On December 21, 2016, the Colorado Springs Police Department released information regarding an emerging pattern of pharmacy robberies and requested assistance from the public with information on the identity, location and any associated vehicles related to the unknown suspect. Since then, there have been two more pharmacy robberies and evidence suggests the same suspect is responsible. Still armed with a handgun, but dressed in all dark clothing with dark sunglasses and a beanie cap, the suspect committed his robberies in the 2400 block of North Union Boulevard and the 2300 block of North Wahsatch Avenue. Surveillance cameras captured the attached images.

December 21, 2016 [Release at Will]

The Colorado Springs Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance regarding the identity, location, and associated vehicle(s) of a subject responsible for three drug store robberies. Armed with a handgun and dressed in a hardhat and reflective vest, the subject entered and robbed the Medicine Shoppe at 2471 North Union Boulevard on November 22, 2016, and the Village Pharmacy at 3277 West Carefree Circle on December 5, 2016.

Each robbery occurred near the lunch hour and the subject was carrying a black bag. In the early evening of December 20, 2016, the subject also robbed the Medicine Shoppe at 3159 West Colorado Avenue, wearing an orange Colorado stocking cap and carrying an orange lunch box.

Update: The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, has made two arrests in the death investigation related to the 6300 block of La Plata Peak Drive and the 6100 block of Barnes road.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has completed the autopsy on the deceased male who was found in the 6100 block of Barnes Road on February 6, 2017. The male has been identified as 28 year old Colorado Springs resident Manuel L. Vigil. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested two persons in connection with the death of Manuel L. Vigil and the shooting of another. They are identified as 23 year old William Prine, arrested for murder in the first degree, and 27 year old Matthew Houston, arrested for complicity to murder in the first degree. Both are residents of Colorado Springs. The arrestees’ photos will be posted on Twitter when available.

This is the sixth homicide of 2017. Last year at this time there were no homicides in Colorado Springs.

February 6, 2017 [Release at Will]

On February 6, 2017, at approximately 4:48 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 6300 block of La Plata Peak Drive, regarding multiple shots fired. When officers arrived in the area, they received additional information that a vehicle, described as a pick-up truck had been shot at, and was no longer on scene.

The Communications Center immediately aired the vehicle description, where it was located by officers a short time later in the 6100 block of Barnes Road. As officers approached the pick-up truck, they discovered two males inside the vehicle, one male was deceased with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, and another male appeared to be wounded from a single gunshot. He was transported to a local hospital.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. This is an active investigation. At this time there is no danger to the public.

An El Paso County Grand Jury has indicted twelve individuals on charges of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and various other charges including burglary, theft, criminal mischief, money laundering and computer crimes for their involvement in a multi-state cell phone theft ring and fencing operation.

The indictment covers a series of burglaries that occurred throughout Colorado and New Mexico between June 29 and August 10, 2015 involving a total of twenty-five cell phone stores and over $325,000.00 in merchandise.

On January 12, 2017, the Grand Jury handed down a 79 count indictment against twelve individuals, two of whom were juveniles at the time of their alleged offenses. The indictment alleges that the defendants worked together to break into twenty-five cell phone stores in Colorado and New Mexico and steal primarily cell phones during those burglaries. It is further alleged that the cell phones were then resold to unsuspecting customers through E-bay and other means by CT Electronics and GT Electronics.

The indicted individuals include Carlos Trejo, 31, Halat Gozeh, 21, Erric Carolina, 35, Antivius Crowder, 23, Isaiah Pickett, 21, Dominic Daniels, 22, Demetrius Jefferson, 24, Elyce Schmidt, 21, Cameron Sprenger, 22, Devante Hunter, 25, and two juveniles. All of the indicted individuals are from Colorado Springs except Cameron Sprenger who is from Ft. Collins. They have all been arrested and most are currently in custody in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on bonds ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.

The Colorado Springs Police Department led this greater than year-long investigation and were assisted by investigators from the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office, police departments in Greeley, Loveland, Aurora, Arvada, Castle Rock, Littleton, Lakewood, Pueblo, Lone Tree, Golden, Thornton, and Albuquerque, New Mexico and sheriff’s offices from Jefferson County and Arapahoe County.

Please remember that these charges are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

UPDATE: February 6, 2017 {Release at Will}

Working with the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Analytical Support Unit, detectives from the Violent Crimes Section identified 23 year old Khalil Sanders as a suspect in the February 2, 2017, shooting on Dublin Boulevard. Sanders was contacted by detectives on February 3, 2017, at which time he was detained, and subsequently arrested for possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Further investigation into the shooting developed probable cause for presentation of an arrest warrant into the shooting case, and on February 6, 2017, an arrest warrant citing First Degree Assault was issued. The warrant was served upon Sanders at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center where he was still being held on the weapons charge.

February 6, 2017 {Release at Will}

On February 2, 2017, at approximately 2:49 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a 911 call from an individual stating she had been shot by an unknown subject who was in a vehicle behind her while driving westbound in the 1300 block of Dublin Boulevard. When officers arrived, the caller was found to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her back. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section, Assault Unit, responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. Through a collaborative effort involving Patrol Officers, Detectives, and Crime Analysts, a person of interest in the shooting has been identified. Investigation into this incident continues, but appears to be the result of an isolated road rage incident. This is an active investigation.

On 2-6-17, Officers were dispatched to robbery with a weapon that occurred at the above listed address. Upon arrival in the area they contacted the clerk who advised that 4 or 5 suspects entered the store with weapons and demanded money and product from the store. The suspects then left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The clerk was not hurt during the incident. This incident is possibly linked to the earlier robbery in the Falcon Division. Investigation is ongoing.

On 02-06-2017 at approximately 0327 hours, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call from a convenience store in the 2200 block of Research Parkway. The reporting party was the store clerk who said he had been robbed by four unknown individuals at gunpoint. At least one of the suspects was armed with a shotgun. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and other retail items.
The suspects appeared to arrive on foot; however they took the store clerk’s key and got away in his vehicle. The RP’s vehicle was a silver colored late model Mazda 3 with an unknown temp tag.
There were no injuries reported during this incident.

Update **The victims vehicle was recovered in the area of the robbery**

All roads open at 0620hrs.

On the above date and time, a fully marked CSPD police car was travelling southbound on Nevada Ave at the intersection with Pikes Peak Ave. A truck was travelling east on Pikes Peak Ave and struck the police car.

The officer was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. No one in the truck was injured.

The driver of the truck, 22 year old Whitney Huskin was evaluated for DUI.

The intersection remains closed while the investigation is completed.

As of 02/05/17 at 0115 hrs, all lanes of traffic are open.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian attempted to cross Academy Bl outside of a crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital and was treated for serious but not life threatening injuries. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the vehicle. The driver was not cited.

On 02/04/2017, at approximately 2249 hours, officers were dispatched to an injury traffic accident on N. Academy Boulevard, south of Woodmen Road. A vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The northbound lanes of N. Academy Boulevard are closed at the intersection with York Road. It is unknown how long the traffic lanes will be closed for the investigation. Use alternative routes until the investigation is completed.

On February 4, 2017, the Colorado Springs Fire and Police Departments responded to the 800 block of Santa Fe Street on a reported motor home fire. Upon arrival, firefighters report the motor home was fully engulfed in fire. While fire suppression was in progress, firefighters discovered a deceased male inside the motor home.
