On 09/18/17 a customer at the Water Works Carwash was waiting for his vehicle. A suspect approached an employee of the carwash and advised the worker that the vehicle belonged to him and he was in a hurry. The suspect then jumped in the vehicle, a black Infinity SUV and left the area. As the suspect was fleeing the area he struck a vehicle that was legally parked by the new protected bike lane on S. Weber St. The suspect continued to drive northbound but the vehicle was too damaged to be driven any further. The suspect then fled on foot, last seen heading westbound through a business. Suspect was described as a Hispanic or white male, 5’7” medium build. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a green hat. Witnesses stated the suspect was bleeding from his face. Officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. No other parties were injured as a result of the accident.

On 09/17/17 Officer J. Scott was in the parking lot of Jersey Mike’s, located in the 500 block of S. 8th St. Officer Scott received a hit that a vehicle in the parking lot was stolen. Officer Scott began following the vehicle airing the direction of travel to responding officers. Officers located the vehicle in a townhome parking lot just south of the Gold Hill Mesa community. Officers observed 3 parties exiting the vehicle and upon contact the driver fled the area on foot. 2 of the parties were detained and a perimeter was set up. A K-9 track was conducted and the driver was located in the Gold Hill Mesa area. The driver was identified as Matthew Myers a 22 year old male and he was charged with motor vehicle theft. Chase Cordova a 21 year old male and passenger in the car was served and released on the charge of criminal possession of a financial device. The third passenger was identified and released.

On September 17, 2017 officers from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region requested assistance from the Colorado Springs Police Department in executing a search warrant to seize a dangerous pit bull which was located inside of an apartment at the Palmer Park Apartments in the 1200 block of E. San Miguel St. The pit bull had been involved in numerous incidents where it was unrestrained and had attacked other dogs around the apartment complex. During one incident the pit bull had bitten another dog owner on the hand during an attempt to keep the pit bull from attacking his dog. The tenants of the apartment had ignored and avoided multiple contact attempts by the Humane Society officers.

At approximately 6:20 PM officers from the Stetson Hills Division responded along with the Humane Society officers to execute the search warrant. The occupants of the apartment also ignored and did not comply with CSPD officer’s commands to exit the apartment. Forced entry was made and five adults were located inside the apartment along with two dogs, one of which was the wanted pit bull. The pit bull resisted but was successfully seized by the Humane Society officers using their restraint equipment and did not appear to be injured. No injuries to involved officers or citizens were reported.

The two tenants of the apartments were served and released for Obstructing a Police Officer. One of the tenants was also charged with Unlawful Ownership of a Dangerous Animal. The pit bull remains in the custody of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

On Sunday, 09/17/2017 at 2:04pm, the Colorado Springs Police Department Dispatch Center received notification that a bank had just been robbed. The US Bank, located at 9225 N. Union Blvd., inside the King Soopers was robbed for an undisclosed amount of cash. The lone unknown race male entered the bank and produced a note demanding cash. The teller gave the suspect cash and he exited the bank. He was last scene on foot inside the King Soopers. Robbery detectives were paged out and responded to assume the investigation.

On 09/16/2017 at approximately 08:20PM the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of Castle Road. Officer Rogers had this same vehicle flee from her two days prior when she attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Officer Rogers and Officer Anderson responded to where the vehicle was located and attempted to contact the driver. Upon initial contact with the vehicle, officers observed the suspect Kyle Becker climb out of the trunk, but quickly go back into the trunk when he observed officers by his vehicle. K9 Officer Mann along with his partner Maverick responded to assist with arresting Mr. Becker for his Felony Eluding charge. Mr. Becker was eventually removed from the trunk of the vehicle, at which time he fled on foot. Mr. Becker was then apprehended by K9 Maverick. Mr. Becker was transported to the hospital before he was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for Felony Eluding and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

On 9/16/17 at approximately 1840 hours, officers from Falcon Division were dispatched to the Grandview Hospital on Pulpit Peak View in reference to a shooting. The investigation revealed that a group of workers were passing around a gun when the owner racked the slide of the gun and pulled the trigger. The bullet struck a coworker in the foot causing serious bodily injury. Elijah Albert was arrested for First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing and transported to CJC.

On 09/16/17 at approximately 1235 hours Stetson Hills and Sand Creek Officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Excalibur Ct. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim who said that he was carrying his .40 caliber Glock as he got into his parked vehicle. He went to holster the gun in a firearms holster attached to the seat and did not realize his finger was on the trigger. The gun went off and the bullet struck his right upper leg and he was transported to the hospital for non life threatening injuries.

On the above date and time the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a traffic crash on southbound Interstate 25, south of Uintah St. Responding officers found the passenger in the vehicle had suffered fatal injuries. The Major Accident Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

The investigation revealed a white Toyota Corolla had run off the right side of the road and struck the retaining wall on the west side of the road and eventually the base of the pedestrian bridge over the interstate. As a result of this collision, the passenger of the vehicle died. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs and was subsequently arrested for vehicular homicide, as well as DUI.

This is the 28th traffic related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year there were 20 traffic related fatalities.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed this accident or has information pertinent to the investigation to please call 444-7000 with that information.

All southbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 25 were reopened at approximately 8:30 AM.

On the above date and time CSPD was dispatched to southbound I-25, south of Uintah, to investigate a single car traffic accident. The passenger suffered fatal injuries and the driver was arrested for DUI. S/B on ramp from Uintah onto I-25 is closed as well as the right two lanes of I-25 between Uintah and Bijou.
The arrestee was identified as 21 year old Joseph Robert Felon from Texas.

On Friday, Sept. 15, an adult male victim was walking along Murray Blvd. near the intersection with San Miguel St. when he was approached by two male suspects, described as a Black male, 6ft tall, thin with a gray hoodie and a bandana over his face and a Hispanic male, 5'05", heavy, with dark clothing and a bandana over his face. The male suspects demanded the victim's personal items. The victim initially fought with the suspects, but the Black male suspect pulled out a black handgun and the suspects then took several personal items from the victim, then left the area in a silver car, possibly a Honda Civic. The victim was not seriously injured and had no further description of the suspects.
