On 08/30/2015 at approximately 10:29 PM Officers of the Gold Hill Division responded to the 4U Motel located at 1102 South Nevada Ave in regards to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival they discovered an adult male victim who had been struck on the head with a hammer. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted for treatment and is expected to survive his injuries.
Detectives from the Special Victims and Violent Crimes sections responded to assist and the investigation led to the arrest of:
Monica Cain, 45 Year Old Female of Colorado Springs.
Mrs. Cain, upon completion of her processing, will be booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on a charge of Assault in the First Degree / Domestic Violence Related – no further arrests are anticipated at this time.

1400 N. Academy Blvd
Location
Officers responded to the area of Academy Blvd just south of Palmer Park Blvd with reference to a serious injury vehicle crash. A total of eight injured persons were transported to local hospitals from the two different cars. One of the drivers is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and an arrest is likely. Vehicle speed will also be listed as a factor and at least one passenger that was significantly injured was not wearing a seatbelt. Any persons that witnessed the crash or saw and can identify the make and or model of vehicles speeding in the area and in the southbound lanes of N. Academy Blvd at intersection with Constitution Ave, Palmer Park Blvd or San Miguel at approximately 10:43 PM are urged to call 719-444-7000. The investigation is on-going. Members of the Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and they are managing the case. Southbound traffic on Academy was effected for an extended amount of time as the crash was being investigated. ****UPDATE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**** As of 3:15 AM, it is anticipated that the southbound lanes of travel on Academy Blvd south of Palmer Park will be affected until after 4:00 AM. Additionally a total of five persons received significant injuries during the accident.****UPDATED INFORMATION****The southbound lanes of Academy are open as of 5:15AM. An adult male was arrested for vehicular assault.

3181 Dublin Blvd

Officers were dispatched to a private residence in the 3100 block of Dublin Blvd reference to a suicidal person. The reporting person provided information to police that a family member at the location and was suffering from some sort of mental or medical episode and was in need of assistance. Officers responded to the location and telephonically contacted the occupant of the residence to simply check his welfare and provide mental or medical health services. Officers reached thirty one year old James Bell of Colorado Springs. While still inside of the residence; Mr. Bell said that he was suicidal and homicidal and was armed with multiple weapons and would shoot anyone who approached. At one point Mr. Bell willingly exited the residence but then refused to adhere to or follow the lawfully issued verbal commands of the officers. Bell was subdued and subsequently arrested for obstructing police officers. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for multiple arrest related injuries and would later be booked into the Criminal Justice Center on misdemeanor obstruction charges.

On the above date and time, Colorado Springs Police Department officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to a business in the 3700 block of Verde Drive to a reported robbery with a weapon call for service.

Officers arrived within minutes and were unable to locate the suspect that left the business on foot. The investigation revealed that one suspect entered the store and contacted an employee at the cash register. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. The employee said that there was no cash and the suspect immediately ran out of the store empty handed. The suspect was armed with a handgun. There were no shots fired and no injuries reported.

The suspect was described as an approximately 30 year old Hispanic male, approximately 5-07, 160 pounds wearing a blue and white shirt with tan shorts.

Iowa Avenue and E. Cache La Poudre Street
Location
At approximately 1213 hours, on 08/30/2015, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Iowa Avenue and E. Cache La Poudre Street for an injury traffic accident involving a motorcycle. A gold colored sedan driving north on Iowa struck a motorcycle driving eastbound on E. Cache La Poudre Street and fled the scene. The driver on the motorcycle suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Both rider and passenger are being treated at a local hospital. The Major Accident Unit responded to the scene of the accident to conduct the investigation. The entire intersection will be shut down while the investigation is completed.

