Judge Kane II

Presiding Judge/Acting Court Administrator Kane is a native of Colorado Springs, graduating from Cheyenne Mountain High School.  He attended the University of Colorado where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  He also attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he obtained his Juris Doctor.  After nine years in private practice, he was appointed by Mayor Mary Lou Makepeace as an Associate Municipal Court Judge in 2001.  Judge Kane was appointed as Presiding Judge of Colorado Springs Municipal Court by Mayor Lionel Rivera in 2007.  In 2014, Judge Kane left private practice to assume the duties of the Colorado Springs Municipal Court Administrator in addition to his Associate Judge and Presiding Judge duties.

Judge Kane has been a member of the El Paso County Bar Association since 1992, where he has served as a representative to the Colorado State Board of Governors in 2009 and President of the Bar Association in 2012.  He has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association since 2008, where he will serve as Executive Vice President as of July of 2014.  Judge Kane has been a member of the Colorado Municipal Judges Association since 2001, and has recently been elected to the CMJA Board of Directors.  Judge Kane is a member of the Colorado Springs Leadership Institute.

Judge Kane has been involved in Colorado Springs Teen Court, a restorative justice program, since its inception in 1994.  He has been a member of the Teen Court Board of Directors since 2004 and has served as both Vice President and President.  In 2008, he received the Colorado Springs Teen Court Founders Award, “In Grateful Appreciation of Your Tireless Efforts and Lasting Contributions”.

Judge Kane participates annually as a volunteer in the El Paso County High School mock trial competition and in the El Paso County Bar Association’s Ask-A-Lawyer program.  Until his recent departure from private practice, he participated in the Colorado Supreme Court’s Pro Bono Achievement Program and was a member of Ecumenical Christian Legal Services, working with Ecumenical Social Ministries to provide legal assistance to the underprivileged.

 Judge Kane has been married to his wife, Catherine, since 2011.  They enjoy everything the Colorado outdoors has to offer.  He also plays ice hockey twice a week.
