StormReady Community

On April 26th, 2005, the City of Colorado Springs was recognized by City Council as a StormReady community. StormReady is a nationwide community preparedness program that uses a grassroots approach to help communities develop plans to handle all types of severe weather. The program encourages communities to take a proactive approach to improving local hazardous weather operations by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines established by the National Weather Service on how to improve their hazardous weather operations. StormReady communities are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through better planning, education and awareness. For more information on this program, please visit

An important step you can take to prepare yourself and your family for natural disasters is to purchase a NOAA weather radio. These radios can be purchased at a variety of retail outlets or online for around $30, and will provide you with the latest forecasts and weather information 24 hours a day.
