UPDATE: The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit obtained an arrest warrant for 27 year old Gilberto Chavez, Jr., a resident of Colorado Springs, for the September 15, 2018, murder of Army Captain Daniel Chamberlain Lehman. Chavez, who was in custody at the Criminal Justice Center on an unrelated case, was charged with First Degree Murder. Captain Lehmanís body was found in the 400 block of East Costilla Street.

There will be no additional release of information today, as this continues to be an active investigation. Follow Twitter for photo.

The El Paso County Coronerís Office has identified the deceased male who was found on September 15, 2018, in the 400 block of East Costilla Street as Daniel Chamberlain Lehman, 28 years of age and a resident of Colorado Springs.

Mr. Lehmanís death is the 23rd homicide investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department in 2018. The City of Colorado Springs had 21 homicides at this time last year. This continues to be an active investigation.

On September 15, 2018, at approximately 7:14 AM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the area of East Costilla Street and South Wahsatch Avenue on a reported found body. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, with no signs of life. The Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed the on-scene death.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. This death is being investigated as suspicious and continues to be an active investigation. Follow Twitter for updates, as appropriate.

On 10/11/18 Falcon officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 2500 block of E. Woodmen for a robbery with a weapon. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect entered the store around 10:15PM and demanded money from the register while pointing a gun at the two clerks. The suspect then left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported, no suspect located.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Internet Crimes Against Children Unit is actively investigating a 59 year old Colorado Springs Fire Department employee.

On October 10, 2018, detectives arrested Robert Patrick Stambaugh without incident. He is charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Child, CRS 18-6-403, a Class 3 Felony, and will be booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center with no bond. Stambaugh has been employed by the Colorado Springs Fire Department since 1986 and is currently assigned as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

There will be no additional information released at this time, as this investigation continues to be active. Photograph will be released on Twitter after publication.

2700 Block of Flintridge Circle
Location
UPDATE: On October 6, 2018, at approximately 8:22 PM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 2700 block of Flintridge Circle on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male on the rear patio of an enclosed back yard with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso.

Violent Crimes Section detectives found the subject was attempting to gain entry into the residence when he was confronted by a resident of the home. The confrontation led to the resident firing one round at the subject. Although immediate medical attention was sought, the subject succumbed to his injuries.

At the time of the occurrence, the subject was found to be in possession of confirmed stolen items from an unrelated incident.

Upon completion of the investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Section, this case will be presented to the District Attorneyís Office for review.

The El Paso County Coronerís Office has identified the deceased male who was shot on October 6, 2018, in the 2700 block of Flintridge Circle as Houston Malachai Cookson, 30 years of age and a resident of Colorado Springs.

Location
At approximately 12:40 am on 10-10-2018, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for a suspicious person in the 700 block of E. Costilla. According to the reporting party, an unidentified male was in their front yard screaming obscenities and it looked as though he was stabbing a soda can with a screwdriver or a knife. When one of the occupants came out of the home to tell the suspect to leave their property, the suspect began yelling obscenities and threats to the resident.

When officers arrived on scene they made contact with the suspect (later identified as Stephen Arellano) and began to give the suspect verbal commands to get down onto the ground. The suspect was non-compliant and threatened officers on scene. Using less lethal tools, the suspect was taken into custody and subsequently transported to the El Paso County Jail on misdemeanor charges.

300 block of West Uintah Street
Location
A 2015 gold Chevrolet Malibu was left running at a convenience store at approximately 5:53AM. A suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and left the area in the stolen car. At approximately 11AM, the Malibu was observed by officers in the down town area driving at a high rate speed and struck a parked vehicle near a high school. The driver of the Malibu continued but returned into the area passing other officers who were responding to the area. Officers did not pursuit the vehicle. The vehicle was then observed east bound leaving the down town area. At approximately 11:30AM, the Malibu was involved in a second traffic accident and had become disabled at Astrozon and Academy Boulevard. The driver of the Malibu fled on foot and was located and arrested in the 2300 block of South Academy Boulevard. The driver was identified and found to be an escapee from the Division of Youth Corrections. Additionally, the driver was positively identified in an earlier motor vehicle theft on October 8, 2018 when he eluded the police in another stolen vehicle. The suspect was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for multiple cases.

This should be a reminder to all vehicle owners not to leave their vehicles running unattended.

On October 6, 2018, at approximately 8:22 PM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 2700 block of Flintridge Circle on a reported attempted burglary/shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The Colorado Springs Fire Department along with AMR arrived on scene and immediately transported the subject to a local hospital. The subject sustained critical injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this criminal investigation. On 10/6/18, at approximately 0046hrs, Sand Creek Officers were notified of an assault that occurred in the 1800 block of Carmel Dr. While on scene officers observed the suspect who fled the scene. Officers gave chase but lost sight of the suspect when he ran into a backyard. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was treated on scene for a facial laceration.
