Officers were dispatched to investigate a trespassing complaint in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue. Before officers arrived on scene information was updated the suspect had entered another business in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue and was behaving bizarrely. An officer contacted Mr. Butler refused to comply with the officerís directions and became physically combative with the officer. During the officerís struggle to arrest the suspect the officer was injured. Additional officers arrived on scene and they were able to place Mr. Butler into custody.

The Victim stated that an unknown race male suspect entered the store brandished a weapon and demanded money. The Victim stated the suspect then fled the area in a vehicle headed south bound on Murray Boulevard. At this time the suspect has not been located and the investigation is ongoing.

Colorado Avenue near Cimino Drive
Location
On February 14, 2019, the El Paso County Coronerís Office identified the pedestrian who was killed in the traffic crash near the intersection of Colorado Avenue and Cimino Drive as Mitchal Holloway, 21 years of age and a resident of Colorado Springs. Mr. Holloway is the sixth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, there were six traffic-related fatalities in the city.

On February 13, 2019, at approximately 10:21 PM, a Colorado Springs Police Department sergeant discovered an adult male in the roadway near the intersection of Colorado Avenue and Cimino Drive. The Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR responded and transported Mr. Holloway to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Departmentís Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. Detectives determined the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. While first arriving officers were still on the scene, a vehicle with two female occupants returned to the crash location.

During the investigation, it was discovered the vehicle which returned, a Hyundai sedan driven by Destany Cardenas, was traveling westbound on Colorado Avenue when it struck the male who was in the roadway in the westbound lane. Neither occupant of the vehicle was injured. The driver, Destany Cardenas, 21 years of age, was arrested for Vehicular Homicide and Driving Under the Influence. Follow Twitter for photograph.

4300 Carefree Circle North

Officers from the Stetson Hills Division were dispatched to the intersection of Carefree Circle North and Scenic Circle reference to a one car traffic crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2004 GMC Envoy SUV was seen eastbound on Carefree allegedly speeding and driving erratically prior to drifting off of the roadway. The car struck the south curb-line, rolled over, then crashed into the rear of a legally parked pick-up truck. The driver was a twenty eight year old female who is a springs resident. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected out of the passenger side window of her car. Excessive speed and alcohol were a factor. Witnesses reported seeing six concerned citizens in the area providing assistance because the vehicle landed on the drivers head. These Good Samaritans miraculously lifted the car off of the woman and provided aid until emergency medical technicians arrived. The driver was listed as being in stable condition at a local hospital. Several of the persons that provided assistance were identified and will be acknowledged by the department at a later time. Eastbound traffic on Carefree was restricted until 8:20 PM.

2500 block E San Miguel

On 02/12/2019, at approximately 10:50pm, Officers from the Falcon Division were searching for wanted Homicide suspects in the area of Union and Constitution when they located them inside a white SUV.

Officers attempted a stop of the vehicle but it fled. Officers were able to identify the driver as a female with multiple Felony Warrants including Attempted Homicide. A male passenger in the vehicle also had multiple Felony Warrants to include Attempted Homicide.

Officers pursued the vehicle which eventually crashed in the 3500 block of east San Miguel St. Both suspects ran from the vehicle and the female suspect was caught on scene. K-9 was used to do a track for the suspect but he was gone from the area. Investigation is on-going.

328 E. Platte Ave Seven Eleven

Officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Seven Eleven store at 328 E. Platte Ave. Upon arrival contact was made with multiple store clerks and multiple concerned citizens that were at the location and had detained the suspect that tried to rob the business. The suspect brandished a weapon in his waistband and demanded cash but was subdued by a clerk and the three citizens. Officers recovered the weapon that turned out to be a pellet gun. The suspect attempted to get away from officers but was subdued a second time and was taken into custody. The arrestee was 32 year old Michael W. Neal of Colorado Springs. He was treated and released from a local hospital and was taken to CJC afterwards where he will have to post bond for the robbery and for resisting arrest and interference with officers.

On 2/12/19 at approximately 3:05PM SRO D. Grimmett was made aware of a Safe2Tell tip regarding a student threatening to bring a gun to school the following day. The student who made the threat was identified and contacted by D11 Security and SRO Grimmett.

The student admitted to making threatening statements; however, it was determined the student had no access to any type of weapons. The student was issued a summons and released to a parent.

District 11 Security as well as other school personnel are aware of the incident. Steps were taken to insure a safe school environment. There is no danger to students or the school at this time.

On Monday, 02/11/2019 at approximately 0259 hours, officers with the Stetson Hills division were dispatched to the 3900 block of East San Miguel Street regarding a burglary in progress. During the investigation, it was learned that a male party unlawfully entered the home, hid in a closet and when discovered by the residents, a disturbance occurred. The intruder was held down by the residents until officers arrived. The male party, Dylan Johnson, was arrested for burglary.
