknown color bandana covering his face and dark colored pants.

Through extensive follow-up investigation, detectives from COMMIT identified the suspect in this case, 31 year old Gregory Barnes. The investigation led detectives to the 300 block of Murray Boulevard, where Mr. Barnes was ultimately arrested. Two other people were arrested on unrelated outstanding arrest warrants.

On 07/30/2014 at 11:22 hours, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified by several citizens of shots being fired in the area of the Shannon Glen Apartments, 200 block of N. Murray Blvd. Witnesses observed a male in the parking lot area armed with a rifle, shooting rounds toward a dark colored sedan, as the sedan was traveling east towards Murray Blvd. The shooter eventually entered a dark SUV which travelled south on Murray Blvd. Officers recovered several shell casings from the scene consistent with a rifle.

Officers were not able to identify the dark sedan or its occupants. There are no known victims at this time. No property damage was found as a result of the shooting.

The suspect is described as a black male, early to mid-20’s, athletic build, with short braided hair, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.

Officers responded to a one car traffic accident where a vehicle struck a light pole near Circle Dr. and Carlsbad Dr. The driver then drove away from the scene. Officer Carnes located the suspect vehicle in the 2800 block of Airport Rd and conducted a traffic stop. During a pat down search Officer Carnes located an empty holster under the driver's shirt. Officers recovered two handguns from the vehicle, one of which had been stolen out of California. They also recovered 22.5 g of methamphetamine,126 g of marijuana, other prescription drugs, a large amount of cash and other items consistent with distrobution of narcotics. ATF Task Force Officers responded to assist and helped with interviews and the preparation of a search warrant for the suspect's residence which resulted in the recovery of a shot gun and rifle as well as a bullet proof vest. Investigation also revealed that the suspect was driving under the influence of drugs. The suspect had previously been found guilty of felony charges. The suspect was taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and booked on numerous traffic, narcotic and weapons charges.
