This building displays an exotic mixture of Russian and American motifs, reflecting the background of its developer, Benjamin Lefkowsky. A Russian émigré who left his country prior to the Russian Revolution, Lefkowsky developed the land west of the Hagerman mansion at 610 North Cascade Avenue into a single-family neighborhood.
The Russ-Amer Apartments were constructed over a number of years as luxury dwellings, finishing in 1839. Designed by Charles Thomas, the local architect associated with the City Auditorium at 231 East Kiowa Street, several structures in Monument Valley Park, and Shepard's Citations at 420 North Cascade Avenue, it is principally composed of brick with sandstone trim. National Register eligible.
