UPDATE:
Xyrjah Goldston, a 21 year old female was arrested for vehicular homicide-reckless and vehicular assault-reckless.

The deceased victim is identified as 5 year old Isahaq Hameed. His Father was injured in the accident and is still in serious condition at a local hospital. Both Isahaq and his Father were walking on the sidewalk when they struck. Speed is a factor in this accident.


CSPD is investigating a single car accident in the area of Murray and Bijou. It appears to be an accident involving a single car and pedestrians. The accident resulted in serious bodily injury SBI. Investigators with the Major Accident Unit have responded to the scene.

The roadway is closed from south bound Platte at Murray Blvd. Closed at North bound Murray at Lionstone and the intersection of Murray and Bijou is closed in all directions.

Both Murray Blvd. and Bijou Street were opened around 11:05 PM. The major Accident Unit is continuing their investigation and an arrest is pending.

All lanes of northbound S. Academy Blvd are open as of 2:20 AM.
The Major Accident Unit is conducting this investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 40 year old male was crossing S. Academy Blvd just south of El Morro Road when he was struck by a vehicle that was travelling northbound. The male pedestrian was crossing the street at an area that was very dark, and not at a crosswalk. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at scene and cooperated with the investigation.

All north bound lanes of Academy Bl at Astrozon Bl. are closed due to the investigation of a traffic accident. The lanes should re-open in the next few hours.

Stetson Hills Division officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Potter Drive reference a robbery with a weapon. Upon arrival the responding officerís made contact with the alleged victim. Limited cooperation and limited suspect information was obtained from the victim. The unknown suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction after taking a laptop from the victim at gunpoint as he stood in the parking lot of his apartment. The area was checked but the suspect was not located. No victim injuries were reported, no suspect vehicle was observed.

On July 7, 2014 an unknown male suspect robbed the Harrison District 2 Credit Union at 1060 Harrison Rd. Gold Hill officers and Robbery Unit detectives responded to the scene. The suspect approached a teller and demanded cash, while threatening to shoot her if she did not comply. No weapons were seen. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic female in her 20's, 5'4", thin build with dark shoulder length hair or wig. She was seen running from the building and getting into a tan Honda four-door which left in an unknown direction.

On 07/07/14 at approximately 0924 hours, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Gold Hill Division were dispatched to 420 N. Nevada Ave. to investigate an assault in progress. The investigation revealed that on this date at approximately 0800 hours, the male suspect, Matthew Grace (a 23 year old resident of Colorado Springs), went into the church to use the common area portions of the building. Just prior to the police being contacted, a 65 year old male employee (victim) asked the Mr. Grace to leave the building but he refused. The victim then went about the process of escorting Mr. Grace from the building, during which the two became involved in a physical altercation. As a result of the altercation, the victim sustained a non-life threatening injury that required treatment at an area medical facility. After the altercation, Mr. Grace fled the scene but he was contacted and arrested several hours later by Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and Downtown Area Response Team (DART) Officers. Given the significance of the victimís injuries, representatives from the Major Crimes - Assault Team and the Metro Crime Lab responded to assist with the investigation. Charges against Mr. Grace are pending.

A structure fire was reported in the 600 block of East Boulder Street at 5:08 AM. As a result, Boulder Street will be closed at El Paso Street to Farrs Court. El Paso Street is also closed from Platte Avenue to Boulder Street. All media inquiries should be directed to the Colorado Springs Fire Department Public Information Officer for additional information.

Update: as of 6:45 AM, westbound Boulder Street is open, eastbound still has the right lane closed. El Paso Street is fully open. Caution is advised if you travel Boulder Street until all fire and related personnel have cleared the area.

On July 6th, 2014 at 12:25 AM, Falcon Division Officers were dispatched to the Portal Park pool, 3535 N. Hancock Avenue, regarding a robbery that just occurred.

The investigation revealed the victims were inside of their vehicle when the suspect forced entry into the occupied vehicle and demanded money from them.

The suspect left in a dark colored 4 door sedan last seen in the area of 2nd Street and Virginia Avenue. The suspect is described as a balck male in his 20's, 6-00 tall wearing a light colored t-shirt and shorts.

Update: As of 07-06-14, approx. 3:10AM, the intersection at Academy Blvd and Union Blvd is open. The traffic accident that resulted in the road closure is still ongoing. Further information will be released by the CSPD Major Accident Unit pending final investigation.

As of July 5th, 2014 at 11:50 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Accident Unit is investigating a fatal traffic accident near the intersection of N. Academy Bl and N. Union Bl.

Currently, southbound N. Academy Bl from N. Union to Flintridge is closed to through traffic. The roadway will be closed until further notice.

200 block of Swope Ave.
Location
On Saturday, 07-05-2014, at 2:41PM, Sand Creek Division officers responded to a report of a suicidal female in the 200 block of Swope Avenue. Responding officers were advised the female was armed with a knife and was holding it to her throat.

Upon arrival, officers observed a female with a knife to her throat in the 200 block of Swope Avenue. Officers saw the female cut herself with the knife, at which point the female dropped the knife and charged at officers while holding an unknown object in her hand.

Officers deployed a less-lethal impact weapon, which stopped the female's advance. As the female did not drop the object in her hand, officers deployed a Conducted Energy Device (Taser) and took the female into custody without further incident.

As a result of significant restraint by responding officers, the female sustained only minor self-inflicted injury, and no citizens or officers were hurt.

***UPDATE: The arrested female was identified as 27 year old Kandyce Vessey.***
