Cottonwood Creek Stabilization - Downstream from La Madrina
Current Status: City Engineering and Colorado Springs Utilities and have entered into a partnership for this project. Colorado Springs Utilities prepared the construction plans and will oversee the construction for this project. The project went out to bid on October 11, 2013. Bids will be opened on November 1st, 2013. The construction work will likely begin in early 2014 and will be completed by June of 2014.
Background: This reach of natural channel has experienced significant bed degradation and bank sloughing over the years. Improvements upstream of the project reach include grade control structures and channel side slope revetment. In order to preserve these upstream facilities and to protect critical wastewater utility lines owned by Colorado Springs Utilities, downstream improvements have been deemed necessary. The proposed improvements include three grade control structures and side slope revetment. The proposed work is the first phase in a two part improvement scope. This project is within a portion of the reach identified in the 2013 Stormwater Needs Assessment by CH2MHill which has been classified as being “High Priority”.
