On 07-24-2017, at approximately 0130 hours, Sand Creek officers attempted to contact a stolen vehicle that was parked in the 200 Block of North Corona Street. The driver of the vehicle rammed two police cruisers in an attempt to evade capture. The driver exited the vehicle as Police Canine Ozzie arrived on scene. Upon hearing warnings to not run or the dog would be released, the suspect surrendered without incident. Neither officers nor the suspect were injured in the incident.

On Sunday afternoon, CSPD officers observed a vehicle with stolen plates out of Centennial, Colorado, in a parking lot, near Circle and Platte. When the patrolmen attempted to make contact with the Silver GMC diesel pickup and driver, the truck was driven into one of the officer's cruisers and a vehicular pursuit began. Officers chased the pickup through central Colorado Springs. A clothes dryer fell out of the bed of the GMC in the 2400 block of Lark as the vehicle fled from officers. The driver evaded officers and was last seen in the area of the Palmer Park.

On 07/23/2017 at 11:20 AM members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Falcon Division was dispatched to a possible deceased person lying in the field to the south of Fillmore and El Paso St. Upon officers arrival the body of a deceased individual was located in the field. Due to the nature of the discovery members of the Violent Crimes Homicide Unit responded to assess the scene. After their arrival the El Paso County Coronerís Office responded to the scene and took possession of the body. At this time it is unclear if the death is suspicious until further tests and or examination of the body can be completed. There is not believed to be any danger to the public at this time.

On the above date and time, officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to 1800 Zebulon Dr. to investigate a reported traffic accident in which a child was run over. Investigation revealed an adult female, identified as Yvette Vigil, parked and exited her vehicle, taking the keys with her and leaving two juveniles in the vehicle. A four year old child then moved to the driverís seat and put the vehicle into neutral, allowing the car to start rolling backward. After striking an unattended trailer, the child jumped out of the vehicle and her leg was run over by one of the vehicleís tires. The vehicle came to rest a short time later. The child received minor injuries. It was learned that the vehicle had a mechanical failure that allowed it to be put into gear without the key being in the ignition. This failure was known by Vigil. Vigil was served and released on a summons for Child Abuse.

On the above date and time, officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to an apartment in the 2900 block of Airport Rd to attempt to contact a wanted party identified as Cory Swim. Officers made contact with an adult female identified as Swimís mother. She was evasive with the officers then disappeared into a back room and refused to speak with the officers. Containment was setup around the apartment and Officer Waters continued to attempt verbal contact with the parties from the front door. The woman came out of the back room and confirmed that Swim was in the back room, but refused to exit the residence. She attempted to get Swimto give himself up but Swim refused. Officer Waters continued verbal negotiations from the front door. After approximately 30 minutes, Swim surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

On July 21, 2017, at approximately 7:58PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 6000 block of Fossil Drive regarding a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a male deceased inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. In addition, a second male was discovered with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The second subject was transported to a local hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. This is an active criminal investigation. All individuals are accounted for. There is no threat to the community.

At the above date and time the CSPD communications section received a call regarding a subject who had possibly fired a handgun while driving on I-25.

Officers located the suspect vehicle in the 2400 block of West Cucharras St and detained the driver, a 36 year old male, without incident. A weapon was recovered from inside the vehicle and the driver was ultimately charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender and several other misdemeanor charges. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded to assist with the investigation.

On July 20th at approximately 2300 hours officers were dispatched to a call for service in the 6100 block of Barnes Rd. regarding a rollover traffic accident in a parking lot. Investigation showed the driver of the truck, a 21 year old male, was driving the truck carelessly in the parking lot. The driver, later identified as Matthew Miller, fled the scene after the truck crashed, rolling onto the passengerís side. The passenger, a 21 year old male, was thrown from the vehicle and sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released at an area hospital. Miller was later contacted at another location, and served and released on numerous traffic related charges. Alcohol is suspected to be factor in this crash.

700 S. Corona Shooks Run Creek

On July 20, 2017 at approximately 2308 hrs. Colorado Springs Police Department and the Colorado Springs fire department were notified of a call for service in the area of 700 S. Corona St. regarding an explosion and a fire. Upon arrival officers and fire personal located an approximately 20' x 20' grass and debris fire near the Shooks Run creek, just to the east of the train tracks near the area of 700 S. Corona St. The preliminary investigation revealed a transient camp located in this area. It appears as if the fire was started by a camping stove that overheated causing two small propane canisters to explode. Officers and CSFD personnel checked the surrounding area for signs of injured people and no one was found. Witnesses on scene did not see any anyone in the area. Area hospitals were notified and no persons of interest have been identified at this time.
