Project Status and Schedule

In October 2009 the City of Colorado Springs released a request for proposals to complete the Academy Boulevard Corridor Transportation Analysis and Transit Readiness Plan.  The City reviewed proposals, conducted interviews with potential consultants and in November 2009, selected the CH2MHill team to conduct the work effort.

The 12-month project involves a two-part planning effort to support revitalization of the 6-mile segment of Academy Boulevard between Maizeland Road on the north and Drennan Road on the south. Elements of the project include development of a Multimodal Transportation and Transit Readiness Plan and a Land Use Vision Plan. Together, these documents will:

·         model future development possibilities

·         identify a land use vision for the corridor

·         recommend a future functional classification and access guidance for the roadway

·         recommend future corridor cross sections

·         evaluate transit options

·         recommend implementation priorities and steps

The project kick-off meeting and chartering session was held March 2010 marking the first big push to complete the work effort for the project.  (Click here to view charter meeting minutes.)  Since the kick-off meeting the team has completed an evaluation of existing conditions and has initiated discussions about how land use and transportation along the corridor can be used to promote its revitalization.
