On 6/26/2017 at approximately 0158 hours, the CSPD Communications Center was notified of interior burglar alarm activations at Chuck E. Cheese’s, 5156 N. Academy Bl. While Officer were responding to the scene, another alarm activation was received from inside the business. Upon Officers arrival an individual was seen inside the business. Contact was made with the managers of Chuck E. Cheese’s who confirmed there should be nobody in the business. Multiple officers responded, including K-9 Units, and established a perimeter around the business. While waiting for the manager of Chuck E. Cheese’s to respond, officers were informed of a roof hatch alarm activation at the Target store, 5240 N. Academy Bl. Officers were able to see someone on the roof of Target therefore the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to assist officers in gaining access to the shopping centers roof. After an extensive search of the roofs of multiple businesses, a lone adult white male suspect was found hiding inside a vent on the roof of Target. With the assistance of CSFD the vent cover was removed and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Confirmation of the suspects’ identity is still pending. Further investigation revealed the suspect caused a significant amount of property damage to the interior of Chuck E. Cheese’s and to the roof Target.

On 6/25/17 at 11:00 AM the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call reference a pedestrian versus train accident at Bijou and I-25. Responding officers and medical personnel found a deceased female had been struck by a south bound train. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train, 110 cars hauling coal, had attempted to stop and alert the woman on the tracks but the train could not stop in time.

BNSF is completing its internal procedures and the proper notifications have been made.

Officers were dispatched to a rollover traffic accident at the intersection of Bennett Ave/ E. Uintah St. Upon arrival officers found one car rolled on its side and two passengers had to be extricated out of the vehicle. The investigation revealed that a red Volvo failed to yield after stopping at the stop sign on Southbound Bennett Ave. The Volvo continued through the intersection and struck a blue Toyota Camry that was driving eastbound on Uintah St. and had the right of way. Mr. Robert Smith (89 years old) and Mrs. Norma Smith suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the accident. The driver of the red Volvo was cited for Failure to Yield after stopping. Speed and alcohol were not factors in this accident.

On 06/24/2017 at approximately 5:01 AM the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service of a shooting in the 200 block of North Murray Boulevard. Officers arrived on scene and located two individuals engaged in a physical altercation on the east side of the roadway. The victim immediately advised officers that the suspect attempted to rob him and then shot him. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries due to multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect was detained and a handgun was recovered. The suspect and the victim were transported to a local hospital for treatment. At the time of this ETACS entry the investigation is still ongoing.

At 12:27 AM on June 24, 2017, Officers from the Gold Hill area command responded to the 1500 block of S. Nevada Avenue on the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, contact was made with a 21 year old female suffering a non-life-threatening wound to her left forearm, and a 26 year old male suffering a potentially life-threatening wound to his torso. Both parties were transported to a local medical facility where they are being treated for their wounds. Investigation at the scene indicates the male victim may have engaged in a verbal confrontation with several unknown subjects, and both victims subsequently suffered wounds when the female victim attempted to pull the male victim from the altercation. Suspects left the area prior to officer arrival and the investigation is currently active and on-going.

On 06/23/17, Gold Hill officers were dispatched to Starbucks, located in the 1400 block of S. Nevada Ave to investigate a reported shooting. The victim walked into Starbucks with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The victim’s injuries are reported to be non-life threatening. Officers checked the area and were able to locate 3 possible suspects related to the shooting. The investigation is still on going.

Update: At 8:03 PM an arrest warrant was issued for suspect Corky Lee Oliver (30YOA) who was positively identified through independent witness statements. Oliver was one of three suspects initially detained by the responding patrol officers. Investigation is on-going.

Officer Mork witnessed one vehicle chasing another east on Monterey Rd and located the victims in the parking lot at El Vecino apartments a few minutes later. His investigation determined that the suspect fired two shots at a victim in the parking lot after the victim exited her car. The suspect had fled the area but Officer Mork was able to determine the suspect's identity. The suspect vehicle was located in the 2800 block of West Bijou Street around 1:00 PM and several officers conducted a high risk traffic stop. One occupant was arrested for Attempted murder, illegal weapons, and drugs. The other 3 occupants were not involved in the earlier shooting, but were arrested for drug possession. A few hours later officers located the shooter, and he was also arrested.

On 6-22-17 at approximately 10: 15 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received an anonymous tip about a male party at this location, who was currently wanted for felony menacing. The unknown tipster stated the party was a Mr. Brandon Cline DOB 11-27-90 and that he might be armed with a handgun. Officers Zahrobsky and Emmer arrived on scene and learned that Mr. Cline was still in the business. K-9 Officer's Ford and Keller also responded to assist. Mr. Cline was seen exiting the business and proceeded to walk south through the parking lot. K-9 Officer Ford made the initial contact, he gave Mr. Cline a lawful order, but Mr. Cline elected to flee in an effort to avoid being apprehended. K-9 Officer Ford started a foot pursuit. The other police personnel joined in this pursuit and during the chase K-9 Officer Ford was injured. K-9 Officer Ford was transported to the hospital and was later released. Officer Zahrobsky was able to apprehend Mr. Cline inside this business. Mr. Cline was taken into custody without any further problems. Mr. Cline was found to be in possession of two handguns and narcotics. Mr. Cline was taken into custody on the original felony menacing charge along with numerous other charges stemming from today’s incident.

On the above date and time, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a single vehicle crash near the intersection of Melissa Dr. and Paseo Rd.

The driver, 76 year old James Burns of Colorado Springs, was transported to an area hospital where he later died. The Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into this incident.

Investigation revealed Mr. Burns was southbound on Melissa Dr. when he veered off the right side of the road, jumped the sidewalk, and struck a tree. At this time alcohol, drugs, and speed are not considered factors in this crash.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking that anyone who may have witnessed this event to call 444-7000.

The road was reopened at approximately 12:30 PM.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017 a semi-truck carrying a 45,000 pound piece of paving equipment was south bound in the 11000 block of highway 83. The piece of equipment was not properly secured, and slid off of the trailer. The tractor trailer and equipment came to an uncontrolled point of rest in the southbound lanes of highway 83. South bound traffic was diverted for approximately three hours while heavy equipment worked at the scene to remove the machinery from the roadway. There were no injuries reported and the equipment was removed without incident. The driver of the semi-truck was cited for operating the vehicle with an unsecure load.
