| FYI | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 8) SCOPE OF WORK:
Area/scope of work is -----RETROFIT BACKFLOW-----of the building.
|
| FYI | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 10) WATER SUPPLY/SYSTEM DEMAND INFORMATION:
The Water Flow Calculation show a water supply of having a 150- Static; 20 - Residual; 3800- Flow.
System Demand of 700- gpm (INCLUDES MINIMUM 250 HOSE) at 129- psi is needed at the HYDRANT
All hydraulic designed systems are to have the Hydraulic Placard information sign secured to the sprinkler riser. |
| FYI | (13) FLUSH AND HYDROSTATIC TESTING
Underground flushing and the required 200 psi pressure test of the lead-in piping is to be completed and approved prior to connecting the riser to the underground mains and/or lead-ins. The flushing and pressure test is to be witnessed and approved in writing by a member of the Colorado Springs Fire Dept.
All aboveground piping and attached appurtenances subjected to system working pressure shall be hydrostatically tested at not less than 200 psi and shall maintain that pressure without loss for 2 hours. Note - This is to include the piping between the fire department connection and the check valve. (NFPA 13:10.10.2.2; 24.2.1)
Fire service mains and lead-in connections to system risers shall be completely flushed before connection is made to sprinkler piping. (NFPA 13:10.10.2.1)
|
| FYI | (13) ELECTRICAL SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
The required electrical supervision of all control valves and water-flow switches of this automatic fire sprinkler system is to be provided. An approved central station, remote station or proprietary supervising station as defined by national standards shall monitor this supervision.
PLEASE NOTE - Separate Fire Department approved plans and permits are to be obtained prior to the installation of the required sprinkler system monitoring.
A Knox Box is also required. Contact the CSFD for the information needed to order this key box. |
| FYI | (STANDARD COMMENT 20) LICENSED INSTALLER: An On-Site Installer shall supervise all on-site work on any fire sprinkler project. This On-Site Installer shall have a current Installer Certificate, on his person, while on the job site.
|
| Attention | (STANDARD COMMENT 22) PRESSURE EXCEEDING 100 PSI: System pressure, at the sprinkler heads, is shown to be over 100 psi. Insure the hangers are spaced as required by NFPA 13:9.2.3.4.1.
BRANCH LINES - Distance between the end sprinkler and the last hanger shall be not over 12 inches.
ARMOVERS - lengths of unsupported armover to a sprinkler shall not exceed 12 inches.
These end hangers (both uses) are to prevent upward movement of the pipe. |
| FYI | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 31) BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE: The backflow device shown as being installed is a -6-INCH COLT 200----. It is listed for VERTICAL installation. |
| FYI | (STANDARD COMMENT 35) CERTIFICATE OF INSTALLATION: Attached to the approved plans is a "Certificate of Installation".
It is the installer's responsibility to certify through this form that the system has been properly installed and tested.
The form is to be filled out in its entirety PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRE INSPECTOR conducting the final inspection and/or acceptance test of the system.
FINAL INSPECTIONS WILL NOT BE CONDUCTED WITHOUT THIS FORM BEING COMPLETED.
|
| FYI | (STANDARD COMMENT 36) INSPECTIONS
Minimum 2-business days notice is required to schedule an inspection. Please have your eight digit "Fire Department Plan Review Number" ready when calling to schedule an inspection. |
| FYI | (STANDARD COMMENT) KHJ - SCHEUDLING INSPECTIONS:
STATIONS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 13, 16:
Starting October 3, 2005, Fire Inspectors will be scheduling their own calendars. Your assigned Inspector is Kris Johnson. You may contact him at 719-385-7257 to schedule all construction related inspection activities
|
| FYI | (STANDARD COMMENT 39) ATTENTION: CSFD FEES. All fire department fees are to be paid prior to issuance of any permits. These fees must be paid directly to the Colorado Springs Fire Department - Development Review Enterprise - at 2880 International Circle - Suite 200-7. The Regional Building Department will NOT issue a building permit with out proof the fire department fees have been paid. |
| FYI | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 46) The plans have been resubmitted and all the disapproved comments have been addressed and/or corrected as follows:
1. Is there a standpipe in this building? What is the demand for that? MANUAL DRY - NO CALCULATIONS
2. Calculations show this system is deficient as it stands today. The demand does not fall under the 90% curve. How will it work by adding a backflow? DEMAND WAS MISINTERPRETED BY REVIEWER - SYSTEM IS OK.
3. Water supply graph was not provide for the existing conditions. N/A
4-7. The calculations were misinterpreted by the reviewer. The calcs were run to determine the pressure difference between the two configurations (existing riser and one retrofitted with a BFP), not the final demand point. Calculations are OK.
8. Is appears this is a fire/domestic combined tap - is there a soleniod provided to shut off domestic water on sprinkler activation? If not - the domestic use must be included in the hydraulic calculations. ANNEX OF 2007 NFPA 13 ALLOWS DOMESTIC TAPS OFF 6-IN OR LARGER FIRE LINE AND NOT HAVE TO INCLUDE THE DOMESTIC DEMAND - ACCEPTABLE TO CSFD. |

| FYI | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 6) The fire sprinkler system is being installed by: WSFP
This plan review is based on the requirements found within the 2003 Editions of the International Building Code, International Fire Code, and the 2007 editions of NFPA Standard 13, 13R or 13D as applicable.
CSFD does not allow any combustibles into a building until a sprinkler system has passed it's final acceptance test performed by CSFD Inspector's. |
| Disapproved | *****(STANDARD COMMENT 42) The following information and/or corrections are needed prior to conducting a full plan review. PLEASE RESPOND IN WRITING TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS:
1. Is there a standpipe in this building? What is the demand for that?
2. Calculations show this system is deficient as it stands today. The demand does not fall under the 90% curve. How will it work by adding a backflow?
3. Water supply graph was not provide for the existing conditions.
4. Calculations 4-inch Colt: water supply graph indicates a demand point having a psi of 134? Your calculations do not support this - they show a demand of 139.4 psi - please clarify.
5. Calculations 6-inch Colt: water supply graph indicates a demand point having a psi of 129? Your calculations do not support this - they show a demand of 134.3 psi - please clarify.
6. Calculations 4-inch Maxim: water supply graph indicates a demand point having a psi of 130? Your calculations do not support this - they show a demand of 135.2 psi - please clarify.
7. Do not include calculations, specs and equipment not being installed - this leads to confusion as to what exactly is being chosen for installation.
8. Is appears this is a fire/domestic combined tap - is there a soleniod provided to shut off domestic water on sprinkler activation? If not - the domestic use must be included in the hydraulic calculations.
Also review the disapproved plans for additional written comments prior to submittal of new plans.
