Title
Stratton Open Space
Location
On Tuesday January 27th at approximately 1:10 PM the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to a reported large brush fire in the area of Stratton Open Space. Firefighters responded promptly to contain the blaze. Once the fire was contained, it was quickly determined that the fire was human caused. Fire inspectors and arson detectives were requested. CSFD fire investigators determined the origin of the fire, and Colorado Springs Police Detectives from the newly formed bomb/arson unit were able to determine that the fire was set by a juvenile.
This case highlights the capabilities of the recently created bomb/arson unit. In January of 2015 the Colorado Springs Police Department and Colorado Springs Fire Department entered into a joint venture to investigate arson related crimes. CSFD investigators routinely determine origin and cause of fires. The newly created bomb/arson unit is comprised of CSPD bomb technicians and arson detectives. This unit investigates any suspicious or apparent incendiary fires, as well as explosives related incidents. The new unit leverages the unique expertise of both departments and their respective disciplines, and is a remarkable example of combining resources to better serve our community.

Arrest
Title
800 Mt. Werner Circle
Location
On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, detectives from the CSPD Robbery Unit arrested Damien Lewis, 27, outside his home in southwest Colorado Springs. Lewis was apprehended after an arrest warrant was obtained for him, following a lengthy investigation into a bank robbery last year. On September 23, 2014, the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 4151 N. Academy Blvd. was robbed by two masked men, who escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Since that time, investigators have worked diligently to develop leads and recover evidence. This is the second arrest for this robbery; on November 19, detectives charged Quinterrius Lundy, 29, for his involvement in the same holdup. Lundy was in El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on separate charges at that time, and he remains there. Detectives are still actively investigating other robberies believed to be connected to this case.