The on-scene investigation is complete. Both Cache La Poudre and Iowa were opened to traffic at 5:00 PM.
******The vehicle that fled the scene has been identified as an early 2000’s model gold or tan Buick Regal with damage on its left front corner. *****

I-25 @ Cimarron St

On 08/29/15, at approximately 1825 hours, Officer’s from the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a single vehicle traffic accident involving a motorcycle on I-25 at Cimarron Street. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were both transported to a local hospital for injuries received as a result of the crash. It is unknown at this point in the investigation whether the driver or passenger suffered any serious bodily injuries. The interstate remains closed in all lanes of travel southbound I-25 at Bijou Street. The investigation remains ongoing.

Update: The motorcycle passenger sustained injuries determined to be serious bodily injury, not suspected to be life threatening at this time. The Colorado Springs Police Department Major Accident Unit (MAU) was notified and responded to the scene. All lanes from I-25 at E. Bijou Street southbound remain closed.

All lanes of traffic reopened at 10:55PM. The driver, later identified as Robert AHERN was arrested for Vehicular Assault (Felony) and DUI. He was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for booking.

This is an update to ETACS 21872 which read as follows:
The Colorado Springs Police were notified of a shots fired call for service in the 3300 block of Cochran Drive. Several citizens called to report at least two gun shots being fired in the area. Several CSPD Officers responded and contacted several individuals outside, in the 3300 block of Cochran Drive. Officers were able to identify a residence that had been shot. No one inside residence was harmed. The CSPD Gang Unit responded and is assisting in attempting to identify a suspect. At this point in the investigation no arrests have been made. Suspects may have been known to the victims.

UPDATE:
Detective Mork with the Gang Unit was assigned the case for follow-up. The investigation led to the arrest of three adult males for Attempted Murder on August 27, 2015. The three adults were identified as Wilson Rosario Lopez (22), Kody Ayal (19) and Jason Reyes (19). Detective Mork was able to make the arrests with the assistance of the Sand Creek Impact Team, K-9 and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday, August 28, 2015 Sand Creek Impact Officer B. Felice received information that a local gang member was scheduled to arrive in the 2700 block of E. Platte Avenue to conduct a narcotics transaction. The Sand Creek Impact Team and members from the Gang Unit began conducting surveillance in the area a short time later. The suspect was a seventeen year old Hispanic male, a confirmed ‘South Side Soldados’ gang member, who arrived shortly thereafter. Upon Police contact the suspect fled on foot, but was apprehended without incident a short time later. The suspect was placed in custody for an unrelated felony warrant, a local felony complaint for narcotics, and for possession of schedule II narcotics. The suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, hashish, marijuana, and one additional unknown substance, as well as U.S. currency believed to be proceeds from previous narcotics transactions. The suspect was booked into the Spring Creek Juvenile Detention Center at the conclusion of the investigation.

On Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 at approx. 6:30pm, an AMR Ambulance was enroute to a call and was travelling with lights and siren activated at the intersection of Academy Blvd. and Austin Bluffs Parkway. Witnesses affirmed the ambulance had slowed at the intersection and waited for traffic to stop and then had began to proceed through the intersection when a silver sedan travelling west on Austin Bluffs reached the intersection and failed to stop, colliding with the ambulance in the intersection. There were no significant injuries. The driver of the sedan was cited for careless driving resulting in an accident and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

I-25 N/B at N. Academy Exit Ramp

On 08/28/2015, at approximately 1836 hours, Sgt. Wrede was exiting N/B I-25 at North Academy Bl. when he was flagged down by a male on the side of the exit ramp standing next to a minivan. When Sgt. Wrede approached the man he said his wife was having a baby. Sgt. Wrede looked in the front seat and observed a female in active labor. At the same time a bystander stopped and asked if she could help. The bystander happened to be Dr. Miller, a Pediatrician with Children’s Hospital in Pittsburg, who was visiting her daughter for Parents Week at the Air Force Academy. Sgt. Wrede happily accepted Dr. Millers help. At approximately 1839 hours, baby Katriana was born in the front seat of the family’s minivan. Mother and baby were tended to by Dr. Miller until medical personnel arrived on scene. Mother and baby were transported to a local hospital. The parents were identified as Marc Hermanson and Amanda Evanson.
