Powers is open to through traffic in all directions as of 5:03PM.

On the above date and time CSPD received a call of a two motorcycle crash in the 400 block of Powers Bl. Investigation revealed the two motorcycles were traveling at a high rate of speed southbound, possibly racing, when they struck the center median. Both motorcycles crashed into the northbound lanes of traffic. Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries and the investigation is continuing at this time. Powers Bl is shut down southbound at E Platte Ave and northbound at Airport Rd. Drivers are advised to use a different route until the roadway is opened to through traffic again.

On Sunday January 24th, officers from the Stetson Hills Division responded to the 4400 block of Burton Way on the report of an accidental discharge of a firearm. Investigation revealed that the suspect mishandled his 9mm handgun and a round discharged. The round entered an adjacent apartment in the complex. No injuries were reported. The suspect was cited for Discharge of a Firearm and Reckless Endangerment.

On the above date and time officers of the CSPD were notified of a traffic accident where a pedestrian was struck and killed. The vehicle involved left the scene. The pedestrian's identification is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.

Investigation revealed a possible vehicle involved is a light colored vehicle. At this time the vehicle has not been located.

CSPD requests that any witnesses who have not been contacted by police please call 444-7000 to be interviewed.

On 01/23/2016 at 8:34pm CSPD Officers were dispatched to Penrose Main Hospital to contact a stabbing victim that had checked himself in. The victim, an adult Hispanic male stated that at approximately 7pm he was in the area of North Nevada Avenue and Mount View Lane when he was approached by two suspects. He described one of the suspects as a black male, wearing a black bandana over his face with a black jacket and blue jeans. The other suspect was described as an unknown race male wearing a black zip up hoodie with a skull zipped up over his face.

The victim reported the suspects demanded money from him at which time he was stabbed twice in the chest. The victim reported they possibly took his wallet and a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot.

The victim was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Nunez was located by CC security at the 700 block of S. Weber. CSPD was notified at 0630 hours on 01/23/2016. Mr. Nunez was in good health.


CC student Mr. Emelio Nunez was attending a Colorado College event at the Antlers Hotel this evening when he got separated from his group. Mr. Nunez was heavily intoxicated and he called his dad to tell him he was lost. Campus security along with several CSPD officers checked around campus for Mr. Nunez. Around 0200 Mr. Nunez was able to face time a friend on his cell and it appeared Mr. Nunez was inside a business lobby (unk which business). An attempt was made to ping Mr. Nunez cell phone and the last known location was near Gillette/Royer. Officers checked that area but did not locate anyone. Mr. Nunez is a W/M, 6'0" tall with medium length brown hair. Last seen wearing a blue blazer, black/white dress shirt, dark pants. If located please contact CC security at 719-389-6707.

In the evening of January 21st, a busy mother was cooking supper for her family when the third floor apartment became smoky. She opened all the screened windows and began ventilating the home. Her 3 year-old was busy playing with toys in one room when she stepped into another room. She heard a metallic rattling sound and returned to find her little boy pushing a screen open and falling out the very low window. He fell to a patch of dirt below. The toddler was rushed to a local hospital and was being treated for bumps and bruises. Preliminarily, the matter is considered an accident.

In response to the request for information disseminated earlier in the day, a concerned citizen contacted our department on 01/21/16 at approximately 5:00PM to report the location of three month old Trevek Vialpando. Officers from the Gold Hill Division were subsequently dispatched to an address in the 1000 block of Rice Drive to aid in the recovery of the child. Upon arrival, Trevek was located safe / healthy and he was turned over to the custody of DHS. At the time of this writing, Trevek’s father, Trevek Vialpando Senior, has not been located or arrested for his active warrant. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the police department at 719-444-7000.

On 01/21/16, at approximately 1240 pm, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call of a subject walking with a handgun and pointing it at buildings near Filmore St. and Arcadia St. The subject was described as a thin black male wearing a black hoodie jacket. The caller later believed that the male was firing the handgun. Officers arrived in the area and detained a juvenile male matching the description of the suspect. Officer Brian Kelly and K9 Broc responded to the scene and conducted a search for the handgun. An airsoft handgun, resembling a real handgun, was located where the suspect was detained. The suspect was later released to his parent.

At approximately 2:11AM on 01/21/16, an adult female driver of a Chevy Impala was traveling west on the 100 block of W. Cheyenne Road. While doing so, she failed to negotiate the curve in the road and struck a street sign at the intersection of W. Cheyenne Road at its intersection with Woodburn Street. After striking the street sign, the vehicle continued traveling west on the sidewalk and then struck a wood utility/power pole shattering it at its base subsequently causing some of the electrical wires associated with the pole to break. Power in the immediate area was lost and City Utilities responded to the scene to address the damage to the utility/power pole and power outage caused by the accident. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for outstanding warrants and was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. Nobody was injured in the accident.

On 01/20/16 CSPD responded to the intersection of Uintah and Institute in reference to a traffic accident involving an ambulance.

The investigation revealed that an AMR ambulance was travelling eastbound on Uintah with it's lights and siren activated, when it was struck on the driver side rear section by a vehicle that ran the stop sign at Institute and Uintah as it was travelling southbound. The force of the impact spun the ambulance in a counter clockwise direction and it flipped on its side.

The ambulance did not have a patient in it. The driver of the vehicle and two AMR employees were transported to the hospital for evaluation. All were released. The driver of the vehicle, Marvin Brown was evaluated and arrested on DUI and other traffic charges.
