If it is felt that the existing fire hydrants will provide adequate fire flow and will be the correct number of required hydrants, the applicant will need to contact Keta Donegan with COLORADO SPRINGS UTILITIES at (719) 668-8733 or by FAX at (719) 668-5651 to request a theoretical fire flow calculation and fire hydrant location map.
Keta will need the following information to process your request:
1) Gross square footage of the structure (including all floor levels, basements, and attached canopies)
2) Type of construction determined by the Regional Building Department
3) Requesters name
4) Requestors company name
5) Phone and fax numbers of the requestor
6) Project address
7) Project cross streets
8) Public Hydrant numbers of the closest fire hydrants (you can find this number in white lettering on top of the hydrant)

Colorado Springs Fire Department construction reviews are based upon information provided on the drawings and/or the attached reference material. Issues or features that are not presented within the construction documents are assumed to be complaint with applicable codes/standards. It is the responsibility of the building owner to ensure that minimum code requirement are met as established by the Authority Having Jurisdiction, whether of not the requirements are specifically indicated on the submitted construction documents.
The CSFD has reviewed the submittal in accordance with the fire code requirements of the 2003 International Fire Code, CSFD local amendments, City Code Standards, and applicable NFPA Standards. All plan review comments are subject to final on-site field inspections, and testing by the CSFD.

A "2A -10B:C" fire extinguisher is to be installed in LOW TO MODERATE HAZARD OCCUPANCIES at a rate of 1 unit per 3,000 square feet, AND a maximum of a 75-ft travel distance to an extinguisher.
Remember that all extinguishers must be installed in highly visible and accessible locations, never in a dead-end area, and always try to place them near an exit path-way or at an exit(s). Mount 4" off floor to a maximum of 5 ft. to the top of the fire extinguisher. (HINT: About waist high is perfect)
ATTENTION: "FIRE EXTINGUISHER" signs may need to be posted to properly identify where the units are located if they're not highly visible.

A Class "K" portable fire extinguisher is required for kitchens equipped with wet chemical fixed fire suppression systems. They must be installed within 30 ft. of the vent hood in a location/direction leading to an exit.
ATTENTION: Kitchens with existing 40B:C dry chemical extinguishers shall have them replaced with a Class K listed unit when they are due for either a 6-yr. maintenance inspection and/or a hydrostatic test.
Remember that all extinguishers must be installed in highly visible and accessible locations, never in a dead-end area, and always try to place them near an exit path-way or at an exit(s). Mount 4" off floor to a maximum of 5 ft. to the top of the fire ext. (HINT: About waist high is perfect.)
