City Attorney's Office - HR (Employment) Division

Employment Division Mission

The HR Division of the City Attorney’s Office represents the City and its enterprises in employment law matters. The HR Division provides legal advice and training to City and enterprise management, including Colorado Springs Utilities, in all matters relating to employment law including employee discipline, employee policies and procedures, discrimination laws, and other laws impacting employees. The HR Division also represents the City and its enterprises in federal and state court litigation and in administrative proceedings relating to employment law matters.

Tracy Lessig

Additional Information: Ms. Lessig graduated with the distinction of Order of St. Ives from the University of Denver College of Law in 1996. She was a member of the Denver University Law Review. Ms. Lessig began her legal career with Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons. She joined the City Attorney’s Office in 1998. Since joining the Office, she has practiced in the areas of prosecution, workers compensation and employment law. Ms. Lessig has specialized in employment law since 2005. She successfully defended the City in the published decision of Leverington v. City of Colorado Springs, 643 F.3d 719 (10th Cir. 2011).

Jamie V. Smith, Attorney

Additional Information: In addition to her law degree, Jamie was a Former Assistant District Attorney for the 21stJudicial District of Colorado. She is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Oklahoma and is a member of Luther Bohanan American Inn of Court, El Paso County Bar Association Member, and a Colorado Springs Teen Court volunteer and liaison.
