10/23/2009 Disapproved*****(STANDARD COMMENT 19) The following information and/or corrections are needed prior to completing a full plan review. Please respond, in writing, to each of the following comments: 1) The smoke control system using the exhaust method needs to comply with the 2003 IFC section 909.8 and the 2009 NFPA 92B Chapter 8. Provide detailed information for acceptance test procedures to be conducted at time of final. CSFD requires an actual smoke evacuation test with smoke. Provide copies of the models completed with FIRESIMULATOR for this facility. 2) Atriums connecting more than two stories in Group A occupancies shall be provided with an emergency voice/alarm communication system complying with Section 907.2.12.2. (2003 IFC section 907.2.13) CSFD will enforce this requirement. Contractor can appeal for a variance with the Fire Board of Appeals. 3) A fire-fighter's smoke control panel is to be provided in accordance with 2003 IFC section 909.16. Provide an approved smoke control panel and detailed sequence of operation. CSFD will enforce this requirement. Please refer to 2003 IFC section 909.1, Scope and Purpose. Contractor can appeal for a variance with the Fire Board of Appeals. 4) 2003 IFC section 909.16 requires a fire command center per 2003 IFC section 509. The main FACP is currently shown in the 2nd floor electric room adjacent to the atrium. This appears unacceptable. Relocate fire command center to a safer location. CSFD will enforce this requirement. Contractor can appeal for a variance with the Fire Board of Appeals. 5) The smoke detector at the top of the atrium needs to comply with NFPA 72 annex B. Provide detailed analysis for smoke detector. 6) The engineering report for the smoke management system indicates the planters in Lounge 166 will be a minimum of 30 inches wide.
