| FYI | (13) FLUSH AND HYDROSTATIC TESTING
Underground flushing and the required 200 psi pressure test of the lead-in piping is to be completed and approved prior to connecting the riser to the underground mains and/or lead-ins. The flushing and pressure test is to be witnessed and approved in writing by a member of the Colorado Springs Fire Dept.
All aboveground piping and attached appurtenances subjected to system working pressure shall be hydrostatically tested at not less than 200 psi and shall maintain that pressure without loss for 2 hours. Note - This is to include the piping between the fire department connection and the check valve. (NFPA 13:10.10.2.2; 24.2.1)
Fire service mains and lead-in connections to system risers shall be completely flushed before connection is made to sprinkler piping. (NFPA 13:10.10.2.1)

Automatic fire sprinkler coverage may be omitted in MAIN electrical equipment rooms as long as the following conditions apply:
1. The room is dedicated to electrical equipment only
2. Only dry type electrical equipment is used
3. Equipment is installed in a TWO-hour enclosure
4. No combustible storage is permitted to be stored in the room
5. System smoke detection is provided and connected to a monitored fire alarm system
6. A portable fire extinguisher rated not less than 2A:20B:C is provided at the door giving access into the room

As required by NFPA Standard 13, a sprinkler head shall be installed within the bottom of the elevator shaft; the head must be installed no more than 2 feet off the floor. The sprinkler pipe that supplies the head must enter the shaft at the lowest possible point to comply with ASME Standard A17.1a Section 102. Excessive runs of pipe in the shaft will not be permitted by CSFD or RBD. (NFPA 13:8.15.5.1) |

Automatic fire protection is NOT to be installed in elevator machine rooms. The following requirements must be met in lieu sprinkler protection:

B) One-hour occupancy separation

| FYI | (13) ELECTRICAL SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
The required electrical supervision of all control valves and water-flow switches of this automatic fire sprinkler system is to be provided. An approved central station, remote station or proprietary supervising station as defined by national standards shall monitor this supervision.
PLEASE NOTE - Separate Fire Department approved plans and permits are to be obtained prior to the installation of the required sprinkler system monitoring.
A Knox Box is also required. Contact the CSFD for the information needed to order this key box. |

An outside water flow alarm (horn/strobe) is to be installed within 20' of the fire department connection (FDC) to the building sprinkler system in a location that will be highly visible to responding fire crews. This horn/strobe is to activate ONLY on sprinkler water flow, not on general building alarms. (IFC 903.4.2.1) |
| FYI | (13) STOCK OF SPARE SPRINKLERS:
A spare sprinkler head box is to be provided. The box shall contain not less than 6 extra sprinkler heads of the type installed within the system. Refer to NFPA 25 for specific information on how many of each type of head must be provided. It shall also contain the sprinkler wrenches need to replace the heads. (NFPA 13: 6.2.9)
NEW 2007 REQUIREMENT: A list of the sprinkler installed in the property shall be posed in the sprinkler cabinet. The list shall include the following information:
a) Sprinkler ID Number
b) General description of the sprinkler
c) Quanitity of each type of sprinkler contained in the cabinet
d) Issue or revision date of the list. |

NFPA 13 requires that "All concealed spaces enclosed wholly or partially by exposed combustible construction shall be protected by sprinklers". There are 12 specific allowances to this section that allow for the omission of sprinklers. If there are combustible concealed areas found during the installation of the system that do not meet the requirements of the 12 allowances, then these areas will be required to be sprinkled. (NFPA 13:8.15.1)

If this means that finished ceilings will need to be removed, this will be required to be done!
