Lorne C. Kramer is appointed Chief of Police in April 1991.


1992 - Neighborhood Traffic Unit - This Unit works with citizens to identify and resolve traffic safety issues.

1992 - Metro Crime Lab Established

 

 

 

 

 


1993 - Air Support Unit Established


1999 - Digital Mug Shot - Digital Mug Shot storage system is used to identify persons arrested and booked into the Criminal Justice system.


2001 - ETACS (Enhanced Tactical Communications System) replaces the paper based daily occurrence sheets with a web based system which provides real time data to all CSPD personnel. The system reduced dissemination time and enhanced communications within the Department.


2002 - Deputy Chief Luis Velez is promoted to the position of Police Chief. Chief Velez is the first Hispanic Chief for the Colorado Springs Police Department.

June 14, 2004 - Stetson Hills Division is opened at 4110 Tutt Blvd serving the Northeast population of the city with an estimated 118,843 citizens.

March 6, 2006 - Gold Hills Division is opened at 955 West Moreno Ave serving the Southwest population of the city with an estimated 103,264 citizens.

Richard W. Myers is sworn in as Chief of Police for the Colorado Springs Police Department on January 12, 2007.

February 22, 2008 - Alicia “Tish” Olszewski became the second female in the history of the Colorado Springs Police Department to be promoted to the highest Civil Service rank of Commander.

July 13, 2008 - Lt. Fletcher Howard is promoted to the rank of Commander. He is the first African American Commander for the Colorado Springs Police Department.
