Testing Information
The 16PF
The 16PF is a job suitability test. This test assesses normal personalities that are used in multiple settings.
There is no study guide for this test.
In order to be considered for the July 2013 Academy, your 16 PF must be completed and your PHQ turned in by January 15, 2013 (for in-state candidates only). Registration for the 16PF Exam will close on January 9, 2013. There are multiple testing dates available and space is limited. When you are eligible to test you will receive an email with instructions on how to self register for this exam. The January 15th 16PF Exam will be the last opportunity to take this exam.
Physical Abilities Test (PAT) Information
The Colorado Springs Police Department's Physical Abilities Test (PAT) is comprised of four components: Sit Ups, Push Ups, The Illinois Agility Run and the Beep Test. Each candidate shall meet the minimum score of twenty (20) to pass the physical agility portion of the testing process and advance to the written examination. PAT scoring is based off a compensatory scale allowing candidates who score lower in one component to still successfully complete the test. However, a minimum score of one (1) must be obtained in each component of the test or the participant will automatically be eliminated from the testing process.
Pushups and sit ups are timed for one minute. The Illinois Agility Run times are listed below in the table.
The Beep Test is measured in trips completed. (each trip is counted)

Written Test
Written test will be a 2.5 hour multiple choice test, consisting of a cognitive and an integrity component.
Each section is scored separately and applicants must pass each section to receive a passing score.
- Cognitive Portion - Minimum Score of 65%
- Integrity Portion – Minimum Score of 75%
Once applicants select their written test date, they will receive information on how to obtain a study guide.
Testing will begin mid-January and conclude at the end of February. Those eligible to test will receive an email with their testing schedule.
Oral Board
Panel Members will consist of CSPD Sworn Officers. Applicants will be asked questions and assessed an overall score on their response. You must successfully pass the PAT and written exam to be eligible for the oral board. You will be scheduled for your oral board immediately upon successful completion of the written test.
- Written test scores and oral board scores will be combined to determine banding.
Please note: Testing will be conducted on the weekends with the PAT and Written Test on Saturday and the Oral Boards on Sunday.
