Visitor Center Volunteers

By volunteering at the Garden of the Gods, Starsmore Discovery Center, Helen Hunt Falls or Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site you can meet people from all over the world and from your own community. The department has four locations that utilize volunteers to help with many fun activities!

2.1 million people a year visit the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at beautiful Garden of the Gods Park. Adult volunteers assist staff with greeting guests, providing visitor information and introducing and facilitating presentations. Guiding nature walks is optional.

In North Cheyenne Cañon Park, there are two free nature centers offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the park. Starsmore Discovery Center utilizes adult volunteers for assisting with information desk, gardening, computer input, explaining interactive exhibits, guiding hikes and working with children's programs. School programs are offered in the Spring and Fall to area schools. Volunteers are needed during school hours to work with these groups. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the special events including the annual Hummingbird Festival at Starsmore Discovery Center in May. For more information, please contact Starsmore at (719) 385-6086.

Helen Hunt Falls is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and serves as an information center, as well as a bookstore. Volunteers greet and orient visitors to the surrounding nature experiences.  Interested? Please call (719) 633-5701.

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is a working ranch that shows visitors life as it was in a 1750s American Indian Encampment and the frontier life of the 1860s, 1870s and 1880s. Volunteers bring history to life by dressing in period clothing and performing tasks in a Ute Tipi, at an 1860s homestead cabin, 1880s working ranch, 1900s family estate, or the General Store. Youth/teen volunteer program for ages 10-16. Annual spring training is required. Sewing help is also needed with the period clothing library, or, if you prefer, a person is needed to help answer the phone in the office.
