City of Colorado Springs / City Engineering / HES Projects / Dublin and Academy Intersection Improvements

Dublin and Academy Intersection Improvements

Project Description: The Dubin Boulevard and Academy Boulevard intersection configuration doesn't meet current design standards and has been a high accident location. In 2004, the City applied for and received a competitive, federally-funded Hazard Elimination and Safety grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation. The project design and right-of-way purchases are complete.

Benefits of the finished project will include improved safety for vehicles and pedestrians, better traffic flow, and reduced congestion.

 Improvements:

  • Provide north and south dual left turns
  • Provide corner radius improvements on the southwest, southeast, and northeast corners of the intersection
  • New traffic signals
  • Sidewalk and pedestrian ramp upgrades
  • Provide a safer right-in/right-out driveway accesses for businesses on the southwest corner

Total estimated project cost: $675,000 paid by Hazard Elimination and Safety grant funds.
Estimated project schedule: Construction began in May 2009.
