A retired Naval Flight Officer Andres “Andy” Pico completed 21 years of active duty with almost 2,000 hours in the E-2 Hawkeye and 600 hours in the E-4B National Emergency Airborne Command Post.

His at sea service included tours in two, fleet E-2 squadrons including overseas residence in Yokosuka, Japan. He also served in the E-2 training squadron as an NFO Flight Instructor. Two years on the 6thFleet Staff with overseas residence in Gaeta, Italy, and operations throughout the Mediterranean finished up over seven years at sea.

His shore time included tours in Omaha on the Joint Staff, Newport, R.I., and concluded in the NORAD Command Center in Cheyenne Mountain which included Operation Desert Storm.

For his service to his country, Andy received the National Defense Service Medal (twice), the Joint Meritorious Service Medal (twice) and the Meritorious Service Medal. He also was awarded the Air Force Combat Readiness Medal and Squadron Naval Flight Officer of the Year.

After retiring from the Navy, Andy worked as a defense contractor for more than 16 years supporting Air Force Space Command, U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, U.S. Northern Command and NORAD. Combining both active duty and contractor time, Andy spent over 15 years in NORAD Operations.

Now “semi-retired,” Andy keeps active in the community and local politics. He is a founding member of the Coalition for a Conservative Majority - Colorado Springs, and has held leadership roles in service organizations that support veterans and children with special needs, and has served various charitable organizations, his Parish and the Diocese of Colorado Springs.

Andy received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and master’s degrees from Salve Regina University and Naval War College, College of Naval Command and Staff.

He and his wife, Janice, have been married for more than 36 years. They have nine children and nine grandchildren.

Andy enjoys hiking and rifle shooting.
