This building is representative of the large-scale Queen Anne style dwellings erected in Colorado Sprigs during the late 19th century. Representative of the Free Classic subtype of the style, with its representative pedimented gables and porch with paired classical columns atop pedestals, the structure is further distinguished by the asymmetrical composition, multiple gables, conical roof tower and dormers, shingles and lap siding.
The first owner appears to have been Mary Giddings, wife of L. A. Giddings, who along with his brother Ralph operated the Giddings Brothers and Co. dry goods store at 101 North Tejon Street. The residence was sold in 1901 in 1900 to Edwin R. and Belle H. Stark; Mr. Stark was vice president and treasurer of the Raven Mining Company. By 1909-10, it had become a boarding house, and was an apartment building by 1960. Locally significant.
