Snow Removal

City Snow Response

The City Street Division is responsible for the maintenance of 7,431 lane miles of road within the City limits. There are 45 snow routes that cover 1,780 lane miles of primary and secondary thoroughfares, for which the City has developed 2 levels of response and 5 action plans to ensure mobility during a storm. Primary routes are multi-lane roads with large volumes of traffic or hospital access. Secondary routes include collector streets and school access. The Street Division does not respond to residential streets unless there is at least 6" of snow and primary and secondary routes are plowed.  Then the Street Division will dispatch snow plow drivers to clear a single lane on residential streets, as necessary and based upon storm severity, accumulation and accessibility.
