American Artist, Marie Baehr, expresses her extraordinary life through brilliant hues of mixed media.
Her work is a fusion of color, texture, and relief that explores the abstract expression of human emotion. Uplifting and light-hearted in nature, she expresses her colorful life with powerful, broad strokes of multi-layered vibrant color.
Collectors and those who reflect upon Marie's work find her art glowing with light, excitement, and depth.
Earthy, progressive, and balanced in composition, Marie's work is technical and exacting in nature. She defines her style as Abstract Expressionism?each piece an emotional response to a life experience punctuated with color and multiple facets of depth and texture. Her works embrace a full range of mixed media: acrylic paint and inks, hand painted papers, and found objects on canvas or board.
"I want my art to speak profoundly, but not always say the same thing to everyone," explains Marie. "I think the beauty of art, in any medium, is its ability to communicate multiple ideas and emotions without words based on the observer?s perspective."
Marie's work has been exhibited and collected throughout the United States. She continues to expand her pallet?and her experiences?through study and extensive travel throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. Each adventure adds to the color of her life!

I have always had a special interest in photography. I remember when I was young I would look out the window and see "pretty pictures"; snapshots or frames that would make interesting photographs in my mind.
In high school I was introduced to the world of Black and White film photography and my interest exploded. I spent hours in the darkroom each day, developing prints on a regular basis.
After high school I began exploring the world of digital photography while still developing film. Over time the digital age grew on me, and I now shoot in both film and digital.
Throughout college and post graduation I have had the opportunity to travel the world and have been able to bring my camera along the way.

Art has always been a great passion for me. I began enjoying it by watching my Dad constantly photographing things when I was growing up. From him I found my love for the "Classic Car," which has now become one of my favorite subject matters! When I began studying photography I always thought I wanted to do documentary work and to be traveling around the world photographing phenomenal events... I then started my business in 2003 and started focusing more on Fine Art, Children and the amazing people and things that touch all of our lives. My goal with my photography is to capture the essence of my subjects..... We each have a story and our own unique personality and it is my job to capture those moments so that you can hold on to them forever!!!

My current series of painting, which I?m calling Contemporary
Western Expressionism, is based on my love of the west. In particular, my memories of growing up with horses and having a Dad who exposed me to the great outdoors through a love of the land, the wide open skies and what it truly meant to slow down and appreciate the beauty of nature.
In these paintings, my subject matter is primarily animals of the west, done in bold abstract brush strokes and bright colors. I also have a series based on lone adobe churches set against barren backdrops. I love to drive the back roads of the west and the southwest and these churches symbolize solitude, peace and reverence to me.

I believe I was born to be an artist.
I have been painting professionally for 3 years and I constantly hone my skills through workshops and classes with local and internationally known artists.
Currently my focus has been on watercolor but I have also worked in acrylic, oil and wood. I am fortunate to live in Colorado and find a great source of inspiration in my surroundings and throughout the west.

Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group?s Creative Program provides instruction, materials and a supportive environment for disabled and disadvantaged individuals to engage in artistic expression, be it through drawing, painting, poetry, jewelry making or music. The program helps individuals with their recovery process by stimulating catharsis and revealing unconscious thoughts. Artwork from the program is displayed throughout the community and auctioned at events to raise awareness and quash the stigma of mental illness.

Raised in the Kentucky countryside, Roake developed a love for the outdoors early in life. Currently living in Colorado, she demonstrates this love through her art. Working in oil, she produces both plein air and studio works.
Art never became a part of her formal education until after college graduation. With the encouragement of early instructors to take her art more seriously, she began her journey as a professional artist.
Artist's Statement:
It is such a privilege to see and experience God's creation first hand. The wonder and awe I feel when painting on location is never lost on me. As a plein air artist it is my desire to share the fact that a loving God created this beauty for us to enjoy. If in some way others are blessed through my painting, then I have succeeded as an artist.

I have an interest in photographing inanimate objects that speak with shape, line, depth, composition and perception. As a personal motto and artistic goal, I continually search for opportunities to photograph and present photographic material that will ?Change the way you look at things?. The photographs displayed for the ?Perspective? show are images captured of the intricate details of the metal sculpture by Jeff Erwine (www.jefferwine.com). With the help of Jeff as my lighting grip, I captured these images using only ambient light, accompanied with ordinary fluorescent construction lights and scrap aluminum sheeting as a light reflector. I examined each of Jeff's magnificent sculptures to find details that others may not ordinarily appreciate, and intricacies from angles and perspectives that most would not notice. After capturing the images, I decided to add dramatic pop-art color to some, transforming others to black and white, while leaving others just the way I saw them through the view finder of my camera. I flipped, rotated and cropped the images and watched as they morphed into shapes, and compositions that took lives of their own, forcing me to change the way I looked at each of Jeff?s sculptures.

For several years five newspapers would print her column. ?A Gift of Guidance.? Glenda's weekly contribution provided much needed insight, into
people?s problems. On the artistic side, a large Gallery in Westcliffe displayed over 100 pieces of her art work, which included sculptures, and paintings, for the month of March 2009. Her notoriety has grown nationwide, having displayed her work in Colorado Springs, Breckenridge, Vale and Aspen.

All Glen?s animal paintings are enhanced with a genuine one point brilliant diamond. "It's my unique gift of thanks to the buyers of my artwork. There?s no finer way to show my appreciation." She says. Four paintings are now on permanent display in the Hotel Armastad in Costa Rica.
Glenda and her husband own and operate a thriving alpaca ranch in the mountains of Colorado. John spins and knits their fibre which he transforms into beautiful wearable art. Glenda is happily painting her beloved animals, either in acrylic on feathers from their peacocks, or watercolours.
