FYIMED GAS SYSTEMS These requirements shall apply to all facilities described in Section 3006.1 of the 2009 International Fire Code, as amended. **The requirements of NFPA 99 current edition will apply to all piped Med Gas Systems, including Oxygen, Nitrogen Oxides, Waste Gas, Medical Air and Vacuum based on their LEVEL Designation (1, 2 or 3) as defined by NFPA 99 current edition. All Med Gas (piped) systems shall be installed and maintained in accordance with all applicable provisions of 2009 International Fire Code Chapters 27 (Hazardous Materials), 30 (Compressed Gases) and 40 (Oxidizers). **Oxidizing Cryogenic fluids shall comply with IFC 2009 Chapter 32 and NFPA 55. **All Med Gas (piped) systems that utilize a source of commonly located compressed gas cylinders as shall have all cylinders, related manifolding and electronics (if electronic monitoring required by NFPA 99) in a room that complies with 2009 IFC Section 3006 (or) gas cabinets that comply with 3006.3. Current edition of NFPA 99 is 2012.

FYILOCATION OF PIPING NFPA 99 Section 5.1.10.10.5 Location of piping shall be located in accordance with 5.1.10.10.5.1 (A) through 5.1.10.10.5.1(C) AND Piping shall be permitted to be installed overhead where possible. Piping shall NOT be installed in electrical switchgear rooms, elevator shafts and areas having open flames. Piping shall NOT be located where subject to contact with oil.
AttentionINSPECTIONS ATTENTION CONTRACTOR Medical Gas system piping installation requires MULTIPLE INSPECTIONS by the CSFD due to installation requirements and procedures. ALL PORTIONS OF PIPING SYSTEMS SHALL REQUIRE INSPECTION; no piping shall be sealed or concealed prior to inspection. Contact the CSFD Office of the Fire Marshal at 385-5978 for an inspection schedule for this project. All paperwork, documentation, installer/verifier certifications, and needed test equipment shall be available upon Inspector's request. Performance Testing is required per 5.1.12. Independent Testing for specific conformance to the requirements of NFPA 99 will be required. Performance testing documentation and inspection is subject to field verification by the Fire Inspector.
AttentionCREDENTIALS AND CERTIFICATIONS American Society of Sanitary Engineers (ASSE) Medical Gas Installer, Medical Gas Verifier and Brazing certification credentials, or documents shall be required prior to commencement of work, and on site and available AT ALL TIMES for inspection by the CSFD. CREDENTIALS SHALL BE CURRENT. Performance Testing is required per 5.1.12. Independent Testing for specific conformance to the requirements of NFPA 99 will be required. Performance testing documentation and inspection is subject to field verification by the Fire Inspector.
AttentionATTENTION: CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE AVAILABLE TO THE INSPECTOR: SPECIFICATIONS, DOCUMENTATION, LISTINGS, VERIFICATION BY 3RD PARTY TESTING. ANY FIELD MODICATIONS SHALL BE DOCUMENTED AND SUBMITTED ON ENGINEER STAMPED AS BUILT PLANS, AND RESUBMITTED TO THE CSFD AND/OR FIRE INSPECTOR.
FYIHAZARDOUS MATERIALS ANNUAL OPERATIONAL PERMIT As of January 2008, the CSFD requires HMMP information to be reported on line in the CSFD HaMish website: http://csfd.springsgov.com/hamish/ Penrose Hospital is in the Hazmat permit program and is in the process of reporting all Hazardous Materials/HMMP data in the HaMish Website. Guidance on the format and required information for the HMMP can be found on the CSFD Web Site http://csfd.springsgov.com/hamish/and in an Information Packet available from the CSFD Office of the Fire Marshal. Please update chemical inventories as required.
FYILabeling - An NFPA 704 compliant Hazard Placard is required for each pedestrian entry door rooms containing hazardous materials in excess of the exempt amounts (this door could be interior or exterior) and all such doors shall be included. The minimum size of the Hazard Placard shall be 15" by 15". This requirement is subject to verification at the time of the Hazardous materials Inspection prior to signing the Fire Final. ** Piping systems shall be marked in accordance with ASME A13.1. ** Markings used for piping systems shall consist of the content's name and include a direction-of-flow arrow. Markings shall be provided at each valve; at wall, floor or ceiling penetrations; at each change of direction; and at a minimum of every 20 feet or fraction thereof throughout the piping run. MEDICAL GAS ROOM LABELING * Signs shall be posted for all harzards and warnings associated with medical gases. NFPA 704 Label all containers and cylinders with contents. * Piping shall be labeled in accordance with IFC 2009, CHAPTER 30 and NFPA 99. LABELING ON BOTH SIDES OF PARTION OR WALLS PENTETRATED BY THE PIPING * AT LEAST ONCE IN EVERY STORY HEIGHT TRAVERSED BY RISERS * Rooms shall be labeled as follows: CAUTION MEDICAL GASES OXIDIZING GAS STORED WITHIN NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAME
