At the above date and time the CSPD Communications Section received a call regarding a single vehicle motorcycle crash in the 800 block of North Tejon St. Upon arrival officers discovered 2 people had been involved in the crash, a 33 year old male driver and a 44 year old female passenger. Both were transported from the scene via ambulance for medical evaluations and treatment. Both suffered serious bodily injury (SBI) and both are expected to survive. MAU was contacted and responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Charges are pending.

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, approximately 10:15 AM, Harold West voluntarily turned himself in to EPSO Deputies at the El Paso County Courthouse, and was subsequently transported to CJC to be held on the aforementioned warrant.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 700 Chapman Drive on a possible shooting. Investigation revealed that a disturbance took place between two male parties. A 25 year old male was assaulted by two male suspects and shot at by one of the suspects. The victim was not shot and suffered minor injury as a result of the assault. Officers are attempting to identify suspects. So far the information given is that suspect #1 is a black male, 5'10", dreadlocks, LSW black shirt and unknown color pants. Suspect#2 was described as a black male,short, bald, LSW red shirt, white or black shorts, glasses. Investigation is continuing.

Beginning in November 2015 members of the Sand Creek Investigations Metal Theft Detectives Ryan Jacobsen and Dennis Mallett noticed a pattern of burglaries occurring along Platte Place all the way over to Tia Juana and Gunnison Street in the Sand Creek Division. Metal Theft Detectives noticed that in each of these cases a suspect was cutting holes in the chain link fence of a business, entering the yard, and in some cases entering the business and taking metal which was being scrapped for money. Through follow up investigation a suspect, Daniel Brock, was identified. Metal Theft Detectives concluded their investigation on 05/11/2016 with the execution of an Arrest Warrant for Brock and a Search Warrant where Mr. Brock was living. Brock was taken into custody without incident. During this investigation it was determined that Mr. Brock was responsible for $5,000.00 in damages to businesses and nearly $10,000.00 in stolen property. This investigation involved 19 cases. Mr. Brock has been charged with Second Degree Burglary, Third Degree Burglary, Trespassing, Criminal Mischief and Theft.

On the above date and time, Gold Hill Officers were dispatched to an assault in progress in the 1400 block of Harrison Road. Upon arrival, a victim was located with significant, but non-life threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by the suspect while a passenger in a vehicle driving north on I-25. The victim was able to flee the vehicle when it exited I-25 and run to a restaurant where police and medical personnel were called. During the investigation a search warrant and an arrest warrant was obtained. The arrest warrant was obtained for 30 year old Laquinton Eckles for Second Degree Assault who has been unable to be located at the time of this entry.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Robbery Unit is currently investigating at least three cases involving small business owners who were followed home after closing their businesses during the late evening. In two of these cases, the victims were robbed inside their garages before they could close the garage door or get inside their house. In the third case, a young man rang their doorbell after the victim believed she was followed home.

All of the victims are Asian or of Asian descent.

All of the businesses are located in the southeast part of Colorado Springs (Sand Creek Division).

The attacks began on April 22nd, with the most recent occurring on May 7th. The times of occurrence range from 11:00PM to 1:00AM.

The suspects have been described as black males, 20 – 30 years of age, about 5’08” tall, medium build. In one case there were three suspects, one of whom might have been white or Hispanic. In all of the cases, they were armed with handguns; thus far, no one has been injured.

Business owners are asked to be especially vigilant for suspicious activity in and around their stores and restaurants. If any unusual or alarming activity is observed, they are asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000. In case of emergency, dial 911.

On 05/11/16, at approximately 1:37AM, a male called to report that he was had been stabbed in the shoulder and was bleeding. The male reported that he was on the 100 block of E. Platte Ave. Officers located the male at this location where he reported that he was stabbed by a white female after he refused to have sex with her. The male was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening stab wound to his shoulder.

During the month of April 2016 Detectives Jim Strachan and Jason Armes began to notice a pattern of burglaries taking place at local storage unit facilities around town. During the follow up a suspect, Keith Carroll, was identified. During subsequent follow up and investigation detectives learned that Carroll was responsible for at least fifteen cases involving burglaries of storage units with over fifty total victims. While talking to a witness detectives were able to observe as Carrol committed one such burglary. After having completed the burglary Carroll was taken into custody and charged. To date Detectives Strachan and Armes, along with the help of Sand Creek Investigations, have completed and served 5 different search warrants in an attempt to recover victim’s stolen property. During the investigation it appears as though Carroll was targeting antique items to take and sell to collectors around town. Also during the investigation Carroll’s girlfriend Meghan Dresel was arrested and charged for Possession of a Controlled substance. Additional charges and or arrests are anticipated.
