This house is representative of the Craftsman style dwellings popular in the United Stated during the early 20th century. Constructed in 1922, it was the longtime home of Ferdinand and Thusmelda Gutmann, proprietors of the pharmacy in the Everhart Building, at the corner of Tejon and Bijou Streets.
Architectural features reflecting its style include the gabled roof with widely overhanging eaves, triangular knee braces and exposed rafters, the gabled front dormer, the multi-/single-light double-hung sash windows, the combination of building materials, the stone chimney with tapered shoulders, and the full width porch with arched spandrels, battered stone piers and solid balustrade. Locally significant.
