On January 21 at approximately 12:40PM the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call about a shooting. Upon arrival officers found a male had sustained a gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. Officers with the Sand Creek division later contacted a female involved in the incident. Detectives with the Domestic Violence Unit responded and later arrested the female for attempted first degree murder. The female was identified as Breanna Lark (23). Ms. Lark was booked into the Criminal Justice Center.

On 01/20/17 at approximately 2230 hours, the CSPD Communications Center was contacted by EPSO reference the discovery of a possible meth lab in the 7600 block of N. Marksheffel Road. CSPD Officers responded and located a possible meth lab with drug precursors present. There were no individuals contacted at the scene. Detectives from the MVNI Unit and EPSO Hazmat responded and took over the investigation.

At approximately 4:24 PM on January 20, 2017, at least one unknown suspect forced entry into a residence in the 2800 block of W. Serendipity Circle through a garden level glass patio door. A resident of the home went to check on the noise when he confronted an unknown subject on the stairwell from the main living area to the basement. The unknown suspect fired several rounds from a handgun during the confrontation, and the resident suffered a non-life-threatening wound for which he was subsequently treated. The suspect fled the residence on foot, and a check of the area met with negative results.

1100 block of E Verde Dr

On 1/19/17 officers from the Gold Hill Division were dispatched to Memorial Hospital, 1400 E Boulder, regarding a shooting victim that had arrived at the hospital.

The victim, a 29 year old male, was walking in the 1100 block of Verde Dr around 6:20PM when he had a verbal confrontation with the occupants of a vehicle driving by. The suspect got out of the vehicle to confront the victim. The suspect pulled a gun, pointing it at the victim. The victim reached for the gun and was shot in the hand. The suspect got back in the car and left. The victim walked home where a family member drove him to the hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male, early 20's, wearing a black beanie. The vehicle he was a passenger in was described as a newer white hatchback, possibly a volkswagon, with blue halogen headlights.

The victim sustained serious non life threatening injuries and is still being treated at the hospital.

On January 19, 2017, the El Paso County Coronerís Office completed the autopsy on the deceased adult male who was found in the 200 block of North Wahsatch Avenue, on January 19, 2017. The deceased male has been identified as 37 year old Donald Wayne Russell. Mr. Russell was a resident of Colorado Springs. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide. This continues to be an active investigation.

This is the fifth homicide of 2017. The City of Colorado Springs had no homicides at this time last year.

On January 19, 2017, at approximately 6:49 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 200 block of North Wahsatch Avenue regarding a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an adult male with obvious trauma from a gunshot wound. The male was transported by medical personnel to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. This is an active investigation. There is no danger to the public.

Colorado Springs Police Department will be hosting a training academy to recruit volunteer Victim Advocates.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Victim Advocacy Unit (VAU) Volunteer Program enables volunteers to gain insight into our criminal justice system and gain knowledge of the many community resources available to crime victims. Volunteers are rewarded by helping those in need and by developing professional skills and specialized networking opportunities. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with police officers, detectives, and other emergency personnel to assist victims with their needs. For information on the Victim Advocacy Unit:

The 2017 VAU Volunteer Training Academy which starts on March 8, 2017 includes 64 hours of training given over a seven week period with classes held on Monday and Wednesday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. Participants will be trained in victim advocacy skills including crisis intervention, community resources, and Victim Advocacy Unit operations. Students will also gain a general understanding on the various units and functions of the Colorado Springs Police Department. In conjunction with the academy, on-the-job training is provided to those volunteers recruited to the unit.

To become a CSPD Volunteer Victim Advocate and to enroll in the VAU Volunteer Training Academy, please complete an on-line application at www.springscaps.org or contact the CAPS Volunteer Coordinator, Kathy Rowlands, at 719-444-7441. All applicants are required to complete a criminal background check and polygraph prior to the enrollment in the training academy.

On 01-18-2017 at approximately 0354 hours, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service for a robbery involving a weapon a local convenience store located in the 6400 block of Source Center Pt. Investigation revealed multiple suspects entered the business, displayed a weapon, demanded cash, stole cigarettes and liquor before fleeing on foot. The suspects were described as unknown race males who were all wearing masks. There were no injuries reported and there have been no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing and the suspects appear to be the same ones involved in an earlier robbery this morning.

On 011717/8:18PM, Parole officers were at a mobile home at 5150 Airport Rd. to check on a parolee,35 year-old Michael Powell. When they made contact with him, they noted he had two pistols on the roof of the car he was working on at the time. With the guns was suspected methamphetamine. One of the pistols, a Ruger 9mm, was reported stolen through CSPD in September of 2016. CSPD was requested to assist and responded to the scene. VNI was notified and a detective responded. The suspected drug tested positive for "meth," and weighed over 100 grams.

On January 16, 2017, the FBI Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force with the assistance of Sand Creek patrol officers arrested Erwin Boswell, B/M, 24, near Airport Road and University Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Boswell was wanted on multiple felony warrants, including Escape from a Felony Conviction. Boswell was arrested and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
