Sworn Employment
The Department accepts applications for employment as a police officer continuously. For the most recent information on available examination dates and hiring, please see our Employment News page. |
|
Applicants will be required to follow these steps to register for an examination and be considered for employment:
Step One: Read the Minimum Qualifications for the two types of police recruit positions that are open. If you meet the minimum qualifications for one of the open positions, go to the Applicant Registration Center.
Step Two: Complete the Test Registration Form on line at the Applicant Registration Center.
Step Three: After completing the Test Registration Form, complete the Personal History Statement.
Step Four: Complete the appropriate Colorado Springs Police Department Employment Application. The Employment Application is available to applicants after they complete the test registration form. A new application and Personal History Statement must be submitted each time you apply.
We are not able to receive completed employment applications or Personal History Statements electronically. Completed applications and Personal History Statements must be dropped off at the Police Operations Center at 705 South Nevada Avenue or mailed to:
Colorado Springs Police Department Attn: Pat Blakeley, Human Resources, MC 1565 705 South Nevada Avenue Colorado Springs, CO 80903
Step Five: Submit an official transcript or transcripts documenting that you have completed 60 or more semester hours from an accredited university or college. Candidates that do not meet educational minimums upon application must submit a statement from their school confirming that they are currently enrolled in a course of study that will allow the candidate to meet minimum qualifications upon date of hire.
Step Six: After your application packet has been received, it will be marked complete in the Registration Center. You will not be able to select a test date until you have completed a verification review process and a job suitability assessment. This initial review process may take up to six weeks. During this initial review, no contact will be made with previous employers, friends, or family members.
When your application has been marked in the Registration center as Eligible to Continue: TRUE, you will then be able to select a test date. Out of state applicants will need to be in Colorado Springs for two consecutive days of testing. If no test dates are available, check again later. Additional test dates are posted periodically. Orientation Sessions will be conducted monthly by our Recruiting Officer prior to testing dates; check the website for upcoming sessions and RSVP if you wish to attend.
Step Seven: Notify us in advance if you are unable to take the test on the date that you selected. If you do not notify us at least 24 hours in advance to cancel an appointment, we may not reschedule you to test at a later date. Please note that you cannot reschedule yourself for another test date after selecting a test date. You must contact us to be rescheduled.
Step Eight: After you have completed the testing components, you will be placed on an employment list. Depending on how well you do on the testing, you might receive a conditional offer, which will then be followed by an intensive background investigation, polygraph, interview with the staff psychologist, and a meeting with a background investigator. Out of state applicants will need to be available for a two day visit to Colorado Springs, and will also undergo a medical exam.
