School Zone Speed Enforcement

Friday, August 6, 2010 1:15 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]:

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) would like to remind drivers that area schools will soon be starting the fall session. School zone traffic signals and lowered speed limits will become effective as the various school districts resume activity. Every year the police department is inundated with calls about drivers speeding through the school zones at the beginning of the school year. In addition to the patrol officers assigned to the area, the police department will have motorcycle officers working school zone enforcement throughout the city.
Additionally, in response to an overwhelming public concern about the speed of traffic in the city, CSPD will also be assigning motorcycle officers to speed enforcement deployments at roving locations across the city. The ultimate goal of this increased effort is to encourage drivers to voluntarily comply with the posted speed limits, creating a safe environment for all. For those who choose to drive aggressively, you are reminded the fines are doubled in school or construction zones and violations in these areas require a mandatory court appearance.
Please remember to wear your seatbelt and drive safely.
